Identifying torsional eccentricity in buildings without performing detailed structural analysis

  • Seismic design codes permit the use of Equivalent Static Analysis of buildings considering torsional eccentricity e with dynamic amplification factors on structural eccentricity and some accidental eccentricity. Estimation of e in buildings is not addressed in codes. This paper presents a simple approximate method to estimate e in RC Moment Frame and RC Structural Wall buildings, which required no detailed structural analysis. The method is validated by 3D analysis (using commercial structural analysis software) of a spectrum of building. Results show that dynamic amplification factor should be applied on torsional eccentricity when performing Response Spectrum Analysis also. Also, irregular or mixed modes of oscillation arise in torsionally unsymmetrical buildings owing to poor geometric distribution of mass and stiffness in plan, which is captured by the mass participation ratio. These irregular modes can be avoided in buildings of any plan geometry by limiting the two critical parameters (normalised torsional eccentricity e/B and Natural Period Ratio 𝜏 =T𝜃/T, where B is building lateral dimension, T𝜃 uncoupled torsional natural period and T uncoupled translational natural period). Suggestions are made for new building code provisions.

  • A 60-year-old man was diagnosed with stage IV squamous cell carcinoma of lung and treated with weekly doses of docetaxel and cisplatin. Tumor mass and mediastinal lymphadenopathy disappeared after 4.5 cycles of chemotherapy. At one week post final chemotherapy, the patients developed sudden shortness of breath. New, multifocal infiltrations developed on both lungs without definitive evidence of infection. Despite administration of broad spectrum antibiotics, the lung lesion did not improve, so bronchoalveolar lavage and computed tomography-guided lung biopsy were performed. The proportion of lymphocytes was increased markedly and histopathology revealed squamous cell carcinoma combined with bronchiolitis obliterans organizing pneumonia. After high dose corticosteroid therapy, dyspnea and the newly developed consolidation had decreased slightly. However, dyspnea and hypoxemia increased again because of aggravated lung cancer since chemotherapy had stopped. Chemotherapy couldn't be restarted due to the poor performance status of the patient. Later, patient died of respiratory failure from poor general condition and progression of lung cancer.

  • Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is a neurodevelopmental disorder characterized by social and communication impairments, as well as repetitive and restrictive behaviors. The phenotypic heterogeneity of ASD has made it overwhelmingly difficult to determine the exact etiology and pathophysiology underlying the core symptoms, which are often accompanied by comorbidities such as hyperactivity, seizures, and sensorimotor abnormalities. To our benefit, the advent of animal models has allowed us to assess and test diverse risk factors of ASD, both genetic and environmental, and measure their contribution to the manifestation of autistic symptoms. At a broader scale, rodent models have helped consolidate molecular pathways and unify the neurophysiological mechanisms underlying each one of the various etiologies. This approach will potentially enable the stratification of ASD into clinical, molecular, and neurophenotypic subgroups, further proving their translational utility. It is henceforth paramount to establish a common ground of mechanistic theories from complementing results in preclinical research. In this review, we cluster the ASD animal models into lesion and genetic models and further classify them based on the corresponding environmental, epigenetic and genetic factors. Finally, we summarize the symptoms and neuropathological highlights for each model and make critical comparisons that elucidate their clinical and neurobiological relevance.

설계용 탄성응답스펙트럼으로 규준화된 인공지진동과 기록지진동의 비선형 지진응답 (Nonlinear Seismic Estimates of Recorded and Simulated Ground Motions Normalized by the Seismic Design Spectrum)

  • 비선형 시간이력응답해석에서 입력지진동은 구조물의 탄소성 지진응답을 결정짓는 중요한 요소이다. 시간이력해석에 사용되는 기록지진동파형은 지진발생 메카니즘, 전달경로, 지반의 성질에 따른 여러 가지 인자가 복잡하게 관련되어 있기 때문에 구조물의 지진응답해석에 사용될 일반성을 갖는 입력지진동을 선정하는 것은 매우 어려운 문제이다. 본 논문은 실무에서 내진설계용 지진동으로 가장 선호하지 않는 입력지진동을 선정하여 인공지진동파형을 작성하였다. 인공지진동은 기록지진동과 동일한 위상각을 가지며, 감쇠정수 h=5%일 때의 설계용 스펙트럼과 거의 일치하도록 작성되었다. 기록지지동과 인공지진동을 입력한 1자유도계의 탄성 및 탄소성 지진 응답해석을 수행하여 탄소성 응답스펙트럼 및 입력에너지 응답 특성을 분석하였다. 본 연구에서 작성된 인공지진동은 건축구조물의 탄소성 지진응답해석용 입력지진동으로 충분히 타당성이 있다고 사료된다.

자폐스펙트럼장애아동을 대상으로 한 국내 로봇활용 융합연구동향 (Research Trends and Considerations in The Clinical Use of Robots for Children with Autism Spectrum Disorders)

  • 본 연구의 목적은 국내에서 이루어진 자폐스펙트럼장애아동을 대상으로 한 로봇 활용 융합연구동향을 살펴보는 것이다. 이를 위하여 최근에 장애 아동의 교육적, 치료적 중재에 연구되고 있는 로봇연구 동향을 살펴보고자 하였다. 연구방법으로, 자폐를 키워드로 2009년 이후에 발표된 논문을 검색하여 총 17편의 연구 논문을 최종 선정하였고, 활용로봇, 독립변인, 종속변인 유형, 연구방법을 바탕으로 하여 주제별 범주로 묶어 내용 분석하였다. 연구결과, 그 중 자폐아동을 위한 로봇개발은 발전이 빠른 분야 중 하나이며, 자폐스펙트럼장애아동의 중재에 유용한 것으로 나타났다. 연구를 통해 향후 로봇활용의 일반화를 촉진할 수 있는 적용 절차 및 단계 등에 대한 세분화된 접근이 필요함을 알 수 있었다.

모드기여도를 고려한 복수모드구조물의 지진취약도분석 (Seismic Fragility Analysis of Multi-Modes Structures Considering Modal Contribution Factor)

  • 이 연구는 원자력발전소 구조물의 확률론적 내진성능을 평가하는 수단으로 이용되고 있는 지진취약도분석 기법에 대하여 소개하고, 지진취약도분석에 입력자료로 제공되는 기본변수의 특성에 대하여 논의하였다. 특히, 지진취약도 분석결과에 지대한 영향을 미칠 수 있는 입력변수의 하나인 응답스펙트럼형태계수의 정의 방법을 개선하였다. 새로운 응답스펙트럼형태계수는 구조물의 고유진동모드별 기여도가 전체 구조응답에 미치는 영향을 고려할 수 있도록 모드별 기여도를 이용하여 표현하였다. 대표적인 원자력발전소 구조물을 대상으로 예제분석을 수행하고, 제안된 응답스펙트럼형태계수의 유용성 및 적용성을 검증하였다. 특히, 이 논문의 방법은 복합모드감쇠특성을 갖는 구조물의 경우에도 효과적으로 적용될 수 있음을 확인하였다.

Automatic Detection of Type II Solar Radio Burst by Using 1-D Convolution Neutral Network

  • Type II solar radio bursts show frequency drifts from high to low over time. They have been known as a signature of coronal shock associated with Coronal Mass Ejections (CMEs) and/or flares, which cause an abrupt change in the space environment near the Earth (space weather). Therefore, early detection of type II bursts is important for forecasting of space weather. In this study, we develop a deep-learning (DL) model for the automatic detection of type II bursts. For this purpose, we adopted a 1-D Convolution Neutral Network (CNN) as it is well-suited for processing spatiotemporal information within the applied data set. We utilized a total of 286 radio burst spectrum images obtained by Hiraiso Radio Spectrograph (HiRAS) from 1991 and 2012, along with 231 spectrum images without the bursts from 2009 to 2015, to recognizes type II bursts. The burst types were labeled manually according to their spectra features in an answer table. Subsequently, we applied the 1-D CNN technique to the spectrum images using two filter windows with different size along time axis. To develop the DL model, we randomly selected 412 spectrum images (80%) for training and validation. The train history shows that both train and validation losses drop rapidly, while train and validation accuracies increased within approximately 100 epoches. For evaluation of the model's performance, we used 105 test images (20%) and employed a contingence table. It is found that false alarm ratio (FAR) and critical success index (CSI) were 0.14 and 0.83, respectively. Furthermore, we confirmed above result by adopting five-fold cross-validation method, in which we re-sampled five groups randomly. The estimated mean FAR and CSI of the five groups were 0.05 and 0.87, respectively. For experimental purposes, we applied our proposed model to 85 HiRAS type II radio bursts listed in the NGDC catalogue from 2009 to 2016 and 184 quiet (no bursts) spectrum images before and after the type II bursts. As a result, our model successfully detected 79 events (93%) of type II events. This results demonstrates, for the first time, that the 1-D CNN algorithm is useful for detecting type II bursts.

지진특성을 고려한 장경간 현수교량의 시공방안별 내진성능 평가에 관한 연구 (A Study on Seismic Capacity Assessment of Long-Span Suspension Bridges by Construction Methods Considering Earthquake Characteristics)

  • 시공단계별 수치해석 및 안전성 평가는 장경간 교량의 시공 중 불안전성을 해결하기 위한 주요 검토사항으로 고려되어야 한다. 장경간 교량의 시공단계해석에 따른 구조응답특성 평가 시, 근거리지진(NFGM)의 영향은 기존 입력지진동 데이터와는 확연히 다른 특성을 가지고 있기 때문에 내진설계를 위한 주요 변수로 평가되어야 한다. 따라서 이 연구에서는 응답스펙트럼 해석결과를 바탕으로 NFGM 특성에 따른 장경간 교량의 응답양상을 재검토하였으며, 장경간 교량의 시공단계해석 및 신뢰성평가를 효율적으로 수행하기 위해 관련연구에서 제시된 수치해석 프로그램을 개선하였다. NFGM 특성을 고려한 다양한 시공방안의 우수성은 주요 부재의 시간이력해석 결과를 이용하여 평가하였다. 정량적인 안전수준 평가를 위해 확률변수에 포함된 External Uncertainty의 영향을 고려하여 신뢰성해석을 수행하였으며, NFGM 특성에 따른 주요 시공단계의 안전지수 및 파괴확률을 제시하였다. 아울러, 몬테카르로 시뮬레이션(MCS)을 이용하여 신뢰성해석 결과에 대해 Internal Uncertainty의 영향을 검토하였으며, 주요 해석결과의 분포양상을 평가하였다. 이 연구는 NFGM 특성을 고려한 장경간 교량의 내진설계 시, 시공안전성 향상을 위한 기초자료를 제공할 것으로 기대된다.

지능센서의 센싱능력 평가를 위한 평가기법 개발 (Development Estimation Method to Estimate Sensing Ability of Smart Sensors)

  • In this paper, the new method that estimates a sensing ability of smart sensor will be proposed. A study is estimation method that evaluates sensing ability about smart sensor respectively. According to acceleration(g) and displacement changing, we estimated sensing ability of smart sensor using SAI(Sensing Ability Index) method respectively. Smart sensors was made fer experiment. The types of smart sensor are two types(hard and soft smart sensor). Smart sensors developed for recognition of material. Experiment and analysis are executed for estimate the SAI method. In develop a smart sensor, the SAI method will be useful for finding optical design condition of smart sensor that can sense a material. And then dynamic characteristics of smart sensors(frequency changing, acceleration changing, critical point, etc.) are evaluated respectively through new method(SAI) that use the power spectrum density. Dynamic characteristic of sensor is evaluated with SAI method relatively. We can use the SAI for finding critical point of smart sensor, too.

A Robust Audio Fingerprinting System with Predominant Pitch Extraction in Real-Noise Environment

  • The robustness of audio fingerprinting system in a noisy environment is a principal challenge in the area of content-based audio retrieval. The selected feature for the audio fingerprints must be robust in a noisy environment and the computational complexity of the searching algorithm must be low enough to be executed in real-time. The audio fingerprint proposed by Philips uses expanded hash table lookup to compensate errors introduced by noise. The expanded hash table lookup increases the searching complexity by a factor of 33 times the degree of expansion defined by the hamming distance. We propose a new method to improve noise robustness of audio fingerprinting in noise environment using predominant pitch which reduces the bit error of created hash values. The sub-fingerprint of our approach method is computed in each time frames of audio. The time frame is transformed into the frequency domain using FFT. The obtained audio spectrum is divided into 33 critical bands. Finally, the 32-bit hash value is computed by difference of each bands of energy. And only store bits near predominant pitch. Predominant pitches are extracted in each time frames of audio. The extraction process consists of harmonic enhancement, harmonic summation and selecting a band among critical bands.
