  • The objective of this article is to explore the economic relationship between China and the surrounding dynamic Asian economies. It delves into China's influence over the Asian economies and whether this relationship is a market-led or de facto symbiosis. The three principal channels of regional integration analyzed in this article are trade, FDI and vertically integrated production networks. They are essentially based on the activities of the private-sector in these economies. China methodically expanded and deepened its economic ties with the regional neighbors. At the present juncture, China's integration with the surrounding Asia is deep. Another issue that this article explores is the so-called China "threat" or "fear" in Asia. It implies that China is crowding out exports of the other Asian economies in the world market place. Also, as China has become the most attractive FDI destination among the developing countries, it is apprehended that China is receiving FDI at the expense of the Asian economies. These concerns were examined by several empirical studies, and the inference is that they are exaggerated. This article concludes that the private-sector business activities in China and other rapidly growing Asian economies were (and are) instrumental in bringing together the production structures and real economies. The result is both convergence and integration among the dynamic Asian economies. Over the years China and its Asian neighbors has developed a close and symbiotic economic relationship and a de facto regional integration.

  • This paper investigates how firm age, size and ownership are related with job creation and destruction, and how these patterns differ across transition and non-transition economies. The analysis finds that age is inversely related with gross job creation and net job creation in the two samples. This finding is consistent with the theory of the learning effect. The relationship between age and job destruction is indifferent in non-transition economies. On the contrary, old firms in transition economies destroy more jobs than young ones. The paper further establishes an inverse relationship between size and gross job creation in the two groups. However, there is divergence between the two samples; small firms in non-transition economies also exhibit a higher gross job destruction rate. Consequently large firms have a higher net job creation rate. In transition economies, small and large firms exhibit similar rates of job destruction. But small firms retain a higher net job creation rate. A more intriguing finding is that state owned firms do not underperform domestic private ones. This means these countries may be using soft budget constraint which allows state owned firms to overstaff. Finally, crowding out of SMEs by foreign owned firms is not evident in transition economies.

  • Many companies open multiple projects simultaneously due to market trends, which results in a crowding out effect because of limited resources. R&D engineers become overloaded and scheduling of product development is delayed resulting in timing misses and lost sales leads. The company in this case study (Company A), often opens up many projects simultaneously in order to respond to market needs quickly. The engineers are overloaded and, of course, the schedule is delayed. In order to identify problems, Company A began using Dr. Goldratt's Thinking Processes (TP) during new product development (NPD). When the analysis phase of TP was completed, Company A's core problem was identified as "the quantity of kick-off projects." Consequently, new rules and conditions and procedures were proposed for the opening, suspending, stopping, and closing of projects. Finally, the "Future Reality Tree" ensured that the proposed rules, conditions and procedures were set up as an available solution approved for practical application by executives. After a one-year trial run, the results showed that the Project Duration Rate was reduced by 53%, the Project Closed Rate was increased by 140% and the Project on Time Rate was increased from 10% to 68%. The above results give significant evidence of the benefits of the proposed methodology.

  • Purpose - This paper examines whether fiscal and monetary expansion would affect output in Australia. Research design, data, and methodology - An extended IS-LM model which describes the equilibrium in the goods market and the money market is applied. The real effective exchange rate and the real stock price are included in order to determine whether there may be any substitution or wealth effect. The sample consists of Annual data ranging from 1990 to 2018. The GARCH process is used in empirical work to correct for potential autoregressive conditional heteroscedasticity. Results - Expansionary fiscal policy reduces output; whereas, expansionary monetary policy raises output. In addition, real appreciation of the Australian dollar, a lower U.S. interest rate, a higher real stock price or a lower expected inflation would increase output. The finding that expansionary fiscal policy has a negative impact on real GDP suggests that the negative crowding-out effect on private spending dominates the positive impact. Conclusions - Fiscal prudence needs to be pursued. Real depreciation of the Australian dollar hurts output. Monetary tightening in the U.S. generates a negative effect on Australia's output. A healthy stock market is conducive to economic growth as higher stock prices tend to result in the wealth and other positive effects, increasing consumption and business spending.

  • A 19-year-old woman presented to our dental clinic with anterior crossbite and mandibular prognathism. She had a concave profile, long face, and Angle Class III molar relationship. She showed disharmony in the crowding of the maxillomandibular dentition and midline deviation. The diagnosis and treatment plan were established by a three-dimensional (3D) virtual setup and 3D surgical simulation, and a surgical wafer was produced using the stereolithography technique. No presurgical orthodontic treatment was performed. Using the surgery-first approach, Le Fort I maxillary osteotomy and mandibular bilateral intraoral vertical ramus osteotomy setback were carried out. Treatment was completed with postorthodontic treatment. Thus, symmetrical and balanced facial soft tissue and facial form as well as stabilized and well-balanced occlusion were achieved.

  • Purpose - Many countries rely on currency depreciation or debt-financed government spending to stimulate their economies. Currency depreciation tends to increase net exports and aggregate demand but reduce short-run aggregate supply due to higher import costs. Debt-financed government spending increases aggregate demand, but the crowding-out effect due to a higher real interest rate may reduce private spending and aggregate demand. Therefore, the net impact of currency depreciation or debt-financed government spending on equilibrium real GDP is unclear. Research design, data, and methodology - This paper examines potential impacts of real depreciation of the ringgit, more government debt as a percent of GDP and other relevant macroeconomic variables on aggregate output in Malaysia. Results - Applying the AD/AS model, this paper finds that aggregate output in Malaysia is positively associated with real appreciation during 2005.Q3-2010.Q3, real depreciation during 2010.Q4-2016.Q1, the debt-to-GDP ratio and the real stock price, negatively affected by the real lending rate and inflation expectations, and is not influenced by the real oil price. Conclusions - Real depreciation of the ringgit after 2010. Q3 or sustainable expansionary fiscal policy would be beneficial to the economy.

  • The purpose of this study was to find out the prevalence of dental anomalies in 600 normal persons (male:363, female:237) at age 14 to 39 years, through history taking, oral examination, and radiographic observations of subjects. The obtained results were as follows: 1. The prevalences of individual dental anomalies were as follows; Congenitally missing teeth 7%; supernumerary teeth 1.33%; ectopic eruption; 8.50%, transposition;0.33% rotation; 23.67%, microdontia;11.16%(peg lateralis;5.33%, third molar;5.83%), prolonged retention of deciduous teeth;1.33%, crowding 49.83%, and spacing;15.17%. 2. Alterations in numbers of teeth : The most frequently missing teeth were mandibular lateral incisors, followed by mandibular second premolars and maxillary second premolars. In numbers of congenitally missing teeth per person, 52.38% had one missing tooth and 30.95% had two missing teeth. In supernumerary teeth, there was higher rate in male than in female. Most supernumerary teeth were mesiodens of median area in maxilla and the eruption pattern of that teeth generally was unerupted state. 3. In transposition, exchange of position of teeth involved the canine and first premolar. 4. Congenital missing rate of permanent successors in prolonged retention of deciduous teeth was 69.23%. 5. Crowing and spacing had respectively higher rate in mandible and in maxilla.

  • The purposes of this study were 1) to examine the conceptual structure of purchasing situations and affective states, 2) and to fine out the relationships among impulsive buying behavior, purchasing situations, and affective states in boutiques. The questionnaire was completed by 345 boutiques customers in Busan. Demographics showed that the customers were higher educated and had higher incomes than the average consumer in Busan. Data were analysed by factor analysis, and t-test. First, the purchasing situation perceived by boutiques customers consisted of five factors; Crowding, Atmosphere/service, Exhausting/salesman's attire, Display, and Price. The affective states related to the impulsive buying behavior in boutiques composed of three factors; Pleasant, Unpleasant, and Insecure. Second, the impulsive buyer perceived Exhausting/salesman's attire and the pleasant affection in stores higher than the unimpulsive buyer, and the unimpulsive buyer made higher scores than the impulsive buyer in the situation of C개wding, Atmophere/service, and the Unpleasant affection at boutiques. The results showed that impulsive buyer was influenced by purchasing situations and affective states in stores. They provided informations about impulsive buying useful to consumer behavior researchers and retailers related to boutiques.

  • In this paper, we proposed a new architecture called radial basis function-based polynomial neural networks classifier that consists of heterogeneous neural networks such as radial basis function neural networks and polynomial neural networks. The underlying architecture of the proposed model equals to polynomial neural networks(PNNs) while polynomial neurons in PNNs are composed of Fuzzy-c means-based radial basis function neural networks(FCM-based RBFNNs) instead of the conventional polynomial function. We consider PNNs to find the optimal local models and use RBFNNs to cover the high dimensionality problems. Also, in the hidden layer of RBFNNs, FCM algorithm is used to produce some clusters based on the similarity of given dataset. The proposed model depends on some parameters such as the number of input variables in PNNs, the number of clusters and fuzzification coefficient in FCM and polynomial type in RBFNNs. A multiobjective particle swarm optimization using crowding distance (MoPSO-CD) is exploited in order to carry out both structural and parametric optimization of the proposed networks. MoPSO is introduced for not only the performance of model but also complexity and interpretability. The usefulness of the proposed model as a classifier is evaluated with the aid of some benchmark datasets such as iris and liver.

  • Ab initio calculations are carried out at the 6-311G$^{**}$ level for the $C_{2v}$ interactions of Be and Li atoms with acetylene molecule. The main contribution to the deep minima on the $^3B_2\;BeC_2H_2\;and\;^2B_2 LiC_2H_2$ potential energy curves is the b_2\;(2p(3b_2)-l{\pi}_g^*(4b_2))$ interaction, the $a_1\;(2s(6a_1)-I{\pi}_u(5a_1))$ interaction playing a relatively minor role. The exo deflection of the C-H bonds is basically favored, as in the $b_2$ interaction, due to steric crowding between the metal and H atoms, but the strong in-phase orbital interaction, or mixing, of the $a_1$ symmetry hydrogen orbital with the $5a'_1,\;6a'_1,\;and\;7a'_1$ orbitals can cause a small endo deflection in the repulsive complexes. The Be complex is more stable than the Li complex due to the double occupancy of the 2s orbital in Be. The stability and structure of the $MC_2H_2$ complexes are in general determined by the occupancy of the singly occupied frontier orbitals.
