  • In empirical study for fitting a multiple linear regression model for successive cross-sections data observed on the same set of independent variables over several time periods, one often faces the problem of poor $R^2$, the multiple coefficient of determination, which provides a standard measure of how good a specified regression line fits the sample data.

  • Material extrusion (ME)-type 3D printing is the most popular among the 3D printing processes. In this study, the cross-section morphologies of ME-type 3D printing manufactured specimens were observed with respect to the thermal properties of the material. The cross-section morphology of a specimen is related to the deposition strength, and the outside profile of the cross-section is related to the surface roughness. The filaments used in this study, with different thermal conductivities, were the acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene (ABS), the high impact polystyrene (HIPS), the glycol-modified polyethylene terephthalate (PETG), and the polylactic acid (PLA). The cross-sections and the surfaces of the 3D manufactured specimens were examined. In ME-type 3D printing, the filaments are extruded through a nozzle and they form a layer. These layers rapidly solidify and as a result, they become a product. The thermal conductivity of the material influences the cooling and solidification of the layers, and subsequently the cross-section morphology and the surface roughness.

  • The subjects of the study are the sedimentary rock slope of the Mesozoic Gyeongsang Supergroup, which has a high risk of failure. The rocks of the slope shall be sandstone, siltstone and dacite, and discontinuities shall develop beddings, shear joints, extension joints, and dacite dyke boundary planes. The type and scale of failure varies depending on the type of rock and the strike/dip of the discontinuities, but the planar failure prevails. Based on the face-mapping data, SMR, physical and mechanical testing of rocks, the critical equilibrium analysis, all representative sections required a countermeasure method because the acceptable safety factor during dry and rainy seasons were far below Fs=1.5 and Fs=1.2. After applying the countermeasure method, both the dry and wet conditions of the slope exceeded the allowable safety factor. In particular, the face-mapping data of the slope-face, the geological cross-sections of several representative sections perpendicular to the slope-face, and the critical equilibrium analysis and the presentation of countermeasure methods that have been reviewed based on them are expected to be reasonable tools for the slope stability.

  • In this paper, the reactive dynamics properties of the reactions Ba + $C_6H_5Br$ and Ba + m-$C_6H_4CH_3Br$ were studied by means of the quasi-classical trajectory method based on the London-Eyring-Polanyi-Sato potential energy surfaces. The vibrational distributions, reaction cross sections, rotational alignments of the products BaBr all were obtained. The peak values of the vibrational distributions are located at $\nu$ = 0 for the reactions Ba + $C_6H_5Br$ and Ba + m-$C_6H_4CH_3Br$ when the collision energies are 1.09 and 1.10 eV, respectively. The reaction cross sections increase with the increasing collision energy, which changes from 0.6 to 1.5 eV. The product rotational alignments deviate from -0.5 and firstly increase and then decrease while the collision energy is increasing, just like that of Heavy+Light-Light system.

  • CaO-Al2O3 glass is a good candidate as optical fiber amplifier and laser. In this study, optical properties for 4I13/2longrightarrow4I15/2 transition of Er3+ ions doped in CaO-Al2O3 glasses were investigated. Optical absorptions, radiative transition probabilities and lifetimes for 4I13/2 level were evaluated by using Judd-Ofelt theory. Also, induced- emmision cross-sections of 4I13/2longrightarrow4I15/2 transition were calculated. Radiative transition probability and lifetime of 4I13/2 level were 144.6s-1, 690$mutextrm{s}$ respectively for 60CaO.40Al2O3 glass(FS0) and 152.6s-1, 660 $mutextrm{s}$ for 54 CaO.36Al2O3.10SiO2 glass (FS10). Each induced-emission cross sections for FS0 and FS10 was 0.749$\times$10-20 $\textrm{cm}^2$, 0.892$\times$10-20 $\textrm{cm}^2$. Obtained values were comparable with those of ZBLA glass studied as optical fiber amplifier and laser material.

  • Composites are somewhat more difficult to model than an isotropic material such as iron or steel due to the fact that each layer may have different orthotropic material properties. In finite element literature the asphalt mixes are represented by using rectangular meshes, not the actual picture of their cross-sections. Asphalt aggregate size and distribution in the asphalt concrete sample, aggregate shape, and fractured surface effects are ignored. In this research, the actual image of the sample including all these effects were directly considered in the finite element. The samples, were cut into cross-sections and were scanned. The image-processing toolbox of Labview was utilized in obtaining the rectangular gray images of the scanned images. In the rectangular sample the aggregates were white and the asphalt binders were black. The grayscale images were converted by LABVIEW into the format required by ANSYS as an input file, with the same dimensions. The nodes at the bottom of the model were constrained in both x and y directions. Left and right edges were symmetry and top was free. Certain amount of pressure was applied along the top surface to simulate the tire pressure.

  • Energy distribution function for electrons in $SF_6$-Ar mixtures gas used by MCS-BEq algorithm has been analysed over the E/N range $30{\sim}300[Td]$ by a two term Boltzmann equation and by a Monte Carlo Simulation using a set of electron cross sections determined by other authors, experimentally the electron swarm parameters for 0.2(%) and 0.5(%) $SF_6$-Ar mixtures were measured by time-of-flight(TOF) method, The results show that the deduced electron drift velocities, Electrons Drift Velocities for a rang of E/N values. As a consequence, it was known that the spatial growth rates and the dielectric behaviors in $SF_6$-Ar mixtures are strongly dependent on the addition rate of $SF_6$ gas but the transport coefficients of electrons are insensitive to the addition rate of $SF_6$ gas. The results obtained from Boltzmann equation method and Monte Carlo simulation have been compared with present and previously obtained data and respective set of electron collision cross sections of the molecules.

  • To overcome the drawback of currently available curved beam theories having non-symmetric thin-walled cross sections, a curved beam theory based on centroid-shear center formulation is presented for the spatially coupled free vibration and elastic analysis. For this, the displacement field is expressed by introducing displacement parameters defined at the centroid and shear center axes, respectively. Next the elastic strain and kinetic energies considering the thickness-curvature effect and the rotary inertia of curved beam are rigorously derived by degenerating the energies of the elastic continuum to those of curved beam. And then the equilibrium equations and the boundary conditions are consistently derived for curved beams having non-symmetric thin-walled cross section. It is emphasized that for curved beams with L- or T-shaped sections, this thin-walled curved beam theory can be easily reduced to the solid beam theory by simply putting the sectional properties associated with warping to zero. In order to illustrate the validity and the accuracy of this study, FE solutions using the Hermitian curved beam elements are presented and compared with the results by previous research and ABAQUS's shell elements.

  • Fluence and LET spectrum for 290,400 MeV/u $\^$12/C and 400 MeV/u $\^$20/Ne beams have been measured by a $\Delta$E-E counter telescope. Total charge-changing cross sections are deduced from measured fluence. The measured cross sections agree with previous measurements, however, they are disagreement with a model calculation. To dose-averaged LETs, the model calculation can reproduce the measured LETs except for peak LETs at Bragg peak region.

  • Ionization and Attachment Coefficients in pure $CH_4$, $CF_4$ and mixtures of $CF_4$ and Ar, have been analyzed over a range of the reduced electric field strength between 0.1 and 350[Td] by the two-term approximation of the Boltzmann equation (BEq.) method and the Monte Carlo simulation (MCS). The calculations of electron swarm parameters require the knowledge of several collision cross-sections of electron beam. Thus, published momentum transfer, ionization, vibration, attachment, electronic excitation, and dissociation cross-sections of electrons for $CH_4$, $CF_4$ and Ar, were used. The results of the Boltzmann equation and the Monte Carlo simulation have been compared with the data presented by several workers. The deduced transport coefficients for electrons agree reasonably well with the experimental and simulation data obtained by Nakamura and Hayashi. The energy distribution function of electrons in $CF_4$-Ar mixtures shows the Maxwellian distribution for energy. That is, f(${\varepsilon}$) has the symmetrical shape whose axis of symmetry is a most probably energy. The proposed theoretical simulation techniques in this work will be useful to predict the fundamental process of charged particles and the breakdown properties of gas mixtures.
