  • A field survey and Landsat ETM+ image acquisition carried out simultaneously. Using these data, we attempted to establish relationships between tidal flat environmental factors and reflectance observed by ETM+, and to set up a new critical grain size useful for optical remote sensing. Although the grain size of 4 $\Phi$ has been conventionally used as a critical size by sedimentologists, the correlation with optical reflectance was very low. Instead, the grain size of 2 $\Phi$ showed a relatively high correlation coefficient, 0.699, with ETM+ band 4, except near tidal channels in upper tidal flat. We concluded that the grain size of 2 $\Phi$ would be better to use for a critical grain size in Gomso Bay. The grain size also correlated well with moisture content having a correlation coefficient of -0.811 when the 2 $\Phi$ criterion was used. The results of factor analysis showed moisture content was more important parameter than topographic relief, and they were different from German tidal flats in which topographic relief was the prior factor This can be explained by finer grain composition of the Gomso bay tidal flat. In short, moisture content and topography as well as grain size should be considered in tidal flat remote sensing.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify the relationship among followership, organizational commitment, job satisfaction, turnover intention, and customer orientation in hospital nurses. Methods: The participants in this study were 210 staff nurses in one university hospital. Data were analyzed using frequency, ANOVA, Pearson correlation analysis, and stepwise multiple regression. Results: Followership had positive correlations with organizational commitment (r=.46, p<.001), job satisfaction (r=.41, p<.001), customer orientation (r=.47, p<.001). Followership had negative correlation with turnover intention (r=-.23, p<.001). The factor of followership influencing organizational commitment was active engagement, and this factor accounted for 23.3% of explanatory power. The factor of followership influencing job satisfaction was active engagement (F=45.00, p<.001), and this factor accounted for 17.8% of explanatory power. The factor of followership influencing turnover intention was active engagement (F=19.69, p<.001), and this factor accounted for 17.0% of explanatory power. The factors of followership influencing customer orientation were active engagement (F=51.38, p=.004) and independent, critical thinking (F=24.55, p=.011), and these factors accounted for 22.1% of explanatory power. Conclusion: Findings indicate a need to develop followership to promote organizational commitment, job satisfaction, and customer orientation and to decrease turnover intention in nurses.

  • Recently, Adopting Accounting Information Systems(AIS) has spread rapidly for efficient and rational making decision in the business organization. There are many types of AIS. These are from simple package to integrated packages which are including HR, Product, Sales and Distribute. In case of big enterprises, ERP systems have been implemented and attention is now being directed as to AIS module. AIS module is not easy to change its form, therefore this module need to be considered enough when it comes to the corporations. However there we few standard fer this module as a successful information systems. This study analyze critical factors of certain companies when the companies were implementing AIS and based on this analysis, this study suggest a framework for successful implementation of AIS Using Case Study. 42 AIS adopted companies are surveyed and their factors' correlations are analyzed by mean analysis and factor analysis in this study. As a result of this study, when a company adopt AIS, criteria or particularities for the adoption are more important than environment of the company. Thus, it is significant to empirically prove previous studies' factors relation and importance relations for successful AIS implementation through empirical method in this study.

  • A technology transfer from public research centers or national universities to a company is an increasing phenomenon. The purpose of this study is thus to identify the major evaluation criteria of technology transfer from a company viewpoint and establish the importance weights of criteria through 2 level AHP analysis. First, 12 critical elements are extracted from previous studies and professional interview and these elements are tied into 4 factors; technological factor, organizational factor, environmental factor, and strategic factor. The results of AHP analysis show that strategic factor is more important and 'the growth of the technology' in the strategic factor is the most important element. This study will be used usefully when researchers in public research centers or national universities try to develop a technology considering a technology transfer to the other company.

  • Recent deepwater offshore structures in the Gulf of Mexico utilize butt welded tubular joints. Application of a welded tubular joint includes tendons, production risers, and steel catenary risers. Fatigue life assessment of these joints becomes more critical, as the structures to which they are attached are allowed to undergo cyclic and sometimes large displacements around an anchored position. Estimation of the fatigue behavior of these tubular members in the design stage is generally condrcted by using S-N curves, as specified in the codeds and standards. Applying the stress concentration factor of the welded structure to the S-N approach often results in a very conservative assessment, because the stress field acting on the tubular has a non-uniform distribution through the thickness. Fatigue life analysis using fracture mechanics has been applied in the design of the catenary risers. This technology enables the engineer to establish proper requirements on weld quality and inspection acceptance criteria to assure satisfactory structural integrity during its design life. It also provides guidance on proper design curves and a methodology for accounting for the effects of non-uniform stress distribution through the wall thickness. Still, there is inconsistency when designing tubular joints using a conventional S-N approach and when specifying weld flaw acceptance criteria using fracture mechanics approach. This study developed fatigue curves that are consistent with both the S-N approach and the fracture mechanics approach. Accounting for non-uniform stress distribution and threshold stress intensity factor were key parameters in relating both approaches. A series of S-N curves, generated from the fracture mechanics approach, were compared to the existing S-N curves. For flat plate butt joint, the S-N curve generated from fracture mechanics matches with the IIW class 100 curve when initial crack depth was 0.5 mm (0.02 ). The new curves for tubular joint agree very well with the experimental results. The comparison also indicated the degree of conservatism built into the API X design curve.

  • A water treatment utility in South Korea operates a large system of pressurized hollow fiber membrane (PHFM) modules. The optimal selection of membrane module for the full scale plant was critical issue and carried out using Risk-based Life Cycle Cost (RbLCC) analysis based on the historical data of operation and maintenance. The RbLCC analysis was used in the process of decision-making for replacing aged modules. The initial purchasing cost and the value at risk during operation were considered together. The failure of modules occurs stochastically depending on the physical deterioration with usage over time. The life span of module was used as a factor for the failure of Poisson's probability model, which was used to obtain the probability of failure during the operation. The RbLCC was calculated by combining the initial cost and the value at risk without its warranty term. Additionally, the properties of membrane were considered to select the optimum product. Results showed that the module's life span in the system was ten years (120 month) with safety factor. The optimum product was selected from six candidates membrane for a full scale water treatment facility. This method could be used to make the optimum and rational decision for the operation of membrane water purification facility.
