  • There have been many studies to visualize the vibration and noise of rotary compressor. Most of these studies assumed that the signal is stationary and the time-averaged signal is used for visualization. However, the noise and vibration signals generated during one cycle of crank shaft vary continuously. In this paper, the noise and vibration of rotary compressor which vary continuously are visualized by short time fourier transform method. (omitted)

  • This paper presents the development of 15G(Integrate Starter Generator). The ISG is the crank shaft mount type and it is installed at tile flywheel. The wide operating range of ISG requires large constant power speed ratio, good overload performance and high efficiency. High saliency ratio permanent magnet motor is developed for the ISG applications and 500A MOSFET inverter is designed to derive the ISG. The characteristic of developed ISG is investigated using the special test-bed for the 42V PowerNet and the detailed results is presented

  • In recent the energy efficiency of a refrigerator has been restricted extremely. A compressor consumes a great portion of input power in a refrigerator. So it is necessary to develop a more efficient compressor in these days. The existing reciprocating compressor need to a crank shaft to convert the rotating motion to the straight motion and is not efficient. But the linear compressor using mechanic resonance is efficient but need a drive instead of a crank shaft to control a position accurately. However it is impossible to apply a stroke sensor practically because of the internal circumstance of compressor. In this paper, A new sensorless stroke control method using the current and voltage of linear compressor is proposed.

  • The press machine is actuated by the rotating motion of crank shaft and the reciprocating motion of slide. In recent years, unbalance moments and forces to the main frame attract many researches, as press technology becomes more miniaturized, precise, and rapid. In order to control vibrations caused by the rapid motions of the crank shaft and slide, this paper studies a resolution reducing the unbalance at the high speed knuckle press.

  • As design trends has changed to have flexible aft hull structure, increased power output and stiffer shafting system, owners and classification societies have more concerned about shaft alignment. In the shaft alignment analysis, there are many uncertainties which are related in propeller generated force, bearing stiffness, crank shaft model and etc. in this study, it is focused on the effect of crankshaft model by comparing between equivalent model and actual crankshaft model.

  • A crank angle-based engine control system has been developed for use as an engine research tool to provide precise control of the fuel injection(timing and duration) and ignition(timing and dwell) in real-time. The engine event information is provided by the engine shaft encoder, and the engine control system uses this information to generate spark and injector control signals for relevant cylinders. Eight different engine types and four different rotary encoder resolutions can be accommodated by this system. Also this system allows a user to individually control the ignition and fuel injection for each cylinder in a simple manner such as through a keyboard or in a real-time operation from a closed-loop control program.

  • The crack in a J85 engine V.G. actuator arm shaft for a bell crank on the engine compressor was investigated. The crack was observed in twenty two shafts during the inspection of 238 shafts. The failure analysis of shaft cracks was performed by chemical composition analysis using ICP(Inductively Coupled Plasma) and by fracture surface and microstructure analysis using FE-SEM and optical microscope. The crack initiated from the top and bottom and propagated to the center along the grain boundaries. From the chemical composition analysis, the fractography of the fracture surface and the microstructure, it was found that the failure mechanism of the shafts is the inclusion-related intergranular decohesion crack. The inclusion was found out from MnS particle by EDS(Energy Dispersive Spectroscopy). The crack initiated MnS inclusion in the grain boundary and propagated with the increase of applied shear stress during long operation. In order to prevent the fracture, NDI(Nondestructive inspection) is needed periodically as recommended.

  • The diesel engine is often a serious excitation source in ships. Both the varying cylinder gas forces and the reciprocating and rotating mass forces associated with the crank and the connecting rod mechanism produce ample possibilities for excitation of the engine structure itself, the shafting, the surrounding substructures as well as the hull girder. This paper presents a guide for optimization of excitation forces produced by the marine propulsion 2-stroke diesel engine. The computational program for predicting the excitation forces is developed and applied to 2-stroke in-line engines. The object function is defined as the work done by every cylinder excitation force which is related to the mode shape of the diesel engine system, especially in the torsional vibration of the shafting. As a practical application of the presented method, the crank angle of 7 cylinder 2-stroke engine is optimized to reduce torsional vibration stresses on the shafting. Compared with the regular firing angle, about 60% of the 4th order torsional vibratory stress on the propeller shaft can be reduced by optimizing the crank angle irregularly. The usefulness of the presented optimization method is confirmed by the measurements.
