  • Crosslinked polyethylene/silane crosslinked polyethylene (XLPE/SXLPE) blends were prepared by a twin screw extruder and their water tree and crosslinking characteristics were investigated. The water tree characteristics of XLPE were improved by the addition of SXLPE, when samples were cross- linked only by the thermorolysis of DCP (dicumyl peroxide). However, steam curing process was not good for water tree characteristics. It was also found that the degree of crosslinking of XLPE/SXLPE blends were higher than that of XLPE.

  • Poly(ethylene oxide)(PEO) of molecular weight of 300,000 was crosslinked by exposure to UV irradiation. Photochemical crosslinking of PEO occurred by UV irradiation and the presence of benzophenone in the film which acts as a hydrogen-abstracting agent. Percent conversion of the polymer into gel as well as water absorbency were investigated gravimetrically. Gel fraction and water absorbency of PEO films increased with increasing UV energy. In case of photocrosslinked PEO films with benzophenone, gel fraction increased up to about 90%. The thermal behavior of crosslinked PEO films was studied by thermogravimetric analysis. The maximum decomposition temperature increased with increasing UV energy and benzophenone concentration.

  • PVA films with 1,2,3,4-Butanetetracarboxylic acid(BTCA) and sodium hypophosphite monohydrate(SHM) were crosslinked via thermal curing. Different parameters affecting on the crosslinking were investigated including BTCA and SHM concentration, curing temperature and time. The cured films was extracted with boiling water and gel fraction was calculated from weight change of the PVA films. Moisture regain of the gelled films was also measured. While the gel fraction of PVA films increased with increasing curing temperature and time, moisture regain decreased. Water resistance of the crosslinked PVA films improved by the BTCA crosslinking treatment.

  • Resins have been synthesized from chlormethyl styrene 1,4- divinylbenzene(DVB) with 1%, 4%, and 20%-crosslinked and macrocyclic ligand of cryptand type by copolymerization method and the adsorption of uranium(VI), nickel(II) and lutetium(III) ions have been investigated in various experimental conditions. The correlation between the adsorption characteristics of rare earths and transition metal on the resins and stability constants of complexes with macrocyclic ligand have been examined. The uranium ion was not adsorbed on the resins below pH 2.0, but the power of adsorption of uranium ion increased rapidly above pH 3.0. The adsorption power was in the order of 1%, 4% and 20%-crosslinked resin, but adsorptive characteristics of resins decreased in proportion to the order of dielectric constants of solvents.

  • The microstructure and tensile properties of ramie treated with NaOH and crosslinked with 1, 2, 3, 4-butanetetracarboxylic acid were characterised. X-ray diffraction and FTIR were used to study the crystalline structure o f the resultant ramie yarns. Results showed that the maximum change in the structure of the modified ramie took place at 16% NaOH, which would completely transform Cellulose I to Cellulose II. Also, the crystallinity index and fibre orientation decreased to the minimum value while the absorption properties were enhanced. The average degree of polymerization of the treated ramie yams slightly decreased after NaOH treatment.

  • Polypropylene glycol (M.W. 4000) was crosslinked and chain-extended by using triisocyanate and diisocyanate to synthesize rubbery and water swellable hydrogels. Model drugs, i.e., sodium salicylate and indomethacin were incorporated in the polymer matrices by swelling loading. The drug release rates of drugs could be regulated by varying the degrees of crosslinking and chain-extension. Whereas, no correlation was observed between the drug release profiles and the swelling behaviours of the matrices. The release of drugs from the matrices was considered to be governed by the mobility and mesh size of the polymer chains in the matrices.

  • In this study, as one of the developing ways of the functional elastomer, improvement of the functionality of 1-Chlorobutadiene-Butadiene Copolymer(CB-BR) was attempt through curing reaction by moisture. The curing reaction of CB-BR was determined an use of $\gamma$-Aminopropyltriethoxysilane(APS) and $\gamma$-Aminopropylmethyldiethoxysilane(ADS) as a crosslinking agent with filler at so the uncrosslinked elastomer was exposured in the air and curing reaction by moisture in the air was studied. The results obtained are as follows. 1. APS was more efficient than ADS as a crosslinking agent for CB-BR 2. Optimum amount of APS for moisture cured elastomer was r=1.5(at the ratio of $[APS]/[Cl^*]$) also in case(r=1.5), elastomer formed after soaking $T_{72}$ had similar physical properties with elastomer crosslinked by sulfur and it was very good. 3. Uncrosslinked elastomer(CB-BR+APS+Silica) was easily crosslinked by exposure to the air, and the physical properties was also satisfactory.

  • The Acoustic Emission due to treeing progress in Crosslinked Polyethylene(XLPE) is studied by using the self developed automatic measuring system of acoustic emission. Tree progression and average pulse amplitude are almost in proportion to the rising of applied voltage but there is no proportionality relation between tree progression and pulse numbers. From now on, Skewness and kurtosis of average cycle, special property of $\phi$-a distribution characteristics can be confirmed as the useful parameters of treeing deterioration.
