반타원 표면균열 형상측정을 위한 유한요소 전기장 해석에 기초한 직류전위차법의 개발 (Development of the DCPD Method Based on Finite Element Analysis for Measuring Semi-Elliptical Surface Cracks)

  • One of major problems in analyzing failure mechanism of real components is the accurate measurement of crack size and shape. The DCPD(Direct Current Potential Drop) method has been widely used for the crack measurement of a structure and finite element analysis has been used for the derivation of calibration equations, which relates the potential drop with the crack depth. In this paper, finite element analyses were performed for semi-elliptical surface cracks with various crack shapes(a/c) and crack depths(a/t). As a result, a calibration equation has been derived for the measurement of a semi-elliptical surface crack in wide plates. Analytical results are compared with experimental results to evaluate the validity and the applicability of the derived equation. The proposed method is expected to provide efficient and accurate measurement of a surface crack during crack growth.

영상처리기법을 이용한 CCT 시편 균열의 자동관측법에 관한 연구 (The Measurement of the Crack in CCT Specimen Using the Image Processing Techniques)

  • In the analysis of fatigue crack propagation behavior, the crack length is one of the most important factors. In the test of crack propagation, compliance method is widely used to detect crack length. The measurement of surface crack length is not so easy with compliance method. In this study, the image processing technique was applied to measure the surface crack length. CCD(Charge-coupled device) camera was used to observe the crack image and the computer program to detect crack length from stored crack image was developed. CCT(Center Cracked Tension) specimen was used to compare the compliance method with the image processing technique. The crack length which detected by the image processing techniques was found to be well consistent with that from the optical measurement.

  • The objective of this paper is to examine the detection limit, growth characteristics and notch curvature radius in short crack problem. Measurement techniques such as ultrasonic method and back-face strain compliance method were adopted. The fatigue crack growth rate of the short crack is slower than that of a long crack for a notched specimen. The characteristic of crack growth and crack closure is same as the case of a delay of crack growth caused by constant amplitude load for an ideal crack or single peak overload for a fatigue crack. The short crack is detected effectively by ultrasonic method. A short surface crack occurs in the middle of specimen thickness and is transient to a through crack depth is larger than the notch curvature radius.

  • The constant .DELTA. K fatigue tests are performed in SS41 and its weldment. The LASER ISDG method is used in determination of crack opening ratio. This method is more precise than indirect measurement method, faster and easier than other direct measurement method. And obtained results are followed 1) Crack opening ratio U is proportional to fatigue crack growth rate da/dN at constant .DELTA. K 2) Fatigue crack growth rate da/dN in weldment increases in weld metal and heat affected zone, decreases in base metal as crack grows.

  • The constant .DELTA.K fatigue tests are performed in SS41 and its weldments to investigate crack opening behavior and fatigue crack propagation behavior at each parts of weldment and its boundary layer. The weldments were annealed after welding for the purpose of relieving residual stress. Every weldments has notch at weld metal zone, and fatigue crack propagates from weld metal zone to vase metal zone perpendicular to weld line. The Laser ISDG method is used in order to determine the crack opening ratio, this method is more precise than indirect measurement method, and faster and easier than other direct measurement method.

  • The initial crack often occurs on the bonded interface and it is the general cause of the interface fracture. It is very significant to establish the measurement method of interfacial crack by applying the ultrasonic technology into the interface of bonded dissimilar materials. In this paper, the interfacial crack length was measured by ultrasonic attenuation coefficient in the Al/Epoxy bonded dissimilar materials of double-cantilever beam(DCB). The energy release rate, G, was obtained by the experimental and Ripling's equation measurement of compliance. The experimental results represent that the relation between interfacial crack length for the ultrasonic attenuation coefficient and energy release rate is increased proportionally. From the experimental results, a measurement method of the interfacial crack length by the ultrasonic attenuation coefficient was proposed and discussed.

미소균열 측정에 대한 DIC 스펙클 형상의 영향 (The Effect of the DIC Speckle Patterns for a Microcrack Measurement)

  • In order to secure the safety of various machinery, it is very important to develop a technique for accurately and quickly measuring the cracks generated in the mechanical equipment and evaluating the mechanical characteristics. The evaluation of the mechanical properties is accompanied by an appropriate strain measurement according to the material and crack occurrence of the target structure. Especially, when micro cracks are generated, the evaluation method is very important. Digital image correlation is an optical full field displacement measuring method which is using currently with speckles in the interested area. However the evaluation method and conditions of image distributions have to be considered carefully to measure the crack occurrence because the images of the speckle patterns affect the quality of displacement results. In this study, the speckle pattern density is characterized to improve the accuracy of the measurement method. And also the micro crack initiation is detected by the measured displacement in the adopted speckle pattern distribution. It is shown that the proposed method is useful to determine the density pattern distribution for the accurate measurement and crack detection.

  • A crack in concrete structure gives trouble to safety of building and human life. This study gives that development of auto extract system in a structure crack by digital image impersonal method for extract structure crack. This system will be possible to impersonal measurement for old concrete building and structure. For this auto extract system, used geometry of high resolution digital image and crack line extract by relation based image matching method. Now to conclude, this auto extract system gives a method that a quick measurement of building crack, hold objectivity in result, makes standardization for acquirement data, optimization result of measurement.

  • J-R curve tests were performed on 1T compact specimens of SA516 Gr. 70 carbon steels under reverse cyclic loading. A Direct-Current Potential Drop (DCPD) method, one of the nondestructive techniques to detect flaw of structure, is being increasingly used for monitoring crack initiation and stable crack growth in typical fracture mechanics specimens for J-R testing. In many aspects this method is simpler than the unloading compliance method. The objective of this paper is to evaluate the J-R Curve according to the crack length measurement techniques under reverse cyclic loading. In order to prove the reliability and repeatability of the DCPD method, the crack length measured by using DCPD method was compared to one determined from unloading compliance. Consequently, this DCPD method correlated well with J-R curves and crack extension measurements determined from unloading compliance method.
