The fracture process zone in concrete is a region ahead of a traction-free crack, in which two
major mechanisms, microcracking and bridging, play important roles. The toughness due to
bridging is dominant compared to toughness induced by microcracking, so that the bridging is
dominani: mechanism governing the fracture process of concrete. Fracture mechanics does work
for concrete provided that the fracture process zone is being considered, so that the development
of model for the fracture process zone is most important to describe fracture phenomena in
concrete.
In this paper the bridging zone, which is a part of extended rnacrocrack with stresses
transmitted by aggregates in concrete, is modelled by a Dugdale-Barenblatt type model with linear
tension-softening curve. Two finite element techniques are shown for the analysis of progressive
cracking in concrete based on the discrete crack approach: one with crack element, the
other without crack element. The advantage of the technique with crack element is that it dees
not need to update the mesh topology to follow the progressive cracking. Numerical results by
the techniques are demonstrated.

Fracture Mechanics does work for concrete, provided that a finite nonlinear zone at fracture front is being considered. The development of model for fracture process zone is most important to describe fracture phenomena in concrete. The fracture process zone is a region ahead of a traction-free crack, in which two major mechanisms, microcracking and bridging, play important rules. The toughness due to bridging is dominant compared to toughness induced by microcracking, so that the bridging is dominant mechanism governing the fracture process of concrete. In this paper the bridging zone, which is a part of extended macrocrack with stresses transmitted by aggregates in concrete, is model led by a Dugdale-Barenblatt type model with linear tension-softening curve. Two finite element techniques are shown for the model of fracture process zone in concrete.

The influence of cyclic bending moment on the delamination and the fatigue crack propagation behavior in Al/GFRP laminate such as the wing section was investigated. The main objective of this study was to evaluate the relationship between crack profile and delamination behavior. And a propose parameter on the delamination growth rate(d $A_{D}$/da) of Al/GFRP laminates with a saw-cut using relationship between delamination area( $A_{D}$) and cycles(N), crack length(a), stress intensity factor range($\Delta$K). Also, the fiber bridging effect factor( $F_{BE}$ ) was propose that the fiber bridging modification factor($\beta$$_{fb}$ ) to evaluate using the delamination growth rate(d $A_{D}$/da). The shape and size of the delamination zone formed along the fatigue crack between aluminum alloy sheet. Class fiber-adhesive layer were measured by an ultrasonic C-scan image. The shape of delamination zone turns out to be semi-elliptic with the contour decreased non-linearly toward the crack tip. It represents that relationship between crack length and delamination growth rate(d $A_{D}$/da) were interdependent by reciprocal action, therefore it's applicable present a model for the delamination growth rate(dA/sib D//da) in Al/GFRP laminates.minates.s.

Steel fiber reinforced concrete(SFRC) which is made by short, randomly distributed steel fibers in concrete is superior in its tensile mechanical properties to plain concrete in enhancement of tensile strength and tensile ductility. These improvements are attributed to crack arresting mechanism and formation of longer crack paths due to fibers , which as a consequence lead to increase in energy absorption capacity of SFRC. In the post-peak region under tensile stresses, major macrocrack forms at critical section. The opening of this macrocrack is mainly resisted by both of the fiber pull-out bridging the cracked surfaces and the resistance by matrix softening. In this study, micromechaincal approach has been made in order to simulate tensile behavior of SFRC and based on which the theoretical model is presented. This model reflects the features of both the composite material concept and the spacing concept in predicting tensile strength of SFRC. The model also takes into account for the effects of matrix tensile softening and fiber bridging by pull-out on the resistance for the post-peak behavior of SFRC. It has been shown that the developed model satisfactory predicts the experimental results.
Recently, many researches have been done to examine the behavior of fiber reinforced concrete (FRC) subjected to the static loading. However, a few studies have been devoted to cyclic behaviors of FRC. A main objective of this paper is to investigate the cyclic behavior of FRC through theoretical method. A new cyclic bridging model was proposed for the analysis of fiber reinforced cementitious composites under cyclic loading. In the model, non-uniform degradation of interfacial bonding under cyclic tension was considered. Fatigue test results for FRC were numerically simulated using proposed models and the proposed model is achieving better agreement than the previous model. Consequently, the model can establish a basis for analyzing cyclic behavior of fiber reinforced composites.

In this paper, the post cracking stress-crack width relationship of the composite is studied from a micromechanics points of view. Cook-Gordon debonding effect is studied by more refined method with considering of chemical friction of fiber interface. As a result, fiber with pre-debonding length retards stress development and shows more wide crack width for the same force level. longer pre-debonding length and lower pre-debonding bond strength results in lower full-debonding force, but same crack width.

A theoretical prediction model of fiber bridging curve was established based on the assumption that fibers are uniformly distributed on the crack surface. However, the distance between fibers and their orientation with respect to crack surface can greatly affect the prediction of fiber bridging curve. Since, the shape of fiber bridging curve is a critical factor for predicting the tensile stress-strain relationship of ECC, it is expected that the assumption of uniform distribution of fiber may cause a significant error when predicting the tensile behavior of ECC. To overcome this shortcoming, a new prediction method of stress-strain relation of ECC is proposed based on the modified fiber bridging curve. Only effective fibers are taken into account considering the effects of their orientation and distance between them. Moreover, the approach for formulating the tensile stress-strain relation is discussed, where a procedure is presented for obtaining important parameters, such as the first crack strength, the peak stress, the displacement at peak stress, tensile strain capacity, and the crack spacing. Subsequent uniaxial tensile tests were performed to validate the proposed method. It was found that the predicted stress-strain relations obtained based on the proposed modified fiber bridging curve exhibited a good agreement with experimental results.

If Fiber Reinforced Metal Laminates(FRMLs) were delaminated, the decrease of stiffness and fiber bridging effect would result in the sudden aggravation of fatigue characteristics. It was reported that the delamination of FRMLs resulted from the crack of metal layers and that it depended on the crack growth. While cracks were made in FRMLs containing a saw-cuts under fatigue loading, cracks could be produced or not in FRMLs with circular holes under the same condition. When the FRMLs with the circular holes produce not the crack but the delamination, it is not possible to analyze it by the conventional fracture parameters expressed as the function of the crack. And so, this research suggests a new analytical model of the delamination to make the comparison of the delamination behavior possible whenever the cracks occur or not. Therefore, a new analytical model called Pseudo Crack Model(PCM) was suggested to compare the delaminations whether cracks were made or not. The relationship between the crack energy consumption rate( $E_{crack}$) and the delamination energy consumption rate( $E_{del}$) was discussed and it was also known that the effect of $E_{del}$ was larger than that of $E_{crack}$.
A simple method was suggested to calculate the stress intensity factor for a one-sided patched crack with finite thickness. To consider out-of-plane bending effect resulting from the load-path eccentricity, the spring constant as a function of the through-thickness coordinate z was calculated from the stress distribution in the un-cracked plate, ${\sigma}_{yy}(y=0,\;z)$, and the displacement for the representative single strip Joint, $u_y(y=0,\;z)$. The stress Intensity factors were obtained using Rose's asymptotic solution approach and compared with the finite element results. In short crack region, two results had a little difference. However, two results were almost same in long crack region. On the other hand, the stress intensity factor using plane stress assumption was more similar to finite element result than plane strain condition.
