  • Titania-supported chromium oxides with different loadings have been embarked in catalytic oxidation of trichloroethylene (TCE) to inquire association of the formation of crystalline $Cr_2O_3$ with catalytic performances. A better activity in the oxidative TCE decomposition at chosen temperatures was represented when chromium oxides ($CrO_x$) had been dispersed on pure anatase-type $TiO_2$ (DT51D) rather than on phase-mixed and sulfur-contained ones such as P25 and DT51. The extent of TCE oxidation at temperatures below $350^{\circ}C$ was a strong function of $CrO_x$ content in $CrO_x$/DT51D $TiO_2$, and a noticeable point was that the catalyst has two optimal $CrO_x$ loadings in which the lowest $T_{50}$ and $T_{90}$ values were measured for the TCE oxidation. This behavior in the activity with respect to $CrO_x$ amounts could be associated with the formation of crystalline $Cr_2O_3$ on the support surface, that is less active for the oxidation reaction, and an easier mobility of the surface oxygen existing in noncrystalline $CrO_x$ species with higher oxidation states, such as $Cr_2O_8$ and $CrO_3$.

  • NaCl-induced hot corrosion behavior of ASTM T22 (Fe-2.25Cr-1Mo), T91 (Fe-9Cr-1Mo), T92 (Fe-9Cr-1.8W-0.5Mo), 347HFG (Fe-18-Cr-11Ni), and 310H (Fe-25Cr-19Ni) steels was studied after spraying NaCl on the surface. During corrosion at $600-800^{\circ}C$ for 50-100 h, thick, non-adherent, fragile, somewhat porous oxide scales formed. All the alloys corroded fast with large weight gains owing to fast scaling and destruction of protective oxide scales. Corrosion rates increased progressively as the corrosion temperature and time increased. Corrosion resistance increased in the order of T22, T91, T92, 347HFG, and 310H, suggesting that the alloying elements of Cr, Ni, and W beneficially improved the corrosion resistance of steels. Basically, Fe oxidized to $Fe_2O_3$, and Cr oxidized to $Cr_2O_3$, some of which further reacted with FeO to form $FeCr_2O_4$ or with NiO to form $NiCr_2O_4$.

  • In this study, surface analysis of Ni-Cr and Co-Cr alloys with addition of Ti and Mo for dental CAD/CAM use has been researched experimentally. The surface characteristics of the alloys were examined by Vickers hardness test, bonding strength test, surface roughness test, field-emission scanning electron microscopy, energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy, and X-ray diffraction spectroscopy. The shrinkage of the sintered Ni-Cr alloy alloy was slightly larger than that of Ni-Cr-Ti alloy, and larger than Co-Cr alloy. Also, the addition of Mo showed a tendency to decrease shrinkage somewhat. From the result of XRD analysis, NiCr, $Ni_3Cr$ and $Ni_3Ti$ were observed in the sintered Ni-13Cr-xTi and Ni-13Cr-xMo alloys. In addition, ${\sigma}-CrCo$, $Co_2Mo_3$ and $TiCo_2$ were formed in the sintered Co-Cr-xTi and Co-Cr-xMo alloys. Surface hardness of Ti and Mo added alloy was higher than those of Ni-Cr and Co-Cr alloy. The bond strength between sintered alloy and porcelain was $16.1kgf/mm^2$ for Ni-13Cr alloy, $17.8kgf/mm^2$ for Ni-13Cr-5Ti alloy, and $8.2kgf/mm^2$ for Ni-13Cr-10Ti alloy, respectively.

  • The retention of $^{51}$ Cr was studied as chromate after dissolution of irradiated ammonium chromate with reactor exposure time and various storage time at room temperature. The annealing process of ammonium chromate depending on various storage time at room temperature follows first-order kinetics from zero time value to the pseudo-equilibrium value. The retention is increased with reactor irradiation time, also following first-order kinetics.

  • Oxidative dehydrogenation of n-butane over mesoporous Cr catalysts were studied. Catalysts were prepared by Cr impregnated method over Ti or Zr dispersed mesoporous support such as SBA-15, ${\gamma}$-alumina and characterized by XRD, SEM, TEM, FT-IR UV-Vis and ICP-AES. The effect of high surface area was not noticed appreciably in terms of conversion, but for Cr catalysts with Ti and Zr-incorporated on SBA-15 and ${\gamma}$-alumina. showed high selectivity of trans-2-butene.

  • Biosorption of Pb and Cr to Sargassum sagamianum was evaluated in the various conditions. An adsorption equilibrium was reached in about 15 min. for Pb and Cr. The uptake capacity was 224.5 mg Pb/g biomass and 77.5 mg Cr/g biomass, respectively. The adsorption parameters for Pb and Cr were determined according to Langmuir and Freundlich model. Biosorption of Pb and Cr was increased with an increase in pH value. Pb and Cr adsorbed by S. sagamianum could be recovered by desorption process with 0.1M HCl, 0.1M $HNO_3$ and 0.1M EDTA and the efficiency of Pb desorption was above $90\%$, whereas the efficiency of Cr desorption was below $51\%$.

  • High specific activity $^{51}$ Cr is mainly prepared by Szilard-Chalmers process from $K_2$CrO$_4$target. Usually the recoil atom, Cr* (III), is coprecipitated with Fe(III) as a scavenger to be separated from $K_2$CrO$_4$. A new preparation method has been developed, by adding 0.1N NaOH and $C_2$H$^{5}$ OH to the irradiated target solution, to precipitate Cr* (III) without any scavenger such as Fe(III). The new method gives the product of higher specific activity and better yield than that of other methods, in the shorter processing time. This method is compared with the conventional method and the French method, and following results are obtained: the new method gives specific activity more than twice that of the conventional method and better yield than the conventional method : the French method and the new method give similar specific activity, but yield of the new method is almost twice that of the French method.
