새만금지역 갯벌 환경(패류, 저질)에서의 중금속 분포특성 (Heavy Metals in Sediments and Burrowing Bivalves (Sinonovacula constricta Lamarck) from Tidal Flats along the Saemankeum Area, Korea)

  • Heavy metal concentration/distribution in sediments and bivalves from the tidal flats in Saemankeum coastal area, western Korea, were investigated, Among 6 sampling sites, S2, S5 and S6 showed the higher levels of Zn, Cr, Ni, Cu and Cd contamination and S1 did the higher level of Pb contamination than other sites, while S-4 showed the lowest levels of these metal contamination. Overally, the levels of Zn, Cu and Pb concentrations in Sinonovacula constricta were estimated to be relatively high. The shell lengths of the collected mussels were linearly related to their dry weights of the whole soft parts, but the mussels collected from S3 were in a poor nutrition, resulting in the distinctively high levels of metal concentrations in the body. It was shown that in S. constricta, Cr, Ni, Cu and Zn are distributed equally into the whole soft parts or a little more into the flesh, after absorption, while Fe, Cd, Pb and Mn are transferred more into the non-flesh parts than into the flesh parts. In S. constricta, the heavy metal concentrations in the flesh increase with those in the whole soft parts. The bioaccumulation factors(heavy metal concentration in S. constricta/heavy metal concentration in sediment) showed that, of the examined metals, Cd is the most cumulative in the body of S. constricta, followed by Zn and Cu, while Mn, Cr, Ni and Pb are not cumulative.

Effects of Cold Rolling Parameters on Sagging Behavior for Three Layer Al-Si/Al-Mn(Zn)/Al-Si Brazing Sheets

  • The effects of intermediate annealing (IA) and the final cold rolling (CR) condition on the microstructure and sagging resistance during brazing were investigated using three layer clad sheets composed of the Al-7.5 wt.%Si alloy (filler, thickness: 10 ㎛)/Al-1.3 wt.%Mn based alloy (core, 80㎛)/Al-7.5 wt.%Si alloy (filler, 10㎛). Also, the effect of 1.2∼2 wt.% Zn addition into the core on the sagging resistance of the clad sheets was determined. It was revealed that all the clad sheets fabricated by the optimum condition (IA at 690 K and CR to 20∼45%) show excellent sagging resistance with a limited erosion due to the formation of a coarsely recrystallized grain structure in the core during brazing. It was also revealed that the recrystallization behavior of the Al-1.3 wt.%Mn based alloy is hardly affected by the addition of 1.2-2 wt.%Zn during the brazing cycle. Therefore, the sagging resistance of the clad sheets is found to be governed not by the Zn content added in the A1-1.3wt.%Mn based core, but by the intermediate annealing and final cold rolling condition.

진해만 퇴적물의 퇴적속도와 중금속 오염 (Pollution of Heavy Metals and Sedimentation Rates in Sediment Cores from the Chinhae Bay, Korea)

  • In the Chinhae Bay, Korea, sedimentation rates and sedimentary record of anthropogenic metal loads were determined by $^{210}Pb$ dating and heavy metal analysis of four sediment cores . The sedimentation rates varied from 0.16g/$cm^2$/yr(3.1mm/yr) at Sta. Ct, located within narrow waterway to 0.24g/$cm^2$/yr(4.8mm/yr) at Sta. Cl, located in Haengam Bay. Maximum contents of Mn, Zn, Cu and Cr were observed at Sta. C2 located near the mouth of Masan Bay, while minimum contents were observed at Sta. CB. Mn/Fe ratios at Sta. C2 and Sta. C4 showed gradually increasing and decreasing downward, respectively, in the upper layer of sediment cores. This suggests that Mn may be diagenetically redistributed in highly reduced environment. At Sta. C2, the concentrations of Zn and Cu began to increase from 1920s by anthropogenic input and have been remarkablely increasing since mid 1960s. At Sta. C3, located near Sungpo, anthropogenic input of these two elements has also slightly increased after 1970s. However, pollution of these two elements was not significant in Haengam Bay(Sta. Cl) and Chiljun watenway(Sta. C4). The pollution of Co, Ni and Cr was not remarkable in all core samples except surface sediment of Sta. C2. The total input of anthropogenic Zn and Cu since 1920s was estimated to be 28∼792 ㎍/cm2 and 0∼168㎍/cm2, respectively. Sta. C2 showed remarkablely higher values relative to other stations: anthropogenic loads of Zn and Cu constituted 27% and 29% of the total sedimentary inventories at the present day, respectively. Fe, Ni, Cr and Co contents showed good correlation(r>0.8) with each other. Anthropogenic Zn and Cu also showed a very good positive correlation(>0.9). However, correlation between these two group of element was quite scattered, indicating different sources and geochemical behaviors.

Spatial distribution of heavy metals in soils and groundwater at the 2000 Olympic Games site, Sydney, Australia

  • 본 연구는 시드니 포트젝슨(Port Jackson) 내 2000년 시드니올림픽사이트인 홈부시베이(Homebush Bay)를 대상으로 다양한 폐기물의 매립으로 인한 토양 및 지하수 내 중금속 원소들의 농도를 평가하기 위하여 수행되었다. 올림픽게임지역을 3개의 지역, 즉 간척지역(과거에는 강하구였으나 폐기물로 매립되어 있으며 현재는 조수간만 보다 높은 지역), 매립지역(해수면 위에 폐기물을 매립한 지역), 및 자연 상태지역(폐기물의 매립이 전혀 없었던 지역))으로 나누어 조사하였다. 토양코어시료(n=4513) 및 지하수 샘플(n=101) 내 중금속(Cr, Cu, Pb, Zn)을 분석하였다. 본 연구지역의 토양 내 중금속(Cr, Cu, Pb, Zn)의 농도는 간척지역, 매립지역 그리고 자연 상태지역의 순으로 높게 나타났지만 지하수내에서는 납(Pb)을 제외하고 매립지역, 간척지역 그리고 자연 상태지역순으로 나타났다. 올림픽게임사이트 토양 내 평균 납(Pb)의 농도는 간척지역(174 $\mu\textrm{g}$/g), 매립지역(102 $\mu\textrm{g}$/g) 그리고 자연상태지역(48 $\mu\textrm{g}$/g)의 순으로 나타났으며 그 결과 본 연구지역 토양내 중금속의 분산은 농집된 중금속 농도와 매립된 폐기물의 존재와 밀접한 관련이 있음을 나타냈다. 그러나 올림픽 사이트 내 이질적인 폐기물의 매립으로 인하여 토양과 지하수 내 중금속농도의 상관관계를 규명할 수는 없었다.

  • The stochiometric mixture of evaporating materials for the $ZnIn_2S_4$ single crystal thin film was prepared from horizontal furnace. To obtain the $ZnIn_2S_4$ single crystal thin film. $ZnIn_2S_4$ mixed crystal was deposited on throughly etched semi-insulating GaAs(100). In the Hot Wall Epitaxy(HWE) system. From the photocurrent spectrum by illumination of perpendicular light on the c-axis of the $ZnIn_2S_4$ single crystal thin film, we have found that the values of spin orbit splitting ${\Delta}So$ and the crystal field splitting ${\Delta}Cr$ were 0.0148 eV and 0.1678 eV at $10_{\circ}K$, respectively.

Reduction of eco-toxicity risk of heavy metals in the rotary drum composting of water hyacinth: Waste lime application and mechanisms

  • Experiments were conducted on the immobilization of eight heavy metals (HMs) (Zn, Cu, Mn, Fe, Ni, Pb, Cd, and Cr) during 20-day rotary drum composting of water hyacinth. The Tessier sequential extraction procedure was used to investigate the fractionation of HMs. The eco-toxicity risk of HMs was assessed by risk assessment code (RAC). In the results, the bioavailability factor (BAF) for different HMs presented in the following order: Mn > Zn = Fe > Cu > Cr > Cd = Pb > Ni. The total concentration of Pb was higher than that of Zn, Cu, Mn, Cd and Cr; however, its BAF was the lowest among these HMs. These results confirmed that the eco-toxicity of HMs depends on bioavailable fractions rather than on the total concentration. The greatest reduction in bioavailability and eco-toxicity risk of HMs occurred in lime 1% and 2% as compared to control and lime 3%. The eco-toxicity risk of Fe, Ni, Pb, Cd and Cr was reduced from low risk to zero risk by rotary drum composting. These studies demonstrated the high efficiency of the rotary drum for degrading compost materials and for reducing the bioavailability and eco-toxicity risk of HMs during the composting process.

시화호 유역 하천 퇴적물에서의 중금속 오염도 평가에 관한 연구 (Sediment Quality Assessment for Heavy Metals in Streams Around the Shihwa Lake)

  • 본 연구에서는 시화호 유역 하천퇴적물 내 중금속의 시 공간적인 분포 특성을 조사하였으며 다양한 오염지수를 활용하여 오염도 및 위해 영향을 평가하였다. 조사지역별로 살펴보면 1간선수로(S1)에서는 Co, Zn 및 Cd이 최대농도를 보였으며, 2간선수로(S2)와 3간선수로(S3)는 각각 Ni과 As, 4간선수로(S4)는 Cr, Cu, Pb 및 Hg이 최대농도를 나타내고 있어 조사지역에 따라 오염되는 중금속 원소가 다른 특성을 보였다. 산업지역 내 하천에서의 중금속 농도가 농업/도심지역에 비해 3.3(Co)~83(Cu)배 높은 결과를 보였다. 농집지수(Igeo)를 통한 각각의 중금속 원소의 오염도 평가는 Cd과 Cu는 highly polluted, Zn, Pb은 moderately to highly polluted의 오염상태를 나타냈다. 본 연구에서 분석된 중금속을 종합적으로 고려한 오염부하지수(PLI)는 산업지역이 10.5로 심각한 오염상태였으며, 농업/도심지역은 오염되지 않은 것으로 나타났고, 하계조사시기가 다른 조사시기에 비해 상대적으로 오염된 결과를 보였다. 퇴적물 기준과의 비교를 통하여 산업지역 내 하천은 Cr, Ni, Cu, Zn 및 Pb의 85%가 PEL을 초과하는 것을 알 수 있었다. mPELQ와 SQI를 통하여 퇴적물 내 중금속의 종합적인 오염도 및 위해 영향을 고찰한 결과, 산업지역 내 하천퇴적물은 독성 영향이 크며 매우 나쁨(very poor)에 해당되는 오염상태를 보였으며, 하계 조사시기에 오염도가 심해지는 경향을 나타내었다.

Adsorption Characteristics of Heavy Metals by Various Forest Humic Substances

  • Various forest humic substances were collected at different climate regions with different forest types, and adsorption of heavy metals such as Cu(II), Zn(II), Cd(II) and Cr(III) were characteristically conducted to obtain optimal adsorption conditions and to evaluate the removal efficiency of heavy metals by each forest humic substance. The adsorption isotherms for Cu(II), Zn(II), Cd(II) and Cr(III) conformed to Langmuir's equation. In the stirred reactor, the removal efficiencies of Cu(II), Zn(II) and Cd(II) by forest humic substances were more than 90% but that of Cr(III) was less than 60%. The adsorption capacities of heavy metals in the stirred reactor were considerably varied depending on the type of forest humic substances. Among humic substances, the one from deciduous forest at subtropical region showed the highest removal efficiency for Cu(II). There was no significant difference in removal efficiency by each heavy metal depending on reaction temperature ranged from 20 to 50oC except for Cr(III), and the adsorptions of Cu(II), Zn(II) and Cd(II) were occurred rapidly in the incipient stage within 10 min, while Cr(III) needed more reaction time to be adsorbed. The stirred and packed bed column reactors showed similar adsorption characteristics of heavy metals by humic substances, but the removal efficiency was considerably higher in the packed bed column reactor than in the stirred reactor. Therefore, in actual operation process, a continuous packed bed column reactor was more economical.

Chlorella vulgaris의 흡광도, 클로로필 및 개체수 통합 영향에 근거한 중금속 및 나노입자 독성 조사 (Toxicity Evaluation of Metals and Metal-oxide Nanoparticles based on the Absorbance, Chlorophyll Content, and Cell Count of Chlorella vulgaris)

  • 본 연구에서는 중금속 7종(Cu, Cd, Cr, As(III), As(V), Zn, Ni) 및 나노입자 5종(CuO, ZnO, NiO, $TiO_2$, $Fe_2O_3$)에 대한 독성을 수계 대표 생물종인 녹조류 Chlorella vulgaris를 이용한 생물검정법으로 평가하였다. 조류에 미치는 영향은 흡광도, 클로로필 및 개체수 측정에 대한 결과를 통합하여 평가하였다. 중금속의 통합결과독성($TEC_{50}$) 순서는 Cr ($0.7mgL^{-1}$) > Cu ($1.7mgL^{-1}$) > Cd ($3.2mgL^{-1}$) > Zn ($3.9mgL^{-1}$) > Ni ($13.2mgL^{-1}$) > As(III) ($17.8mgL^{-1}$) ${\gg}$ As(V) (> $1000mgL^{-1}$)로 나타났다. 중금속은 측정종말점에 따라 일부 상이한 민감도와 독성이 조사되었다. 나노입자의 독성($TEC_{50}$) 순서는 ZnO ($2.4mgL^{-1}$) > NiO ($21.1mgL^{-1}$) > CuO ($36.6mgL^{-1}$) > $TiO_2$ ($62.5mgL^{-1}$) > $Fe_2O_3$ ($82.7mgL^{-1}$)로 나타났다. 나노입자는 측정종말점간에 비슷한 민감도와 독성을 보였다. 따라서 오염물의 독성을 평가하기 위해서 단일 방법에 의한 결과보다는 다양한 측정종말점의 통합결과에 근거한 접근이 적절할 것이다.
