A turnout which permits trains to pass from one track to another has a disconnecting rail component, namely a crossing, so that noise and vibration arc occurred abruptly when train is passing through it. In Korea, it is planned to adopt the high speed tilting train, which operates at the speed of 180 km/h, at the conventional line. However, for application of the tilting train, it is prerequisite to establish the stable turnout system allowing the tilting train to pass through it without reducing speed. This study was performed to evaluate noise and vibration emitted from the prototype turnout which is developed for speed-up of the conventional line. For the purpose, noise and vibration were measured at near the conventional turnout and the improved one, which is constructed at Waegwan station and Kumi station of Gyeongbu line, respectively.
A turnout system which permits trains to pass from one track to another is a combination of the switch, the crossing, lead rails which are necessary to connect the switch and the crossing, two guard rails and switch machines for operating the switch. A turnout is the sole moving part among the railway components and has complex configuration, so the safety has always been raised an issue. In Korea, it is planned to adopt the high speed tilting train, which operates at the maximum speed of 180km/h, at conventional lines. However, for the application of the tilting train to conventional lines, it is prerequisite to establish a stable turnout system allowing the tilting train to pass through it without reducing speed. Therefor, the improved turnout system for the speed-up of conventional lines has been developed and the prototype of the turnout system has been constructed. In this study, evaluation of Vibration characteristics around the improved turnout system was performed through the field measurements. Field measurements of Vibration around the conventional and the high-speed turnout system were also carried out for the comparison.
In line with current speed-up of railroad, a slab track has been increasingly adopted in a bid to secure the safety of track structure as well as to reduce the maintenance cost, and furthermore, the need for commercialization of domestically-developed swing-nose crossing turnout on slab track has been on the rise. For commercialization of swing-nose crossing turnout on slab which was developed in Korea, a technical and systematic performance evaluation system, considering local environment, shall be established and then the performance evaluation shall be accordingly implemented. This paper was intended to summarize the performance evaluation system, referring to the data available at home and abroad and the results of performance evaluation for domestically-developed swing-nose crossing turnout on slab track carried out to date based on that system. A performance evaluation system comprises the technical requirement appropriateness evaluation(component performance evaluation and design verification), laboratory test and on-site test. For domestically-developed swing-nose crossing turnout on slab track, appropriateness evaluation and laboratory test have been completed and the on-site test of those installed on the 2nd phase of Kyung-Bu HSR is underway now.
An investigation was conducted to evaluate both the time required and the time allowed for persons to cross streets. Currently, the local municipality uses a standardized formula to determine the time allotted for 'WALK' signals to function allowing pedestrian traffic to cross thoroughfares. The formula to determine the 'Theoretical Time(in seconds)' is the width of the street(in meter) divided by 1.2m/s. The basis of the denominator is 'normal' walking speed. Initially, 3 locations were chosen to evaluate the time between the appearance of the 'WALK' signal and the appearance of the 'DON'T WALK'. The interval between the two signals was assumed to allow a person to begin crossing the street at the appearance of the 'WALK' signal and terminate their crossing at the appearance of the 'DON'T WALK' signal. Of the 3 locations, 2 locations(elementary?middle schools and general hospital areas), the duration of the 'WALK' signal were not properly set and therefore need more time for those who use these cross walks. Specific details regarding the crossing locations and validity of the standardized formula were also presented and discussed.
More than 80 percent of traffic accidents related with lane departure believed to be the result of crossing the lane due to either negligence or drowsiness of the driver. Lane-departure related accident in the highway usually involve high fatality. Even though LDWS is believed to prevent accident 25% and reduce fatalities by 15% respectively, its effectiveness in performance is yet to be confirmed in many aspects. In this study, the vehicle lateral locations relative to warning zone envelop (earliest and latest warning zone) defined in ISO standard, ECE and NHTSA regulations are compared with respect to various factors including delays, vehicle speed and vehicle heading angle with respect to the lane. Since LDWS is designed to be activated at the speed over 60 km/h, vehicle speed range for the study is set to be from 60 to 100 km/h. The vehicle heading angle (yaw angle) is set to be up to 5 degree away from the lane (abrupt lane change) considering standard for lane change test using double lane-change test specification. The TLC is calculated using factors like vehicle speed, yaw angle and reaction time. In addition, the effect of vehicle type and reaction time have been considered to assess LDWS safety.
This paper presents zero crossing point(ZCP) estimation methods considering discretization error for a high speed brushless DC(BLDC) motor drive. The ZCP is estimated by detecting the change of back-EMF polarity for the BLDC sensorless drive, and the discretization error exist on the estimated ZCP. The discretization error of the ZCP is a cause of the delay of a commutation timing of current and increment of a current ripple factor. Besides a delay of a ZCP estimation brings on the limitation of a speed range for the BLDC sensorless drive. The compensation method based on the error analysis with probability theory for reducing the effects of the discretization error of the ZCP is proposed. Also a ZCP estimation method according to the Back-EMF patterns is proposed to widen the speed range for the BLDC sensorless drive. The proposed methods are verified by the experiment.
This paper presents a design method of programmable low pass filter(PLPF) which reduce an estimation error of a zero crossing point(ZCP) for a high speed brushless DC(BLDC) motor drive. BLDC motor sensorless drive is possible by estimation of ZCP. The ZCP estimated by detecting a change of back-EMF polarity has the estimation error because noises exist on the measured back-EMF. Therefore a calculated commutation timing using the ZCP is inaccurate. And the inexact commutation timing leads to ripples of 3-phase current and degradation of drive performance. This paper proposes the design method of the PLPF to overcome these problems. First, a speed calculated a inaccurate period of the ZCP is analyzed in the frequency domain. Then, the PLPF that has varying cut-off frequency according to change of the speed is designed on the frequency analysis result. The proposed method is verified by the experiment.
