  • Aluminum (Al) and copper(Cu) are non-ferrous alloys with excellent electrical and thermal conductivity but have relatively lower mechanical properties than iron alloys. Stainless steel(STS), an iron alloy, is a high-strength industrial material due to its excellent mechanical properties and corrosion resistance compared to non-ferrous Al and Cu. In this research combined Al, Cu, and STS to fabricate as a functionally graded material (FGM) through a powder metallurgical process. The produced FGM exhibited lightweight and excellent surface hardness compared to copper and iron alloys and also showed higher thermal conductivity than single Al and STS materials.

  • The effects of aging treatment sequence, specifically pre-aging and post-aging, on the microstructure and mechanical properties of Al-Zn-Mg-Cu aluminum alloys has been studied in comparison to symmetrically rolled specimens. In symmetrically rolled specimens, a straight-band precipitation distribution was observed, whereas asymmetrically rolled specimens exhibited a curved-band microstructure of fine precipitates. Notably, the asymmetrically rolled specimens displayed higher strengths. In the case of post-aging, the aging process occurred after rolling, and the dislocations generated during rolling acted as nucleation sites for precipitates during aging. This resulted in the formation of fine precipitates, contributing to improved mechanical properties compared to symmetric rolling. To enhance strength of the Al-Zn-Mg-Cu aluminum alloys, asymmetric rolling proves to be more effective than symmetric rolling, with post-aging showing greater efficacy than pre-aging.

  • Color characteristics of the Cu-Sn alloys (bronze) in as-cast conditions were determined by reference to the $L^*$, $a^*$, $b^*$ color space. Results show that the values of $a^*$ and $b^*$ decrease with the increase in Sn levels, indicating that the colors of bronze alloys are increasingly away from red and yellow with the increase in the fraction of the ${\delta}$ phase while the opposite is true with the ${\alpha}$ phase. It has also been found in similar experiments with the Cu-22% Sn alloys that heat treatments in varying conditions produce subtle differences in their color characteristics as observed in the $L^*$, $a^*$, $b^*$ color space, due likely to the formation of various phases in different fractions.

  • Transformation behavior and superelastic behavior of Ti-Ni-Cu alloys with various Cu content has been investigated by means of electrical resistivity measurement, X-ray diffraction, tensile test and transmission electron microscopy. Two types of heat treatment are given to the specimens: i) Solutions treatment. ii) thermo-mechanical treatment. The transformation sequence in solution treated Ti-Ni-Cu Alloys substituted by Cu for Ni up to 5at.% occurs to $B2{\rightleftarrows}B19^{\prime}$ and it proceeds in two stages by addition of 10at.%Cu, i. e, $B2{\rightleftarrows}B19{\rightleftarrows}B19^{\prime}$. Also, it has been found that Ti-30Ni-20Cu alloy transformed in one stage : $B2{\rightleftarrows}B19$. The thermo-mechanically treated Ti-47Ni-3Cu alloy transformed in two stages: B2${\rightleftarrows}$rhomboheral phase${\rightleftarrows}B19^{\prime}$, while transformation sequence in Ti-45Ni-5Cu and Ti-40Ni-10Cu alloy transformed as same as solution treated specimens. The critical stress for inducing slip deformation in solution treated and thermo-mechanically treated Ti-40Ni-10Cu alloy is about 90MPa and 320Mpa respectively.

  • Nonferrous metals have a very important position in industry. At present, parts of shipbuilding, automobile, and aircraft etc. are designed and manufactured accurately, simultaneity need light-weight and high-strength. Aluminum copper alloys are one kind of typical precipitation hardening alloy which has been widely used. It is interesting to investigate transformation behavior of precipitated phase in such kind of alloys under high magnetic field. Transformation of materials under high magnetic field is many different compared with conventional condition. The author prepared the Al-4%Cu alloy.

  • Shape memory recoverable stress and strain of Ti-42.5at%Ni-10at%Cu alloys were measured by means of constant temperature tensile tests. The alloys' transformation behavior is B2 - B19 by DSC result. The strain by tensile stress were perfectly recovered by heating at any testing conditions but shape memory recoverable stress increased to 66MPa and then slightly decreased. Transformation temperatures from thermal cycling under constant uniaxial applied tensile loads linearly increased by increasing tensile load and their thermal hysteresis are about 110K and their maximum recoverable strain is 6.5% at 100MPa condition.

  • The strategy of recovering metals from scrap is in general much different from primary sources. One of the main differences between the treatment of scrap and that of primary sources lies with the fact that metals are frequently associated with other met-als to form alloys in scrap, while metals occur in primary sources as oxides or sulfides. In this paper, factors affecting the dis-solution behavior of metals from various alloy systems have been reviewed and discussed. Specific examples have been drawn from Au/Ag, Au/cu and Ag/cu systems. Results of the dissolution behavior of various metals from these alloys have been reviewed and compared to the dissolution behavior of single metal systems in various lixiviants such as acids, cyanide and ammonia. It has been observed that the presence of other metals in alloys would significantly affect the dissolution rate of the metal in question. The leaching behavior of metals from homogeneous alloys relies on the chemical interaction between atoms in the lattice of the alloys, while that from heterogeneous alloys is affected by galvanic interaction established in the solution The manner in which the dissolution of a certain metal is influenced by surrounding metals has been discussed in terms of pas-sive and noble nature of the metal in relation to the neighboring metals. The role of the standard electrochemical Potential of these metals on the selective dissolution for a given lixiviant has also been discussed.

  • Ceramic oxide layers successfully were formed on the surface of cast Al alloys with high Si contents using plasma electrolytic oxidation (PEO) process in electrolytes containing Na2SiO3, NaOH, and additives. The microstructure of the oxide layers was systematically analyzed using scanning electron microscopy (SEM), cross-sectional transmission electron microscopy (TEM), X-ray diffraction patterns (XRD), and energy X-ray dispersive spectroscopy (EDS). XRD analysis indicated that the PEO untreated high-silicon Al alloys (i.e., 17.1 and 11.7 wt.% Si) consist of Al, Si and Al2Cu phases whereas Al2Cu phase selectively disappeared after PEO treatment. PEO process yielded an amorphous oxide layer with few second phases including γ-Al2O3 and Fe-rich phases. The corrosion behaviors of high-silicon Al alloys treated by PEO process were investigated using electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) and other electrochemical techniques (i.e., open circuit potential and polarization curve). Electroanalytical studies indicated that high-silicon Al alloys treated by PEO process have greater corrosion resistance than high-silicon alloys untreated by PEO process.

  • Magnetic properties of $Nd_{x}{(Fe_{0.9}Co_{0.1})}_{90-x}B_{6}Nb_{3}Cu_{1}(x=\;3,\;4,\;5)$ rrelt-spun alloys with 6 at% B content were studied aiming for finding out a new $\alpha$-Fe based Nd-Fe-B nanocrystalline alloy with good hard magnetic properties. $Nd_{x}{(Fe_{0.9}Co_{0.1})}_{90-x}B_{6}Nb_{3}Cu_{1}$ melt-spun alloys prepared by RSP crystallized to nanocrystalline phase. An optimally annealed $Nd_{3}{(Fe_{0.9}Co_{0.1})}_{87}B_{6}Nb_{3}Cu_{1}$ melt-spun alloys had larger volume ratio of $\alpha$-Fe(Co) than that of higher Nd content alloy and showed high remanence of about 1.6 T. On the contrary, the increase of Nd content in $Nd_{x}{(Fe_{0.9}Co_{0.1})}_{90-x}B_{6}Nb_{3}Cu_{1}$ alloys gave rise to gradual increase of an amount of $Nd_{2}{(Fe,\;Co)}_{14}B$ phase and improved coercivity. An optimally annealed $Nd_{5}{(Fe_{0.9}Co_{0.1})}_{85}B_{6}Nb_{3}Cu_{1}$ alloy showed the most improved hard mag¬netic properties. The remanence, coercivityand energy product of the alloy were 1.35 T, 219 kA/m (2.75 kOe), and $129\;kJ/m^{3}$ (16.2 MGOe), respectively.

  • In the present study, microstructural evolution in CuCrFeNi, CuCrFeNiMn, and CuCrFeNiMnAl alloys has been investigated. The as-cast CuCrFeNi alloy consists of a single fcc phase with the lattice parameter of 0.358 nm, while the as-cast CuCrFeNiMn alloy consists of (bcc+fcc1+fcc2) phases with lattice parameters of 0.287 nm, 0.366 nm, and 0.361 nm. The heat treatment of the cast CuCrFeNiMn alloy results in the different type of microstructure depending on the heat treatment temperature. At $900^{\circ}C$ a new thermodynamically stable phase appears instead of the bcc solid solution phase, while at $1,000^{\circ}C$, the heat treated microstructure is almost same as that in the as-cast state. The addition of Al in CuCrFeNiMn alloy changes the constituent phases from (fcc1+fcc2+bcc) to (bcc1+bcc2).
