The LCM test is one of the most powerful and reliable methods for designing the disc cutter and for predicting the TBM (Tunnel Boring Machine) performance. It has an advantage to predict the actual load on disc cutter from the laboratory test on the real-size large rock samples, however, it also has a disadvantage to transport and/or prepare the large rock samples and to need an extra cost for experiment. Moreover it is not easy to execute the test for jointed rock mass, and sometimes the design model estimated from the test can not be applied to the real design of disc cutter. In order to break this critical point, lots of numerical studies have been performed. PFC2D can simulate crack propagation and rock fragmentation effectively, because it is useful in particle flow analysis. Consequently, in this study, the PFC2D has been adopted for numerical analysis on cutting power of disc cutter according to the different angle of joint, the different direction of joint, and the different space of joint with jointed rock mass models. From the numerical analyses, it was concluded that the bigger cutting power of disc cutter was needed for reverse cutting direction to joint rather than for forward direction, and the cutting power of disc cutter was increased with decreasing the dip angle of joint and decreasing the space of joints in reverse cutting direction. The more precise numerical model for disc cutter can be developed from comparison between the numerical results and LCM test results, and the resonable guideline is expected for prediction of TBM performance and disc cutter.
PURPOSES : The piezoelectric energy road analysis technology using a three-dimensional finite element method was developed to investigate pavement behaviors when piezoelectric energy harvesters and a new polyurethane surface layer were installed in field conditions. The main purpose of this study is to predict the long-term performance of the piezoelectric energy road through the proposed analytical steps. METHODS : To predict the stresses and strains of the piezoelectric energy road, the developed energy harvesters were embedded into the polyurethane surface layer (50 mm from the top surface). The typical type of triaxial dump truck loading was applied to the top of each energy harvester. In this paper, a general purpose finite element analysis program called ABAQUS was used and it was assumed that a harvester is installed in the cross section of a typical asphalt pavement structure. RESULTS : The maximum tensile stress of the polyurethane surface layer in the initial fatigue model occurred up to 0.035 MPa in the transverse direction when the truck tire load was loaded on the top of each harvester. The maximum tensile stresses were 0.025 MPa in the intermediate fatigue model and 0.013 MPa in the final fatigue model, which were 72% and 37% lower than that of the initial stage model, respectively. CONCLUSIONS : The main critical damage locations can be estimated between the base layer and the surface layer. If the crack propagates, bottom-up cracking from the base layer is the main cracking pattern where the tensile stress is higher than in other locations. It is also considered that the possibility of cracking in the top-down direction at the edge of energy harvester is more likely to occur because the material strength of the energy harvester is much higher and plays a role in the supporting points. In terms of long-term performance, all tensile stresses in the energy harvester and polyurethane layer are less than 1% of the maximum tensile strength and the possibility of fatigue damage was very low. Since the harvester is embedded in the surface layer of the polyurethane, which has higher tensile strength and toughness, it can assure a good, long-term performance.

In recent years, nano-structured thin film systems are often applied in industries such as MEMS/NEMS device, optical coating, semiconductor or like this. Thin films are used for many and varied purpose to provide resistance to abrasion, erosion, corrosion, or high temperature oxidation and also to provide special magnetic or dielectric properties. Quite a number of articles to evaluate the characterization of thin film structure such as film density, film grain size, film elastic properties, and film/substrate interface condition were reported. Among them, the evaluation of film adhesive to substrate has been of great interest. In this study, we fabricated the polymeric thin film system with different adhesive conditions to evaluate the adhesive condition of the thin film. The nano-structured thin film system was fabricated by spin coating method. And then V(z) curve technique was applied to evaluate adhesive condition of the interface by measuring the surface acoustic wave(SAW) velocity by scanning acoustic microscope(SAM). Furthermore, a nano-scratch technique was applied to the systems to obtain correlations between the velocity of the SAW propagating within the system including the interface and the shear adhesive force. The results show a good correlation between the SAW velocities measured by acoustic spectroscope and the critical load measured by the nano-scratch test. Consequently, V(z) curve method showed potentials for characterizing the adhesive conditions at the interface by acoustic microscope.

This paper presents an investigation of the structural stability of cable-stayed bridges in the construction stage, using geometric nonlinear finite-element analysis and considering various geometric nonlinearities, such as the sag effect of the cables, the P-${\Delta}$ effects of the girder and mast, and the large displacement effect. Initial shape analysis and construction-stage analysis were performed to determine the equilibrium of the structure in the construction stage. After that, geometric nonlinear analysis was performed to study structural stability. In this study, the weight of the derrick crane and the key segment were considered the main external loads, which were applied to the tip of the center span. The cable arrangement type and the stiffness ratios of the girder and mast were considered the main parameters of the analytic research. Based on the results of the analysis, the change in the buckling mode and critical load factors with respect to the cable arrangement type and the stiffness ratios of the girder and mast was investigated. The buckling modes of the steel cable-stayed bridges in the construction stage were classified, and the ranges of the stiffness ratios of the girder and mast, which show these classified buckling modes, were suggested.
The effects of soil acidification on the seedling growth and nutrition of Pinus densiflora and Quercus acutissima were investigated. The relationship between the seedling growth and molar (Ca+Mg+K)/Al ratio of in soil solution was examined. The results suggested that growth inhibition of seedling Pinus densiflora and Quercus acutissima was due to the low pH of soil solution, which was followed by leach of Al into soil solution, and decrease of essential elements, such as Ca in aerial pant of the seeding caused by the increase of Al concentration in subterranean pant of the seedlings. The level of growth inhibition was determined not only by Al concentration, but also by the balance of inorganic elements, Al, Ca, Mg and K. The growths of two species in total dry weight were clearly inhibited when molar (Ca+Mg+K)/Al ratio of the soil was lower than 6.0. The growth in dry weight, in the condition of the molar ratio was 0.8, was decreased 60% or 50% for the seedling of Pinus densiflora or Quercus acutissima respectively. It was concluded that the molar (Ca+Mg+K)/ Al ratio could be an important index for evaluation of the effects of soil acidification, due to acid deposition such as acid rain, on growth of trees and nutrition. And it might be a more useful indicator for evaluation of critical load of acid deposition on forest ecosystems.
For many years clustered heterogeneous web server architecture has been formed on the internet because the explosive internet services and the various quality of requests. The critical point in cluster environment is the mapping schemes of request to server. and recently this is the main issue of internet architecture. The topic of previous mapping methods is to assign equal loads to servers in cluster using the number of requests. But recent growth of various services makes it hard to depend on simple load balancing to satisfy appropriate latency. So mapping based on requested content to decrease response time and to increase cache hit rates on entire servers - so called “content-based” mapping is highly valuated on the internet recently. This paper proposes Prioritized Highest Random Weight mapping(PHRW mapping) that improves content-based mapping to properly fit in the heterogeneous environment. This mapping scheme that assigns requests to the servers with priority, is very effective on heterogeneous web server cluster, especially effective on decreasing latency of reactive data service which has limit on latency. This paper have proved through algorithm and simulation that proposed PHRW mapping show higher-performance by decrease in latency.

The synthesis of octenyl succinyl ${\beta}$-gucan (OSA-${\beta}$-glucan) was carried out and its interfacial properties at the oil-water interface and in emulsion systems were investigated. An aqueous ethanol system as a reaction media was used to facilitate the synthesis process; 10% (w/w) ethanol found to be the best as it showed a maximum degree of substitution (DS: 0.0132). FT-IR showed a characteristic absorption spectrum at $1736cm^{-1}$, indicating the esterification of octenyl succinyl groups to ${\beta}$-glucan backbone. As for interfacial tension measurements, it was decreased with increasing concentration of OSA-${\beta}$-glucan in the aqueous phase and when NaCl was added to aqueous OSA-${\beta}$-glucan solution in the range of 0.01 M to 0.1 M and also when pH was raised (pH 3 ~ pH 9). In systems of emulsion stabilized with OSA-${\beta}$-glucan, fat globule size found to decrease with increasing concentration of OSA-${\beta}$-glucan, showing a critical value of about $0.32{\mu}m$ at 0.5 wt%. When the OSA-${\beta}$-glucan emulsions were stored, it was found that fat globule size was increased with storage time and particularly pronounced increase was observed in emulsion with 1% OSA-${\beta}$-glucan, possibly due to depletion flocculation. Results of creaming stability evaluated by light scattering technique showed that it was more stable in emulsions containing smaller fat globule size. Surface load of OSA-${\beta}$-glucan in emulsions increased with increasing concentration of OSA-${\beta}$-glucan, suggesting a multilayer adsorption.
The shortest path problems(SPP) are critical issues in the military logistics such as the simulation of the War-Game. However, the existing SPP has two major drawbacks, one is its accuracy of solution and the other is for only one solution with focused on just link cost in the military transportation planning models. In addition, very few previous studies have been examined for the multi-shortest path problems without considering link capacity reflecting the military characteristics. In order to overcome these drawbacks, it is necessary to apply the multi-shortest paths algorithm reflecting un-expected military incidents. This study examines the multi-shortest paths in the real networks using Shier algorithm. The network contains both military link capacity and time-based cost. Also, the modes are defined as a platoon(group) rather than unit which is used in most of previous studies in the military logistics. To verify the algorithm applied in this study. the comparative analysis was performed with various sizes and routes of network which compares with Dijkstra algorithm. The major findings of this study are as follows ; 1) Regarding the unique characteristics of the military transportation plan, Shier algorithm, which is applied to this study, is more realistic than Dijkstra algorithm. Also, the time based concept is more applicable than the distance based model in the military logistics. 2) Based on the results from the various simulations of this study the capacity-constraint sections appeared in each scenarios. As a consequence, the alternatives are necessary such as measures for vulnerable area, improvement of vehicle(mode), and reflection of separated-marching column in the military manuals. Finally. the limits and future research directions are discussed : 1) It is very hard to compare the results found in this study. which is used in the real network and the previous studies which is used in arbitrary network. 2) In order to reflect the real military situations such as heavy tanks and heavy equipment vehicles. the other constraints such as the safety load of bridges and/or the height of tunnels should be considered for the future studies.
Lodging is classified as root lodging caused by the loss of supporting force in the root, bending caused by the deformation of the stem and breaking where the stem breaks down as loads exceeding critical elasticity were applied. This research excluded breaking which is not in a state of equilibrium and tried to partition the level of lodging using an algebraic model in root lodging and stem lodging, or bending. When a vertical load was applied, the deformation of the stem of rice plant showed the form of a quadratic equation. The trace of the panicle neck in the process of lodging was an ellipse-shape. When loading was pure root lodging, the trace of the panicle neck became a circle of which culm length is the radius. When it was a pure stem lodging, the trace of the panicle neck is an ellipse of which major axis is culm length and minor axis is 0.64* culm length. When both stem lodging and root lodging occurred in a natural setting, the partitioning of lodging can be calculated by a formula using eccentricity of an ellipse, S=e*100/0.768(S is the ratio of stem lodging in the whole lodging, e is eccentricity of the ellipse). This method is expected to be useful in simple lodging partitioning. We could also calculate the partitioning of stem lodging and root lodging as units of angles as an accuracy method, by using a straight line calculated by differentiating a quadratic equation of stem deformation at the origin of the coordinates. These two methods for dividing root and stem lodging showed different values. However, each of them showed almost same values with different lodging degree in one plant.
This study was carried out to examine the effects of soil acidification on growth and nutrient status of 2 - year - old Pious densiflora Sieb. et Zucc. seedlings grown for 120 days in brown forest soils acidified with $H_2SO_4$ solution with or without leaching rations from the soil. The concentrations of A1 in the acidified soils increased with increasing amount of $H^+$ added to the soil. The total dry weight of the seedlings was decreased by the addition of the $H_2SO_4$ solution. The increase of Al concentration in the belowground part resulted from the decreased concentration of essential mineral elements such as Ca and Mg in the aboveground part. In addition, a strong positive correlation(r=0.96, p<0.001) was observed between the dry weight of the seedlings and the molar (Ca+Mg+K)/A1 ratio of the soil solution. When the molar (Ca+Mg+K)/Al ratio was approximately 7.0, the dry weight of the seedlings began to decrease compared with that of the seedlings in the control treatment. The seedlings with the molar (Ca+Mg+K)/Al ratio of 1.0 resulted from approximately 40% growth reduction compared with the control value. The results suggest that the molar (Ca+Mg+K)/Al ratio of the soil solution may be a useful indicator for assessing the critical load of acid deposition.
