쑥으로부터 유래된 나노입자의 화장품 제품 응용 (Application of Nanoparticles Derived from Artemisia princeps for Cosmetic Products)

  • 나노입자(nanoparticles)는 그 크기가 피부를 구성하는 세포보다 작다. 따라서 세포막을 통과하고 약물 또는 유전자를 전달하는 매개체로서의 역할에 매우 적합하며 특정 성분을 피부 속에 전달할 수도 있다. 본 연구에서는 쑥으로부터 나노입자를 추출하여 dynamic light scattering (DLS)를 통해 100 nm 전후 크기의 입자를 얻었음을 확인하였고, MTT assay를 통하여 섬유아세포에서 cell viability를 농도 의존적으로 증진시키는 결과를 얻었다. 또한, quantitative real time PCR 분석법을 통해서 COL1A1 mRNA 발현량을 증가시키고 IL-6 mRNA 발현량은 감소시킴을 확인하였다. 세포실험뿐 아니라 화장품 제형에서도 적용 가능하며, 안정함을 확인하였다. 최근 화장품 산업 동향에서 화학 성분을 배제하고 식물 유래 성분 수요가 지속적으로 높아지고 있는 반면, 식물에서 유래된 나노입자의 응용분야를 제시하는 연구 결과가 거의 없다는 한계가 있다. 따라서 현시점에서의 화장품 산업의 한계점을 극복하고자 본 연구를 통해 얻은 결과를 견주어 쑥으로부터 유래된 나노입자를 고기능성 화장품 소재로서 제시하고자 한다.

  • Background: The aim of this study was to analyze the total phenol and total flavonoid contents and antioxidant activity of steam-treated leaves and rhizomes of Polygonatum sibiricum Redoute. In addition, we aimed to confirm their potential use as cosmetic materials by investigating their anti-aging and skin-whitening activity. Methods and Results: The leaves and rhizomes of P. sibiricum were treated with steam at different temperatures for different durations, and the antioxidant activity (DPPH and ABTS radical scavenging activity) and total phenol and total flavonoid contents of each sample were tested. The steam temperature and treatment duration siginificantly affected the antioxidant activity and, total phenol and total flavonoid content of the leaves and rhizome of P. sibiricum. Treating the P. sibiricum samples with steam at 120℃ for 12 h, yielded higher total phenol and total flavonoid contents. Comparatively, the samples treated with steam at 120℃ for 12 to 24 h showed significantly higher antioxidant activity. Further, the steamed samples of P. sibiricum demonstrated collagenase and tyrosinase inhibition activity, which indicated their anti-aging and skin-whitening properties. The samples steamed at 120℃ for 12 h, exhibited higher collagenase and tyrosinase inhibition activity. Conclusions: Leaves and rhizomes of P. sibiricum steamed at 120℃ for 12 h, showed highest antioxidant activity and, total phenol and total flavonoid contents than all other samples. Our results indicate the potential of using P. sibiricum as a cosmetic material by confirming its excellent anti-aging and whitening activity.

니파야자(Nypa fruticans Wurmb) 싹 추출물 및 분획물의 항산화, 세포 보호 및 항균 효과에 관한 평가 (Evaluation of Antioxidant, Cytoprotective and Antimicrobial Activities of the Extract and Fractions Obtained from Young Shoots of Nypa Fruticans Wurmb)

  • Nypa fruticans Wurmb is a species of palm, which is widely distributed in the mangrove forest of Southeast Asia. Various parts of N. fruticans has been used as a traditional medicinal plant. However, the physiological activities of N. fruticans has not yet been clarified well. Therefore, in this study, the 50% ethanol extract and its aqueous and ethyl acetate fractions of young shoots of N. fruticans were investigated for their antioxidant, cytoprotective effect, and antimicrobial activities. Every sample possessed very high free radical and various ROS scavenging capacities assessed by employing different in vitro assays such as $DPPH^{\cdot}$, $O_2^{{\cdot}-}$, ${\cdot}OH$, and $^1O_2$ scavenging activities. Based on these results, the cytoprotective effect was investigated using the oxidative hemolysis of erythrocyte. We found that the extract and fractions provide a greater protective effect compared with (+)-${\alpha}$-tocopherol. Furthermore, antimicrobial activities were confirmed against skin pathogens by broth microdilution assay. The ethyl acetate fraction had much higher antimicrobial activities than methyl paraben against Staphylococcus aureus, Bacillus subtilis, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, and Candida albicans. Taken together, our results indicated that the young shoots of N. fruticans may have the potential role as a natural active ingredient through their antioxidant, cytoprotective effect, and antimicrobial activities.

브랜드 가치 유형과 카피 유형에 따른 광고제작 전략: 화장품 브랜드를 중심으로 (Ad Production Strategies According to Brand Value and Copy Type: Focusing on Cosmetic Brands)

  • 본 연구는 화장품 브랜드의 가치 유형에 따라 가장 효과적인 광고 카피 전략을 제시하고자 하였다. 이를 위해 3(브랜드가치)×3(카피유형) 요인설계를 사용하여 실험연구를 진행하였다. 연구결과 첫째, 럭셔리 브랜드의 경우, 독백형 카피가 가장 광고효과(광고태도와 구매의도)가 높게 나타났다. 둘째, 프리미엄 브랜드의 경우, 권유형 카피가 가장 광고태도가 높게 나타났다. 그러나 구매의도에서는 유의미한 차이가 없었다. 셋째, 매스 브랜드의 경우 대화형 카피가 가장 광고효과(광고태도와 구매의도)가 높게 나타났다. 이러한 결과는 화장품 브랜드의 가치 유형에 따라 카피를 유형을 차별화하여 사용하는 것이 효과적이라는 이론적 근거를 제공하였으며, 화장품 광고를 제작하는 실무자에게 카피 전략에 활용될 것이다.

유화제의 HLB에 따른 O/W 및 W/S 에멀젼의 유화 안정성에 관한 연구 (A Study on Emulsion Stability of O/W and W/S Emulsion according to HLB of Emulsifier)

  • 본 연구에서는 친수성 계면활성제와 친유성 계면활성제가 조합된 다양한 HLB (Hydrophilic Lipophilic Balance) 값을 갖는 유화 시스템의 조건에서, required HLB 값이 각기 다른 오일들을 적용하여 제조한 O/W 및 W/S 에멀젼들의 특성 및 유화 안정성을 조사해 보았다. 그 결과 O/W 에멀젼은 유화제의 HLB 값이 낮을수록 점도가 높고, 유화입자는 작고 조밀한 경향을 나타내었으며, 원심분리에서도 더 안정한 경향을 나타내었다. W/S 에멀젼은 유화제의 HLB 값이 높을수록 유화입자는 작고 조밀해지는 경향을 나타내었으며, 원심분리에서도 더 안정한 경향을 나타내었다. 그러나 W/S 에멀젼은 시간이 경과할수록 모든 유화제의 HLB 조건에서 점도가 낮아지는 경향이 나타나 장기 안정도에서는 불안정한 특성을 나타내었다. 이번 연구의 결과는 O/W 에멀젼은 HLB 값이 높은 비이온 계면활성제의 적용이 적합하며 W/S 에멀젼은 HLB 값이 낮은 비이온 계면활성제의 적용이 적합하다는 기본 이론과 상반되는 결과로서 앞으로의 화장품 연구 개발 시 유용한 연구 자료가 될 것으로 사료된다.

CLINICALI MPROVEMENT OF SKIN AGING BY RETINOL CONTAINING PRODUCTS: WITH NON- INVASIVE METHODS

  • Retinol as well as RA is well known to have many beneficial effects on aged skin. But the skin irritation potential and unstable condition of the products containing them have been some problems in their cosmetic uses. So, retinol containing gel product was developed for less skin irritancy and more stability in cosmetic products. To examine the clinical effects of retinlo containing product, we used cilnicla non-invasive assessment techniques on 40 volunteers for 6 months maintaining double-blind test conditions. According to our results, the use of retinol containing product improved skin color and hydration level slightly. But there was no statistical differences. There was no erythema reaction compared to the use of RA. Especially, the skin elasticity increased above 20% and skin wrinkles of crows' feet region decreased more than 10%. Besides the instrumental analysis, a large majority of volnteers felt that their skin were improved in the case of wrunkles, elasticity, hydration and color.

Antomicrobial Activity amd Preservative Dffects of chitosan on cosmetic Products

  • Chitin and chitosan have been almost neglected until 1960's although they second largest biomass on earth. Chitosan is a partially deacetylated chitin and belongs to the class of cationic biopolymers. We investigated the antimicrobial activity of chitosan as natural preservatives in cosmetic products. Antimicrobial activity of chitosan against some microorganisms was investigated. The results indicated that chitosan had an effectiveness against some bacteria. We found that chitosan had minimum inhibitory concentataions as low as 100 ppm to S. aureus ATCC 6538, E. coli ATCC 1634 and P. aeruginosa KCTC 2004. But there was not effects to Asp. Niger ATCC 1374 at 1,000 ppm. Also, formuias preserved with chitosan have been subjected to preservative efficacy tests to some microorganisms. Formla preserved with 0.5% chitosan had an effective antimicrobial activity against the Gram (+) and Gram (-) bacteria but not fungi. It is possible to dertermine the formulas with chitosan, which would be effective to reduce the artificial preservatives.

Solubility parameter를 이용한 다층 클렌징 오일에 관한 연구 (Study of Multi-layer Cleansing Oil Using Solubility Parameter)

  • The purpose of this study is to develop a method to evaluate solubility parameter interactions of cosmetic ingredients in formulations. This experimentation relates to the fabrication of new multi-layer cleansing oil which can remove make-up products such as lipstick, foundation, mascara, eye shadow, etc., and also can wash away dirt and sebum from the skin just in one stage process. Solubility parameter and specific gravity of various cosmetic ingredients are measured to explain the cleanliness of interface, detergency of make-up cosmetics on the skin surface. The results suggest that it is possible for cosmetic chemists to use solubility parameter of cosmetic materials for fabrication of new formulation of 3-layer cleansing oil.

  • Cosmetic lateral canthoplasty, in which the size of the eye is increased by extending the palpebral fissure and decreasing the degree of the eye slant, has become a prevalent procedure for East Asians. However, it is not uncommon for there to be complications or unfavorable results after the surgery. With this in mind, the authors have designed a surgical method to reduce complications in cosmetic lateral canthoplasty by preserving the lateral canthal angle. We discuss here the anatomy required for surgery, the surgical methods, and methods for reducing complications during cosmetic lateral canthoplasty.

Safety Evaluation of Polyethylene Glycol (PEG) Compounds for Cosmetic Use

  • Polyethylene glycols (PEGs) are products of condensed ethylene oxide and water that can have various derivatives and functions. Since many PEG types are hydrophilic, they are favorably used as penetration enhancers, especially in topical dermatological preparations. PEGs, together with their typically nonionic derivatives, are broadly utilized in cosmetic products as surfactants, emulsifiers, cleansing agents, humectants, and skin conditioners. The compounds studied in this review include PEG/PPG-17/6 copolymer, PEG-20 glyceryl triisostearate, PEG-40 hydrogenated castor oil, and PEG-60 hydrogenated castor oil. Overall, much of the data available in this review are on PEGylated oils (PEG-40 and PEG-60 hydrogenated castor oils), which were recommended as safe for use in cosmetics up to 100% concentration. Currently, PEG-20 glyceryl triisostearate and PEGylated oils are considered safe for cosmetic use according to the results of relevant studies. Additionally, PEG/PPG-17/6 copolymer should be further studied to ensure its safety as a cosmetic ingredient.
