  • Aluminum alloys have been considered for substantial use in these industries. This ensues from their attractive strength to weight ratio, superb formability, apposite weldability and acceptable corrosion resistance. Depending on the specific application, corrosion behavior is a significant factor of a welded joint. In this study, recent researches in the view of corrosion resistance of friction stir welded aluminum alloys are briefly reviewed.

  • In this study, applicable possibility in chemical decontamination for reactor coolant pump(RCP) was investigated for the various stainless steels. The stainless steel(STS) 304 showed the best electrochemical properties for corrosion current density and the lowest weight loss ratio in chemical decontamination process model 3-3 than other materials. The weightloss quantity in chemical decontamination process model 3-3 presents the lowest value compare to the other chemical decontamination process model 1, 2, 3-1 and 3-2. In the case of SEM observation, the pitting corrosion was generated in both STS 415 and STS 431 with the increasing numbers of cycle. The intergranular corrosion in STS 431 was sporadically observed. The sizes of their pitting corrosion were also increased with increasing cycle numbers.

  • Thermite reaction products of MgO and Al were added to MgO-C refractory to improve the properties of corrosion against the attack of slag, oxidation and mechanical spalling. Corrosion rate of MgO-C-MgAl2O4 spinel refractory at the ratio of 3.3(CaO/SiO2) slag was smaller than that of MgO-C and MgO-C-Al refractory. The excellent corrosion resistance of the MgO-C-MgAl2O4 spinel refractory against the slag attack was appeared by Al and MgAl2O4 spinel with high melting point and corrosion resistance and the high thermal conductivity and low thermal expansion of AIN. Hot M.O.R at 140$0^{\circ}C$ and the resistance of oxidation weight loss at 90$0^{\circ}C$ were 210kg/cm2 and -12% respectively.

  • This study investigates the anti-corrosion properties of two eco-friendly pyridinium ionic liquids; 4DMN and 4DMP, in a 3.5% NaCl solution. Utilizing weight loss tests, EIS, PDP, quantum chemical calculations, and molecular dynamics simulations, the study demonstrates concentration-dependent inhibition efficiencies of 94% and 92% for 4DMN and 4DMP, respectively. The compounds modulate both anodic and cathodic reactions without altering the corrosion mechanism. EIS data suggest that a protective layer forms, supported by FE-SEM and AFM surface analyses, which reveal improved morphology and reduced roughness. Computational validations corroborate these empirical findings, highlighting the feasibility of these ionic liquids for effective, sustainable corrosion mitigation.

  • The product specification of the Continuous Hot Dip Galvanizing Line (CGL) changes and varies constantly with different customers' requirements, especially in the zinc coating weight which is from 30 to 150 g/$m^2$ on each side. Since the coating weight of zinc changes often, it is very important to reduce time spent in the transfer of target values changed for low production cost and yield loss. The No.2 CGL in China Steel Corporation (CSC) has improved the control of the air knife which is designed by Siemens VAI. CSC proposed an experiment design which is an $L_9(3^4)$ orthogonal array to find the relations between zinc coating weight and the process parameters, such as the line speed, air pressure, gap of air knife and air knife position. A non-linear regression formula was derived from the experimental results and applied in the mathematical model. A new air knife feedforward control system, which is coupled with the regression formula, the air knife control system and the process computer, is implemented into the line. The practical plant operation results have been presented to show the transfer time is obviously shortened while zinc coating weight target changing and the product rejected ratio caused by zinc coating weight out of specification is significantly reduced from 0.5% to 0.15 %.

  • effect of some furfural hydrazone derivatives (I -V) as corrosion inhibitors for C-steel in 3M H3PO4 solution in which M indicates mol/l has been studied using weight-loss and galvanostatic polarization techniques. A significant decrease in the corrosion rate of C-steel was observed in the presence of the investigated compounds. This study revealed that, the inhibition efficiency increases with increasing the inhibitor concentration, and the addition of iodide and thiocynate ions enhances it to a considerable extent. The effect of temperature on the corrosion behavior of C-steel was studied in the range from 30-60oC with and without 510-6 M investigated compounds using weight-loss method. Apparent activation corrosion energy (Ea*) and other thermodynamic parameters for the corrosion process were calculated and discussed. The polarization measurements show that the investigated compounds act as mixed-type inhibitors, but the cathode is more polarized when an external current was applied. The adsorption of these compounds on the surface of C-steel in 3M H3PO4 obeys Frumkins adsorption isotherm. The mechanism of inhibition was discussed in the light of the chemical structure of the investigated compounds.

  • The corrosion behaviors of reinforcing steels were investigated under chloride ion contained in cement mortar including gypsum by the implementation of half cell potential measurement, EPMA analysis, exterior features, weight loss and extraction experiment. The acceleration test equipment accelerated corrosion of mild steel bar in a short period of time. From observing the exterior features and weight loss, we could evaluate the measure of corrosion. Also, from the extraction experiment of ${SO_4}^{2-}$ with $Cl^-$ ions contained in the ceramic mortar, we concluded that ${SO_4}^{2-}$ ion affected more on the corrosion mechanism in comparison to pH.

  • As wrought stainless steel, sintered stainless steel (STS) has excellent high-temperature anti-corrosion even at high temperature of $800^{\circ}C$ and exhibit corrosion resistance in air. The oxidation behavior and oxidation mechanism of the sintered 316L stainless was reported at the high temperature in our previous study. In this study, the effects of additives on high-temperature corrosion resistances were investigated above $800^{\circ}C$ at the various oxides ($SiO_2$, $Al_2O_3$, MgO and $Y_2O_3$) added STS respectively as an oxidation inhibitor. The morphology of the oxide layers were observed by SEM and the oxides phase and composition were confirmed by XRD and EDX. As a result, the weight of STS 316L sintered body increased sharply at $1000^{\circ}C$ and the relative density of specimen decreased as metallic oxide addition increased. Compared with STS 316L sintered parts, weight change ratio corresponding to different oxidation time at $900^{\circ}C$ and $1000^{\circ}C$, decreased gradually with the addition of metallic oxide. The best corrosion resistance properties of STS could be improved in case of using $Y_2O_3$. The oxidation rate was diminished dramatically by suppression the peeling on oxide layers at $Y_2O_3$ added sintered stainless steel.

  • This study was carried out to investigate the influence of a sigma phase precipitation on the pitting corrosion resistance and microstructural change of super duplex stainless steels(UNS S32750). The welds made by FCAW (Flux Cored Arc Welding) were heat treated ($930^{\circ}C$, $1080^{\circ}C$, $1230^{\circ}C$) and quenched. Based on the microstructural examination, it was found that the ${\sigma}$ phase was formed in base metals and welds heat treated at $930^{\circ}C$ while there were little ${\sigma}$phases formed in base metals and weld metal experienced the relatively fast cooling from $1080^{\circ}C$ and $1230^{\circ}C$. On the other hand, the most weight loss due to pitting corrosion occurred in base and weld metals heat treated at $930^{\circ}C$. It was confirmed that the pitting corrosion occurred in the phase boundaries of ferrite/sigma and austenite/sigma. The pitting corrosion resistance decreased owing to an increase in Cr, Mo depleted areas adjacent to the intermetallic phases such as ${\sigma}$phases. The hardness was greatly increased due to the precipitation ${\sigma}$phases.

  • This study was carried out with solution temperature variables of $75^{\circ}C$ and $90^{\circ}C$ for STS 304, which is a nuclear equipment material, in order to determine the corrosion damage behavior in chemical decontamination process using permanganic acid and oxalic acid. Then electrochemical polarization experiment, weight loss measurement, surface morphology observation and surface damage depth were measured every cycle of the decontamination process to analyze the degree of corrosion damage. As a result, the corrosion current density, weight loss, and surface damage increased as the decontamination process cycle increased, and the corrosion damage of STS 304 tended to increase. Few ${\mu}m$ pitting damage was observed on the surface observation. In 5 cycle, the elongated wormhole-type pitting damage appeared, leading to relatively large surface damage. However, there was no significant difference in the degree of surface damage resulting from the increase in the temperature of the chemical decontamination solution.
