  • Along with the logistics development, heavy-loaded warehouses and sales facilities tend to be bigger and designed as a PC structures. PC erection work of heavy-loaded structures is influenced by various factors, including the required construction duration, site and surrounding situations, safety, PC member procurement, equipment rental cost, which ultimately impact the construction cost. It requires creative efforts and a lot of time when preparing an erection plan in consideration of these factors, and the plan prepared has a great influence on safety as well as the construction duration and cost. However, many engineers do not have enough experiences on PC erection work of heavy-loaded, long span structures, making it difficult for them to set erection plans and establish simulations. The study's results will provide a knowledge to obtain a solution for engineers to establish PC erection plans of heavy-loaded, long span structures.

  • Construction project consists of several stages such as planning, design, construction, operation/maintain, etc. Decisions made in the planning and design stage have a significant impact on the construction and operation/maintain stages. Identifying key resources contributing to duration and cost of design alternatives is an important measure to achieve effective coordination between design and construction. This study proposes a method which finds an optimal design alternative by taking into account of resource planning, expected duration, and cost in construction stage. Base on literature review relative to the assessment of design alternatives, a method which predicts required resources, duration, and cost of the design alternative is established. Then, a method that identifies an optimal design alternative based on the preference of a certain project criteria is developed. Finally, a case study is presented.

  • This paper describes a novel approach for allocating transmission costs among users of transmission services. In the suggested approach, the cost share of each participant is proportional to amount of its line flow. To develop individual user's impact, the line utilization factors of each participant are derived by power flow equations of all nodes (i.e., load-flow equations). To deal With the slack bus problem inherent in the conventional load-flow analysis more practically, a additional power supply/demand balance equation is incorporated. Although the developed allocation rule is basically similar to the existing MW-mile method in the aspect of embedded cost allocation, it does not require to get load flow solutions of each wheeling transaction when multiple transmission transactions are considered.

  • In the design of modern computer systems, the speed gap between the CPUs and DRAMs has been a major concern. To relieve this problem at a low cost, several new DRAM architectures have been proposed. This study is aimed at evaluating quantitatively the impact of the new DRAM architectures (synchronous DRAM. dual-RAS synchronous DRAM, and enhanced DRAM) on the memory system performance. We developed a cache and memory simulator and performed various experiments using the traces generated from four benchmark programs. The simulation results show that the new DRAM architectures offer a better performance than a conventional one by 5~30% in a low cost system and their improvement in a high performance system is less than 1%. However, for resonable multiprogramming workoads, additional performance improvement of about 10~28% is expected in a high performance system while 1~3% in a low cost system.

  • In the automobile industry, structural health monitoring of fiber reinforced polymer composite parts is a widespread need for maintenance before breakdown of the functional elements or a complete vehicle. High performance sensors are generally used in many of the structural health monitoring operations. Within this study, a carbon fiber sewing thread has been used as a low cost laminate failure sensing element. The experimentation plan was set up according to the electrical conductance and flexibility of carbon fiber threads, advantages of preforming operations, and sewing mechanisms. The influence of the single thread damages by changing the electrical resistance and monitoring the impact location by using carbon thread sensors has been performed. Innovative utilization of relatively cost-effective carbon threads for monitoring the delamination of metallic inserts from the basic composite laminate structure is a highlighting feature of this study.

  • Warranty cost analysis for one-dimensional warranties assumes that the usage intensity (or rate) is the same for all buyers. In real life the usage intensity varies across the population of buyers. Also for products sold with warranty, preventive maintenance actions by manufacturers and buyers have a significant impact on the total costs for both parties. In this paper we deals with models to study the expected warranty cost for products with free repairable warranty with varying usage intensity and three types of preventive maintenance. We also review the literature which links warranty and maintenance and develops a framework to define new topics for research in the future and examines a new model formulation. It then develops a new model and carries out its analysis.

  • Considering the role of a financial analyst that directly affects investors as an information mediator, management's decision to disclose to maximize corporate value will have an important impact on investors as well. On the other hand, whether or not managers vary the level of disclosure depending on the corporate form will have great implications for policy authorities. However, there is no domestic research on the relationship between the corporate form and the quality of voluntary disclosure. Our study shows that the corporate form tends to deepen the negative relationship between the proprietary information cost and the quality of disclosure. Examining whether the relationship between proprietary information cost and management disclosure decision making is valid for domestic companies is expected to provide meaningful implications for investors and regulators. Depending on the corporate form, if an entity makes a discriminatory disclosure, the cost of capital will be affected. A more in-depth follow-up study on this should be done.

  • Drones are increasingly used in logistics delivery due to their low cost, high-speed and straight-line flight. Considering the small cargo capacity, limited endurance and other factors, this paper optimized the pickup and delivery vehicle routing problem with time windows in the mode of "truck+drone". A mixed integer programming model with the objective of minimizing transportation cost was proposed and an improved adaptive large neighborhood search algorithm is designed to solve the problem. In this algorithm, the performance of the algorithm is improved by designing various efficient destroy operators and repair operators based on the characteristics of the model and introducing a simulated annealing strategy to avoid falling into local optimum solutions. The effectiveness of the model and the algorithm is verified through the numerical experiments, and the impact of the "truck+drone" on the route cost is analyzed, the result of this study provides a decision basis for the route planning of "truck+drone" mode delivery.

  • Purpose - Using a sample of Korean multinational corporations, we examine whether the relationship between tax risk and the implied cost of capital discriminates between the environmental, social, and corporate governance (ESG) of highly rated firms. Design/methodology - Firms with high tax risks have an increased uncertainty of future cash flows. Therefore, as the volatility of future cash flow increases, information asymmetry and the required return increases. Highly rated ESG firms can reduce information asymmetry, thereby weakening the positive relationship between tax risk and cost of capital. We employ the standard deviation of the cash effective tax rate as proxy of tax risk. We utilize the ESG rating data of the Korea Corporate Governance Service (KCGS). We use a PEG model, MPEG model, and GM model to measure the implied cost of capital. Findings - We find a positive association between the implied cost of capital and tax risk. The positive relationship between tax risk and the implied cost of capital weakens in highly rated ESG firms. Highly rated ESG firms prefer a stable tax position to invest after-tax cash flows into sustainable management. Therefore, the negative effects of tax risk on cost of capital can be reduced. Originality/value - This study provides empirical evidence that ESG activities can mitigate the negative impact of tax risk on the cost of capital for Korean multinational corporations. In a business environment where ESG activities are more important, the empirical results that ESG activities can reduce the corporate risk of Korean FDI companies are expected to provide implications for the ESG activities of multinational corporations.
