대퇴골 간부 골절시 사용한 금속물의 금속부전(Metal failure)의 기전에 대한 연구 (A study of the cause of metal failure in treatment of femur shaft fracture - Fractographical and clinical analysis of metal failure-)

  • 1983년 5월부터 1989년 9월까지 본 영남의료원 정형외과에 대퇴골 간부골절시 사용한 금속 내 고정물의 금속 부전으로 입원한 경우 중 부전된 금속의 표면관찰이 가능한 8례에 대한 임상적 고찰 및 부전된 금속 파손 표면의 관찰을 통해 확인한 파손 원인을 요약하면 다음과 같다. 1. 금속 부전이 발생 내고정물의 종류는 압박금속판 5례, Jewett nail 1례, Rowe plate screw 1례, interlocking nail 1례였다. 2. 금속 부전의 임상적 추정에 의한 원인으로는 반대편 피질골 결손 5례, 부적절한 위치선정 1례 및 부적절한 금속선택 1례였다. 3. 금속 내고정후 금속 부전이 되기까지의 기간을 보면, 4개월이 1례, 6개월에서 12개월 사이가 6례, 3년이 1례였다. 4. 부전된 내고정물의 파손면 관찰을 통해 확인한 금속부전의 원인을 보면, 첫째, impact failure 1례 둘째, fatigue failure 6례 machining mark가 있어 이것이 stress riser로서 역할을 한 것으로 보이는 경우가 4례였으며, 이의 형태는 low consistent cyclic fatigue failure와 irregular cyclic fatigue failure의 형태를 관찰할 수 있었다. 셋째, Stress corrosion crack 1례를 관찰할 수 있었다. 5. 316L Stainless Steel은 내부식성이 좋은 금속이지만 fretting에 의해 특유의 부동태 피막이 손상되면 pitting corrosion을 일으키며 경우에 따라서는 파손의 기점으로 작용되어 failure의 주요 원인이 되기도 한다. 6. screw hole의 가공시 기계에 의한 손상 및 기구(implant) 제조 과정중 손상이 plate의 failure를 유발하는 중요한 원인이 될 수도 있다. 기계에 의한 손상은 응력을 집중시키므로 plate가 파손되기 쉽게 한다. 이상의 결과 임상적 추정에 의한 원인 이외에도 부전된 금속파손면 관찰을 통해 중요한 다른 원인을 찾을 수 있었으므로, 금속부전의 예방을 위해 앞으로 이 방향으로의 계속적인 연구가 필요할 것으로 사료된다.

All-ceramic Crown 용 도재의 동적 피로특성 평가 (AN EVALUATION OF DYNAMIC FATIGUE CHARACTERISTICS OF DENTAL CERAMICS FOR ALL-CERAMIC CROWN)

  • This study was peformed to evaluate the dynamic fatigue characteristics of the dental ceramics for all-ceramic crown. A feldspathic porcelain of VMK68. glass ceramic of IPS-Empress, and glass infiltrated alumina ceramic of In-Ceram were used. Disc specimens were prepared to the final dimensions of 12 mm in diameter and 1 mm in thickness. The biaxial flexure test was conducted using a ball-on-three-ball method. 240 specimens were tested in $37^{\circ}C$ water by testing 20 samples at each of four loading rates:0.05, 0.2, 1, and 5mm/min. 60 specimens were tested in a moisture-free environment by testing 20 samples at 5mm/min. The inert strength of VMK68 was 80.25MPa, and the fatigue parameters were n=29.1, ${\sigma}_{fo}=52.90MPa$. The inert strength of IPS-Empress was 104.76MPa, and the fatigue parameters were n=32.46, ${\sigma}_{fo}=67.52MPa$. The inert strength of In-Ceram was 429.33MPa, and the fatigue parameters were n=31.46, ${\sigma}_{fo}=258.36MPa$. 10-year failure stresses of VMK68, IPS-Empress, and In-Ceram were 20.3MPa, 24.8MPa, and 93.6MPa, respectively. Failure strength and fatigue life showed the highest value in In-Ceram, and then, IPS-Empress and VMK68.

크롬탄화물 용사피막의 고온마모 특성연구 (A Study on Wear Properties of Plasma Sprayed $Cr_3C_2$-NiCr Coating at High Temperature)

  • The plasma sprayed $Cr_3C_2$-NiCr coatings are widely used as wear-resistant and corrosion-resistant materials. The mechanical and wear properties of the plasma sprayed $Cr_3C_2$-NiCr coating on steel plate were examined in this study. The pore in the coatings could be classified into two types, the one is the intrinsic pore originated from the spraying powder, the other is the extrinsic pore formed during spraying. During the tensile adhesion test, the fracture occured at the interface of top coating and bond coating. It is though that the compressive residual stress increases with the increase of the top coating thickness. From the wear test, it was found that the wear rate increased with the increase of the sliding velocity regardless of the temperature. It is thought that the fracture toughness reduces with the increase of the sliding velocity at $30^{\circ}C$ and that the adhesion amount increases with the increase of the sliding velocity at $400^{\circ}C$ It is concluded that the wear mechanism at $30^{\circ}C$ is the fracture and pull-out of the carbide particles due to the fatigue on sliding surface, while the wear mechanism at $400^{\circ}C$ is the adhesion of the smeared layer formed during wear process.

기계적 피로결함 시험편 제조 및 결함 크기 평가 (Fabrication of Mechanical fatigue flawed Specimen and Evaluation of Flaw Size)

  • 원자력발전소의 안전성등급 기기에 적용되는 비파괴검사는 실제 결함을 실현한 시험편을 사용하여 결함탐지능력을 검증하도록 하는 기량검증이 요구되고 있다. 가동중인 원전에서 발생 가능한 균열으로는 기계적 피로균열, 열 피로균열 및 입계부식균열 등이 있으나 본 연구에서는 기계적 피로균열을 대상으로 하였다. 인장 피로하중을 사용하여 기계적 피로결함을 제조하기 위해서 시험편을 설계하였고 원하는 피로결함 파면의 조도를 얻기 위해서 인가하중의 크기 및 사이클 수를 조절하여 피로결함을 발생시켰다. 발생된 결함에 대한 정확한 크기와 위치에 대한 물리적 정보를 얻은 후에 결함이 설계된 크기와 위치에 존재하도록 기밀용접을 실시하였다. 기밀용접 후 잔여 용접 흠은 가스 텅스텐 아크용접 및 플럭스 코어드 아크용접으로 채워졌다. 최종 완성된 피로결함 시험편을 방사선투과검사 및 초음파탐상검사를 통하여 검사한 결과, 설계된 길이와 깊이로 피로결함이 형성되었음을 확인하였다.

  • 본 연구에서는 수적법(hand lay up : HLU)을 이용하여 단 섬유포(chopped strand mat : CSM)형태의 유리섬유를 불포화 폴리에스테르 수지에 강화시킨 복합 적층 판을 대상으로 해수중에서 굽힘·피로시험을 실시하여 피로균열 성장거동을 관찰하고 파면관찰을 통하여 GERP의 피로특성을 검토하였다.

  • In general, the problems of strengthening and repairing of deteriorated or damaged reinforced concrete members are usually worked out in situ by externally bounding steel plates using epoxy resins, which has been recognized to be one of effective and convenient methods. But the disadvantages of strengthening/repairing concrete members with externally bonded steel plates include ; (a) deterioration of the bond at the steel-concrete interface caused by the corrosion of steel ; (b) difficulty in manipulating the plate at the construction site ; (c) improper formation of joints, due to the limited delivery lengths of the steel plates ; and etc. Therefore these difficulties eventually have led to the concept of replacing the steel plates by fiber-reinforced composite sheets which are characterized by their light weight, extremely high stiffness, excellent fatigue properties, and outstanding corrosion resistance. In the paper, for the reliability assessment of reinforced concrete beams externally strengthened by carbon fiber plastic(CFRP) laminates, an attempt is made to suggest a limit state model based on the strain compatibility method and the concept of fracture mechanics. And the reliability of the proposed models is evaluated by using the AFOSM method. The load carrying capacity of the deteriorated and/or damaged RC beams is considerably increased. Thus, it may be stated that the post-strengthening of concrete beams with externally bonded CFRP materials may be one of very effective way of increasing the load carrying capacity and stiffeness characteristics of existing structures.

  • Fretting of fuel rod cladding material, Zircaloy-4 tube, in PWR nuclear power plants must be reduced and avoided. Nowadays the introduction of surface treatments or coatings is expected to be an ideal solution to fretting damage since fretting is closely related to wear. corrosion and fatigue. Therefore. in this study the fretting wear experiment was performed using TiAlN coated Zircaloy-4 tube as the fuel rod cladding and uncoated Zircaloy-4 as on of grids, especially concentrating on the sliding component. Fretting wear resistance of TiAlN coated Zircaloy-4 tubes was improved compared with that of TiN coated tubes and uncoated tubes and fretting wear mechanisms were brittle fracture and plastic flow at lower slip amplitude but severe oxidation and spallation of oxidative layer at higher ship amplitude.

티타늄합금의 래핑가공에 관한 실험적 연구 (An Experimental Study on the Lapping of Titanium Alloy)

  • Titanium specially has high specific strength, excellent mechanical properties as fatigue strength and fracture ductility, good corrosion resistance, and therefore are broadly applied to the various fields. It is required the developmennt for the skills of wire-cut electrical discharge machining(WEDM), but the WEDMed surface was found to be worst due to the attached components of wire. Therefore precision maching method like lapping is necessary for getting high quilty surface. Roughness of lapped surface, surface hardness to each process depth and improved method of surface shape were stuided experimentally, by changing of grain size of diamond lap material and lapping pressure with constant speed in lapping process.

  • The use of acoustic emission (AE) technique for detecting and monitoring damages and the progress on damages in different structures is widely used and has earned a reputation as one of the most reliable and well-established technique in non-destructive testing (NDT). Acoustic Emission is a very efficient and effective technology used for fracture behavior and fatigue detection in metals, fiberglass, wood, composites, ceramics, concrete and plastics. It can also be used for detecting faults and pressure leaks in vessels, tanks, pipes, as well as for monitoring the progression of corrosion in welding. This paper reviews major research developments over the past few years in application of acoustic emission in numerous engineering fields, including manufacturing, civil, aerospace and material engineering.
