  • This study estimates the total health expenditure of ambulatory dental care and explores the factors related to disbursements. The study used two waves of a 2008 Korea Health Panel (KHP) survey, of which each wave is composed of 7866 households and 24,659 persons. The KHP includes missing expanses of reimbursement data of the National Health Insurance (NHI), such as out-of-pocket, drugs, and private health insurance. The study estimates total monthly ambulatory dental expenditure and the sub-special categories of dental care. For influential factors analyses, the study exploits log-linear model with age, gender, education, job, equivalence income, the status of chronic diseases, means-tested benefit recipients, private insurance, and the composite deprivation index as independent variables. The total monthly outpatient health spending is estimated to be 102,468 won per household, and for dental, each household spends 31,115 won per month. Older age, means-test recipients, non-regular workers are more likely to spend less money on dental care, whereas private insurers, high income, and those who live in less deprived areas are more likely to spend more money for dental services. From the study we found that the KHP data are more suitable to estimate the total amount of health care markets, especially when the NHI coverage is low, such as for dental care in Korea.

  • The diversity of observed hydrologic data and the development of geographic information system leads significant progress for developing distributed runoff models in the world. One of the typical examples is TOPMODEL, but the spatial coverage of its application Is limited on small headwater basins. The purpose of this study attempts to overcome its limitation and consequently develops a semi-distributed TOPMODEL. The developed model is composed of two components: a watershed runoff component for a lumped representation of hydrologic runoff process on the catchment scale and a kinematic wave type hydraulic channel routing component lot routing the catchment outflows. The application basin is the $2,703km^2$ upper Soyang dam site and several daily and hourly events are selected for model calibrations and verifications. The model parameters are estimated on 1990 daily event. The model performance on correlation coefficient between observed and computed flows are above 0.90 for the verification events. It is concluded that the developed model in this study can be used for flood analysis in large drainage basins.

  • This study was conducted to clarify the characteristics of habitat structure and bird communities between natural deciduous forest and around the road from October 2005 to August 2006 in the National Arboretum, Gwangneung, Korea. There were more larger trees and higher coverage of crown canopy in the natural deciduous forest than around the road. A total thirty seven species of birds were observed in the natural deciduous forest and twenty species were around road. The observed number of bird species and individuals, and bird species diversity index (H') were higher in the natural deciduous forest in each season. Foraging and nesting guild structures were also different. The differences of characteristics of bird communities would be related with habitat structure between both study areas.

  • The forest vegetation on Mt. Ch’ongnyang was investigated for phytosociological analysis of the vegetation types and interspecific association. The forest was classified into seven vegetation units; A: Quercus Mongolica community, A-1: Group of Quercus variabilis, A-1-a: Subgroup of Pinus densiflora, A-1-b: Typical subgroup, A-2: Group of Aconitum trilobum, A-3: Group of Quercus dentata, B: Zelkova serrata communty. The group of Quercus variabilis was distributed on southeast- and southwest-facing slopes in 400~830 m above the sea level, and organic matter in the soil was 3.36~4.67%. The group of Aconitum trilobum was distributed on northeast- and northwest-facing slopes in 650~830 m above the sea level, and organic matter in the soil was 7.18%. The group of Quercus dentata was distributed on southwest-facing solpes in the vicinity of 810 m above the sea level, and organic matter in the soil was 9.7%. The Zelkova serrata community was distributed in the vicinity of ravines, and organic matter in the soil was 7.6%. The contents of Mg and Ca, and electric conductivity in the Zelkova serrata community were relatively high, 11.82 me/100mg, and 11.27 me/100mg, 102.2 μ mos/cm, respectively. In the results of polar ordination, environmental gradient of axis Ⅰ and axis Ⅱwere correlated with moisture, inclination and azimuth, respectively. Group of Quercus variabilis has occurred in xeric, group of Aconitum trilobum in submesic, and the Zelrova serrata community in mesic sites. In the meantime the interspecific association analysis based on chi-square yielded three species groupings with high positive affinity(p<0.01), i.e.group Ⅰ consisted of 18 species, including Acer pseudo-sieboldianum, Ansliaea acerifolia, Aconitum trilobum and group Ⅲ consisted of 19 species, in cluding Zelrova serrata, Oplismenus undulatifolius, Acer truncatum var. barbinerve, respectively.

  • In order to clarify the successional trend and its characteristics of plant community in abandoned field in Cheju Island, we investigated the seral changes of vegetation height, coverage, growth form, species richness, diversity and dominance index along with the time lapse, and then compared with those of mainland researches. And in order to seek the overall trend of vegetation changes, we used cluster, TWINSPAN and PCA ordination techniques. The succession was characterized by the lower species number, lower vegetation height, longer period of herb dominant and later invasion of tree species. These results may come from that ecological traits of Cheju Island itself, and ecosystem fragmented influences that block a seed (propagule) transport. Sere of the dominant species was shown as follows: Mazus japonicus(0.5∼1 years)→Conyza sumatrensis (2 years)→Artemisia princeps var. orientalis(4 years)→Artemisia princeps var. orientalis, indigofera pseudotinctoria(5 years)→Rosa multiflora, Miscanthus sinensis, etc.(8 years)→Miscanthus sinensis(12 years)→Boehmeria nivea, Pueraria thunbergiana etc.(15 years)→Mallotus japonicus(20 years)→Litsea japonica, Machilus thunbergii (20 years<). Abandoned fields were classified into three groups according to time lapse; earlier stage(0∼1 years), middle stage(2∼8 years) and later stage(8∼20 years).

  • This study was carried out to clarify the syntaxonomy of the pine forest in Youngdong region by the phytosociological methods. As a result of the investigation of 62 quadrats, Pinus densiflora forest was classified into four subassociations: Typical subassociation, Quercus mongolica subassociation, Rhododendron mucronulatum subassociation, Rhus chinensis subassociation. Many differences in ecological characteristics such as species composition, stratum structure, vegetation coverage and of diameter at breast height(DBH) of class distribution were found among the communities. Soil properties of the pine forest on the study area was relatively poor compared with other pine forests, especially, soil pH was strongly acidic with 4.87. Soil conditions among the subassociations appeared different. Future succession of pine forest by the similarity index of communities was proposed. Estimated degree of green naturality for Typical subassociation and Q. mongolica subassociation correspond to 7th grade, and R. mucronulatum subassociation, 8-1st grade, and R. chinensis subassociation, 8-2nd grade.

  • Solar System has evolved with numerous collisions among asteroids. Ancient catastrophic collisions of large parent bodies led the formation of asteroid families and relevant dustband structures up to the present day, and it would be interesting to address a question - "what happens if an asteroid collides with another asteroid?" Recent discoveries of "active asteroids" in the main-belt have attracted interest for their potential to witness a catastrophic collision in the current Solar System. So far, however, there is no direct evidence for catastrophic collision on active asteroids while several objects have been confirmed for other mechanisms (e.g., 596 Scheila for impact cratering, P/2013 R3 and P/2013 P5 for rotational breakup). The most potential candidate for catastrophic collision could be a sub-km active asteroid P/2010 A2, which is still controversial on its driving mechanism, but if confirmed, would have made P/2010 A2 the unique example of catastrophic collision on the current main asteroid belt. In this presentation, we revisit all of archival data of P/2010 A2 in a combination with our own observation using Subaru/Suprime-Cam on 2011 June, where we have a great benefit of a large orbital coverage. We found a grain size dependence of dust ejection velocity from P/2010 A2 (a power-law size distribution with an index of k~ -1/10), which is favorable to a catastrophic disruption scenario in agreement with laboratory impact experiments. At this conference, we plan to provide our understanding of the morphology of P/2010 A2 through a perspective of catastrophic collision.

  • Background: Although hyperspectral imaging was originally introduced for military, remote sensing, and astrophysics applications, the use of analytical hyperspectral imaging techniques has been expanded to include monitoring of agricultural crops and commodities due to the broad range and highly specific and sensitive spectral information that can be acquired. Combining hyperspectral imaging with remote sensing expands the range of targets that can be analyzed. Results: Hyperspectral imaging technology can rapidly provide data suitable for monitoring a wide range of plant conditions such as plant stress, nitrogen status, infections, maturity index, and weed discrimination very rapidly, and its use in remote sensing allows for fast spatial coverage. Conclusions: This paper reviews current research on and potential applications of hyperspectral imaging and remote sensing for outdoor field monitoring of agricultural crops. The instrumentation and the fundamental concepts and approaches of hyperspectral imaging and remote sensing for agriculture are presented, along with more recent developments in agricultural monitoring applications. Also discussed are the challenges and limitations of outdoor applications of hyperspectral imaging technology such as illumination conditions and variations due to leaf and plant orientation.

  • This study aimed to clarify the influencing factors of the mesopore ratio on a pore geometry of surface soil in mixed stands as an index of the water retention capacity. Twenty four factors including site conditions and soil properties were analyzed by spss/pc+ for the data collected from during March to October of 1995. The factors influencing the mesopore ratio(pF2.7) on the surface soil were as follows; mesopore ratio(pF2.7) on the B horizon soil, under vegetation coverage, organic matter contents of surface soil and F layer depth. And influencing factor on the ratio of mesopore in the soil surface was correlated with surface soil hardness and depth of 10cm soil hardness shows high negative significance. Also, multiple regression equations for mesopore ratio of the mesopore ratio of B horizon soil and organic matter contents shows high significance($R^2$; 0.84).
