  • Luminescent patterns of the firefly Hotaria papariensis were classified into routine flashing and courtship flashing, and they were analyzed into duration and period. Flash period of male was changed from 1.26 sec (routine flashing) to 1.12 sec (courtship flashing) and the female's was changed from 2.99 sec to 1.06 sec in this species. Duration time of male increased approximately 1.4-fold from 0.12 sec (routine flashing) to 0.17 sec (courtship flashing) and period of male decreased 0.88-fold from 1.26 sec (routine flashing) to 1.12 sec (courtship flashing). Duration of female increased about 1.5-fold from 0.15. sec (routine flashing) to 0.19 sec (courtship flashing) and period of female decreased almost 0.35 from 2.99 sec (routine flashing) to 1.06 sec (courtship flashing). Hertz frequencies of them were 0.8 (routine flashing of male), 0.9 (courtship flashing of male), 0.3 (routine flashing of female) and 0.9 (courtship flashing of female), respectively. The spectral emission of H. papariensis was detected at 400 nm to 700 nm, and the highest peak wave length of this species was approximately 600 nm, but some 500 to 600 nm wave lengths were present.

  • This study aimed to investigate the determinants of confidence in courtship and marriage, childbirth and parenting of the unmarried employed of the echo boomers born between 1982-1992, using data from the 19th wave of the nationwide Korea Labor and Income Panel Study. The differences of confidence in courtship, marriage, childbirth, and parenting of the echo boomers according to sociodemographic variables, psychosocial variables, workplace related variables were examined and multiple regression analysis was conducted in order to identify the factors that affect the confidence in courtship and marriage, childbirth and parenting. The results were as follows: The level of confidence in courtship and marriage, childbirth and parenting showed a statistically significant difference depending upon socioeconomic status and psychosocial variables. However, among the workplace related variables, other than childbirth and parenting within the job satisfaction category, all other variables showed a statistically significant difference. In addition, as the determining factors affecting all issues of courtship, marriage, childbirth, and parenting, youth perceptions of Korean society revealed to be the most influential factor, followed by social support and organizational commitment.

  • The object of this study is to differentiate the reproductive behaviors of Pungitius sinensis and P. kaibarae inhabiting the southern part of the Korean Peninsula. We collected P. sinensis from Jusu stream, Okkyemyeon and P. kaibarae from Sacheon stream, Sacheon-myeon both in Gangwon province and subsequently raised and observed them in an aquarium. At the beginning of the reproductive season, male P. sinensis got tinged with dark green, made a territory, and built nests on the bottom. On the other hand, male P. kaibarae became black all over, its white ventral spines became conspicuous and built nests on the stems of waterweed off the bottom. In the courtship dance, male P. sinensis made frequent attempts to entice females into their nests after many bitings, while male P. kaibarae mostly did this with conspicuous jumpings. In courtship behaviors, the body's angle of male P. kaibarae with his head down was larger than that of male P. sinensis by 50-60 degrees. During courtship, the biting frequency as an index of aggressive behavior was greater in P. sinensis and the jumping frequency as an index of sexual behavior was greater in P. kaibarae. During the courtship dance, bitings tended to suppress jumpings, for P. sinensis, but not for P. kaibarae.

  • This study aimed to understand social interactions by observing the courtship and attack behavior between individuals of 15 (6 females and 9 males) Reeves' turtle (Mauremys reevesii) in captivity in the Wolchulsan National Park. CCTV was installed in the study area from May 18, 2020 to October 19, 2020 and recorded 3 days a week (24 hours/day) for a total of 64 days and analyzed at intervals of 10 minutes per hour. Male turtle courtship was observed 884 times in total, with the heaviest females receiving the highest courtship frequency (357 times) and the smallest females receiving the least courtship (3 times). Of a total of observed 259 aggressive behaviors, 30 were for female to female, 81 for male to male, and 148 for female to male. Dominance hierarchy identified based on the result ranked females higher overall than males, and the larger the body, the higher the ranking. This study was the first in Korea to confirm individuals with high probability of reproduction through the frequency of courtship in the Reeves' turtle and investigate dominance hierarchy according to attack behavior. Our results can be used as reference behavioral data for managing and protecting the endangered Reeves' turtles and will help us understand their social structure.

  • Courtship behavior of the sweet potato leaf worm, Aedia leucomelas L. (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae) was observed under laboratory condition. Behavior of antennal Probing and wing fanning in presence of opposite sex was observed in dark room. Both male and female exhibited similar behavior, fanning wing and raising antenna before male flew toward female. Some of moths began raising antenna 20 minutes into scotophase, and 20 minutes later both sexes started to exhibit spectacular behavior, fanning the wings intermittently in high frequency as if producing sound for attracting opposite sexes. They began mating about one day after emergence and mating activity was peaked from 4 to 6 days after emergence. Multiple mating was observed and the copulation lasted 207 minutes in average. There was an evidence that female emit sexual communication signal and male respond to it, and it seemed that the sound production is possibly a part of the courtship behavior of sweet potato leaf worm.

  • This paper investigates the meaning and methods of analysis in courtship & marriage narratives songs using the analysed data as the base work for establishing songs using the analysed data as the base work for establishing the digital archive of Korean narrative songs. Initially, this paper presents some samples of the archiving data : types, narrative paragraphs, theme words and outlines of narratives analyzed from 386 versions of courtship & marriage narrative songs in The Comprehensive Collection of Korean Folklore for the purpose of establishing the Korean narrative songs digital archive. Especially, these include specifications of theme words and sequences of narrative paragraphs to look into the syntagmatic and paradigmatic relationship aspects of narrative songs. This archiving method has the advantages of being able to suggest not only the general aspects of the narrative songs, but also the specific in theme words of narrative paragraphs, while the conventional archives are limited to type classification or title search. Therefore, this method overcomes disadvantages that the conventional archives cannot reveal the narrative characteristic or difference which each version has. Subsequently, this paper examines the gender differences, frequency of theme words and comparison of theme words in the related types and the meanings of the analysis examples to find the utility value of the digital archiving data of 'courtship & marriage' narrative songs. The results are as follows; The main recipients of 'courtship and marriage' narrative songs are women, they deal with unusual and shocking events such as 'affairs' or 'death'. Women express their real sufferings and consciousness in the process of courtship and marriage through singing 'courtship & marriage' narrative songs. On the contrary, men mostly focus on the inadequate relationship between unmarried couples and reveal their enjoyment. It will be necessary to expand the scope of this study to clarify the interacting aspects with other narrative genres beyond narrative songs. Therefore, more consistent research efforts are required for this clarification to be satisfactory obtained.

  • Sexual behavior and reproductivity of male fIsh were studied as an in vivo screening method of endocrine disruptors. Male medaka (Oryzias latipes) were exposed to 17$\beta$-estradiol at nominal concentrations of 2 and 20 $\mu\textrm{g}$/l for 14 days. After exposure of the chemical, sexual behavior between male medaka and normal female which were injected with prostaglandin $F_{2\alpha}$ just before the test, was analysed by using video camera for one hour. Normal control male showed courtship dancing such as following, guarding, dancing and crossing while 17$\beta$-estradiol treated male did not show any type oj courtship dancing. Furthermore, fecundity and fertility were significantly decreased in the treated group. It was suggested that analysis of sexual behavior could be a useful endpoint for the screening of the endocrine disruptors.
