  • We studied YBCO films for current limiting of the resistive type which utilizes a transition from superconducting to normal state caused by exceeding critical current. The films were deposited on sapphire substrates and covered by gold top layer. The current limiting element consists of 2 mm wide YBCO stripes connected in series. A serious problem in using YBCO films for current limiting is inhomogeneities caused by imperfect manufacturing. Therefore simultaneous quench is a difficult problem when elements for current limiting are connected in series. So some researchers have recently proposed using magnetic field and heating for simultaneous quench. We have measured extended exec trim field-current density(E-J) characteristics for current limiting elements of YBCO films in applied magnetic field of 0 - 130 mT. And we have investigated quench characteristics in current limiting elements and between elements of YBCO films in applied magnetic field. The result of the experiments show that the presence of applied magnetic fields induces uniform quench distribution fur the stripes in element at $50V_{rms}$, otherwise non-uniform quenches were observed. And simultaneous quenches between elements were investigated at $150V_{rms}$. We suggest that suppressing the critical current by increased fields due to fault current effectively forced the stripes of higher $J_{c}$(0) to quench, resulting in equalizing quench times.s.s.s.

  • The effect of DC electric fields on the flame extinction was investigated experimentally in counterflow configurations for the methane/oxygen/nitrogen diffusion flame. The electric fields was applied by connecting the high voltage and ground terminals to the upper and lower burners, respectively. In case of having electric fields, several modes of flame extinction was observed according to the electric field intensity and strain rate defined by the exit velocity. To visualize and characterize the flame structure and intensity, planar LIF technique was adopted for OH radicals. Consequently, several length scales, including the flame width, thickness, and height from the burner tip, were introduced to explain the various flame behaviors and to characterize the flame extinctions. It was found that the variation of flame width and the chemical reaction are strongly related to a critical electric field intensity, thus the various modes of diffusion flame extinction could be observed due to the electric fields.

  • In order to improve the surface uniformity and the conduction properties of the fabricated YBCO thick films, a system that applies alternating field vertically to the EPD field has been developed for the first time and applied to the electrophoretic deposition process. The applied alternating electric field, so called Shaky Alternating Assisted Field, caused a force to be exerted on each YBCO particle and resulted in a shaking of the particle in the direction of applied electric field, accomplishing a uniform particle orientation. The usual commercial electrical power was used for the vertically applied alternating voltage and the induced electric field was 25-120 V/cm at 60Hz. The thick film fabricated by the method developed in this paper showed better surface uniformity without crack and porosity and improved film characteristics such as critical temperature (Tc,zero = 90 K) and critical current density (2354 A/$\textrm{cm}^2$), Therefore, it is expected that the shaky-aligned electrophoretic deposition method can be used to fabricate superconductor films through a simpler process and at less expense.

  • The Breakdown electric field of ZnO semiconductor devices in voltage-current characteristics was increased by increasing of additive materials. The specimen that has not additive materials was not formed spinel structure. The critical voltage that has not spinel structure was 235[V]. When the additive materials has 0.5 and 2[mol%], the Breakdown electric field was 840 and 758[V] in each additive materials. The Breakdown electric field of varistors as a factor of voltage and current was increased by addition of oxide antimony. The varistors that has oxide antimony was linearly increased in low electric field.

  • The objective of this study is to investigate the change of physicochemical properties of humic acid, surfactants and water by pulsed electric field treatment. Critical micelle concentration(CMC) of surfactants and physicochemical properties of water were determined by the conductivity measurement, FT-IR and NMR, respectively. In electric field processing, structural changes of C-N complex and C=O were founded by FT-IR analysis. The increase of Hertz wave was in the range of 2.3 to 9.9 Hz in NMR analysis. CMC of cation and anion surfactant decreased to 1.3% and 9.2%, respectively, while the value of UV-vis increased. UV-vis of humic acid decreased by pulsed electric field. Therefore, application of pulsed electric field systeme was directly indicated to influence the physicochemical properties of water and organic compounds.

  • This paper describes the analysis of electric field distribution of high voltage polymeric bushing with structure. The high voltage bushing consists of FRP tube and housing made of LSR. The field control can be achieved by means of the design of such internal field shaper and top corona ring as grading electrodes. In accordance, the optimized design uses both internal and external elements for electric stress grading at critical parts of the bushing. Maxwell 2D simulator based on the boundary element method was also introduced in order to verify the reliability of the polymeric bushing.

  • In this work the recyclable new polyethylene(PE) and polypropylene(PP), which are thermoplastic, have been investigated as the eco-friendly insulating candidates to replace the cross-linked polyethylene (XLPE). The temperature dependence of conductivities of these materials has been measured and its effects on electric field and space charge distribution in polymeric insulated power cable under temperature gradient have been calculated. It is shown that the sensitivity of conductivity to temperature change has more critical influence to determine the electric field distribution in the power cable than the absolute value of conductivity does and it can be said that the temperature dependence is one of most important factors for the power cable design.

  • It costs high in both memory usage and time consuming to sample the space to compute charge density and calculate electric field on that with large size of plasma data. In real-time and interactive application, accelerating the compute time is critical problem. In this paper, we suggest new method to visualize electric field by using convolution theorem, and the parallel computing to accelerate computing time by using GPGPU. We conduct a simulation that compare running time between the methods with convolution and without convolution. We discussed the method of visualization of multivariate data in three dimensional space using colored volume rendering and surface construction.

  • Amorphous semiconductor from As 30 Te 48 Ge 10 Si 12 was prepared, and studied electron microscopy, X-ray analysis and resistivity measurement. It's resistivity is 1.56*10$^{6}$ .ohm.-cm when small ampule is used for preparing sample it is found that no phase separation has occurced by electron microscopy, and that phase transition temperature is 232.deg. C by differential Thermal Analysis. The specimen showed threshold switching that the low resistance state occur at critical electric field and the resistance recover at low applied field. Critical electric field of the switching is 10$^{5}$ V/cm at room temperature. Threshold voltage secreace exponentially with increasing ambient temperature and at that each voltage resistance of the switching device increase exponentially. According to the series resistance and applied vottage current slope on the V-I curve is varied. When applied voltage is decreased after switching, the resistance of the switching device is increased. By this result the origin of the switching is the Joule's heating.
