  • The shape of edge cracking in rolling process generally occurred "V" shape. This cracking is successively generated at width edge of strip. The edge cracking is developed to center of strip during rolling process. In the results, the strip is occurred fracture, and the productivity is gone down because of the extensive production time. Accordingly, we need to control crack propagation during rolling process. But, the control of cracking is very difficult in rolling process. Previously the studies of edge cracking were mainly performed on hot rolling process. In this paper, the shape of the edge cracking in rolling was estimated according to process conditions such as initial edge crack size, reduction ratio and tension using FE-simulation and the simplicity experiments on cold rolling process.

  • In this study, three kinds of cellulose fibers to crack reduction performance were evaluated and the results are as follows. Plastic shrinkage cracking is evaluated by the relative crack area, at all levels between $0.9kg/m^3$ and $1.2kg/m^3$, except for UF0.9% of upto50% showed are duction compared with Plain. In according to recommended amount of fiber in each area of the crack HF0.9>CEL1.2>UF0.6 effect of the order was more effective. While the impact strength of UF and CEL fibers until the final destruction are about five times the number of falls, HF fiber count drop was 10-18 time.

  • Many problems in various aspects such as generation of plastic/dry contraction cracks and cold joints can be caused unless proper quality control measures are established in hot weather circumstances. Therefore, this study aimed to compare the crack patterns of concrete by applying a change in 3 surface curing methods such as a mono aluminum-deposited bubble sheet developed to reduce the temperature and cracks through reflection of heat in summer and a PE film and a surface exposure used generally to an actually constructed apartment slab. The study result confirmed that the best concrete crack reduction effect can be obtained with a mono aluminum-deposited bubble sheet.

  • The welding implementation used widely in the industrial field is gradually increasing due to weight reduction. unlimited material thickness. simplified structure design. and 1 manufacturing time and cost reduction. The most significant factor that influences the fatigue crack growth rate is the residual stress generated during the welding process. Many researchers have studied the effect of the residual stress on crack growth behavior. Through a fatigue test in a various-thickness welded specimen. redistributed residual stress is measured as the crack is developed. Then. by superposing the measured residual stress on the K value obtained by the finite element method.

  • Fatigue crack initiated in welded tubular joints due to cyclic loading may produce harmful effect on the integrity of the tubular structures. To study such effect, both fatigue and static tests on nine circular tubular T-joint specimens made of carbon steel materials were carried out. The specimens were subjected to tensile loading in both fatigue and static tests. The load-displacement relation, the crack propagation and the failure mode of the specimens are all analyzed. The deterioration of the static strength of the cracked T-joints is also investigated and evaluated through an area reduction factor. Experimental results indicate that the static strength of a tubular T-joint with a surface crack seems to decrease slightly while a through crack has relatively remarkable effect on the reduction of the static strength. Additionally, experimental results also show that the toughness of the materials and the geometry of the specimens play an important role on the failure process of cracked tubular T-joints.

  • The LBB behavior and the crack opening displacement after a crack penetrated wall thickness of statically indeterminate piping system were investigated in this study, compared with statically determinate piping system. The reduction of ultimate strength caused by a crack was relatively small in the statically indeterminate piping system. The statically indeterminate piping system has more safety margin for LBB behavior than the statically determinate piping system. The crack opening displacement could be evaluated by using the plastic rotation angle proposed to evaluate the crack opening displacement after crack penetration in pipe with a non-penetrating crack.

  • A composite element method (CEM) is presented to analyze the free and forced vibrations of a cracked Euler-Bernoulli beam with axial force. The cracks are introduced by using Christides and Barr crack model with an adjustment on one crack parameter. The effects of the cracks and axial force on the reduction of natural frequencies and the dynamic responses of the beam are investigated. The time response sensitivities with respect to the crack parameters (i.e., crack location, crack depth) and the axial force are calculated. The natural frequencies obtained from the proposed method are compared with the analytical results in the literature, and good agreement is found. This study shows that the cracks in the beam may have significant effects on the dynamic responses of the beam. In the inverse problem, a response sensitivity-based model updating method is proposed to identify both a single crack and multiple cracks from measured dynamic responses. The cracks can be identified successfully even using simulated noisy acceleration responses.

  • This paper presents the experimental study on crack control of core-wall placed with 700kg/$\textrm{cm}^2$ Ultra high strength concrete. The thermal sensors were installed into the core-walls prior to the concrete casting to measure the heat of hydration and atmospheric temperature whose difference might cause the initial crack. Several curing schemes were taken for each basement floor 8 thru 6 to examine the influence of curing method on the crack width, total crack length and the number of crack occurred. This paper demonstrates that the proper curing scheme have a great favorable effect on the initial crack control on the structural elements with noticiable reduction in crack width.

  • It is well known that the analytical vibration characteristic of a cracked beam depends largely on the crack model. In the forward analysis, an improved and simplified approach in modeling discrete open cracks in beams is presented. The effective length of the crack zone on both sides of a crack with stiffness reduction is formulated in terms of the crack depth. Both free and forced vibrations of cracked beams are studied in this paper and the results from the proposed modified crack model and other existing models are compared. The modified crack model gives very accurate predictions in the modal frequencies and time responses of the beams particularly with overlaps in the effective lengths with reduced stiffness. In the inverse analysis, the response sensitivity with respect to damage parameters (the location and depth of crack, etc.) is derived. And the dynamic response sensitivity is used to update the damage parameters. The identified results from both numerical simulations and experiment work illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed method.

  • This work focuses on the effects of crack free friction on Mode II stress intensity factors, $K_{II}$, for a vertical surface crack in a two-dimensional finite element model of TiN/steel subject to rolling contact. Results indicate that maximum $K_{II}$ values, which occur when the load is adjacent to the crack, may be significantly reduced in the presence of crack face friction. The reduction is more significant for thick coatings than for thin. Crack extension and increased layer thickness result in increased $K_{II}$ values. The effect of crack face friction on compressive $K_I$ values appears negligible. Comparative results are presented for $MoS_2/steel$ and diamond-like carbon(DLC)/Ti systems.
