Al-brass is the raw material of mnufacturing tubes for heat exchanger of vessel where seawater is used to coolant because it has high level of heat coductivity and excellent mechanical properties and high level of corrosion resistance due to cuprous oxide($Cu_2O$) layer against seawater. However, damage of Al-brass tubes for heat exchanger of vessel is reported that local corrosion such as stress corrosion cracking occurred by synergism effect between mechanical factor and corrosion environment. In this study, to investigate on the effect of stress on the polarization characteristics of Al-brass. At the stress of 0% and 95% yield strength by constant displacement tester, in 3.5% NaCl + 0.1% $NH_4OH$ solution, the polarization tests were carried out. And thus open circuit potential, corrosion current density, anodic polarization, cyclic polarization and dezincification behavior of Al-brass are investigated.
The only hardness of 2nd phase of martensite in dual phase steel which was composed of the martensite and ferrite was changed. Fatigue test was conducted by cantilever type of self-made rotated bending fatigue testing machine. The corrosion fatigue fracture behaviors of dual phase steel were investigated in 3% NaCl solution at $N_f$ = $1.5\times$$10^5$$N_f$=1.0 $\times$$10^6$ cycles. The fatigue strength was increased with increasing the hardness of 2nd phase. The size and number of corrsion pits were influenced by the 2nd phase hardness and pits remain constant in size just after they were transited into cracks. The life of crack initiation was effected by stress level. The shape of relation of $\Delta$K and da/dn has smaller scattering in it in 3% NaCl solution than that in air. The higher the 2nd phase hardness is, the higher the corrosion fatigue life becomes. Corrosion fatigue fracture behavior was effected by mechanics in case of $N_f$=1.5$\times$10$^5$$N_f$=1.5$\times$10$^6$ cycles.
It is necessary to guarantee the safety, serviceability and durability of reinforced concrete structures over their service life. However, concrete structures represent a decrease in their durability due to the effects of external environments according to the passage of time, and such degradation in durability can cause structural degradation in materials. In concrete structures, some degradations in durability increase the corrosion of embedded rebars and also decrease the structural performance of materials. Thus, the structural condition assessment of RC materials damaged by corrosion of rebars becomes an important factor that judges needs to apply restoration. In order to detect the damage of reinforced concrete structures, a visual inspection, a nondestructive evaluation method(NDE) and a specific loading test have been employed. However, obscurities for visual inspection and inaccessible members raise difficulty in evaluating structure condition. For these reasons, detection of location and quantification of the damage in structures via structural response have been one of the very important topics in system identification research. The main objective of this project is to develope a methodologies for the damage identification via static responses of the members damaged by durability. Six reinforced concrete beams with variables of corrosion position and corrosion width were fabricated and the damage detections of corroded RC beams were performed by the optimization and the conjugate beam methods using static deflection. In results it is proved that the conjugate beam method could predict the damage of RC members practically.
The stress corrosion index of Kumamoto andesite are evaluated by two types of testing method. One is the uniaxial compression test under various water vapor pressures, and the other is the double torsion (DT) test under a constant water vapor pressure. For the uniaxial compression tests, the uniaxial compressive strength increases linearly with decreasing water vapor pressure on the double logarithmic coordinates. As the results, the stress corrosion index obtained is estimated 44. On the other hand, in the DT test, the relaxation (RLX) test and the constant displacement rate (CDR) test were conducted. For the CDR test, as the displacement rate of loading point increases, the crack velocity increases. However, the fracture toughness is constant regardless of the change in displacement rate and the average fracture toughness is evaluated $2.07MN/m^{3/2}$. For the RLX test, the crack velocity-stress intensity factor curves are smooth and linear. The stress corrosion index estimated from the curves is 37. Comparing stress corrosion indexes in the uniaxial compression test and the DT test, there is no significant difference in these values, and they are considered to be in coincident each other regardless of testing methods. Therefore, it is concluded that stress corrosion is one of material constants of rock.

In this study, corrosion fatigue test of SAPH45 steel was performed by the use of plane bending fatigue tester in marine environment and investigated fracture surface growth behavior of base metal and heat affected zone corrosion fatigue. The main results obtained are as follows: 1) Fracture surface growth of heat affected zone (HAZ) is delayed more than that of base matel (BM), and they tend to faster in seawater than in air. 2) Corrosion sensitivity to corrosion fatigue life of HAZ is more susceptible than that of BM. 3)In the case of the corner crack by corrosion fatigue, the correlation between the propagation rate of fracture surface area(dA/dN) and stress intensity factor range(ΔK) for SAPH45 are applied to Paris rule as follows: dA/dN=C(ΔK) super(m) where m is the slope of the correlation, and is about 6.60-6.95 in air and about 6.33-6.41 in seawater respectively.
Electro-chemical aspects of stress corrosion on the mild steels when immersed in the $5\%\;H_2SO_4$ solution and charged with 100mV and 100mA were discussed. The main results of the experiment are follows; 1. The weight loss by corrosion was concerned with the applied stress. and the larger the applied stress, the greater the weight loss. 2. Reduction of corrosion stress was a factor of inverse proportion to the applied stress. 3. Corrosion began at first on the parts of impurities concentrated and the grain boundaries, and gradually developed and spreaded out. 4. The materials of unsteady structure deformed of space lattice by the high stress or work-hardening showed less reduction of corrosion stress.
The effects of PWHT (poste weld heat treatment) and stress simulating the residual stress during PWHT in weld HAZ of low and high strength steels on corrosion fatigue crack growth were evaluated. The obtained results are summarized as follows. 1. Fatigue crack growth rate of HAZ in air and 3.5% NaCl solution was slower than that of parent due to the signgularity in weld HAZ. 2. In the case of HT-80, 3.5% NaCl solutio nacts to accelerate the crack growth for all specimens, and the sensitivity of as-weld to corrosion environment was the greatest among other PWHT specimens. 3. Corrosion fatigue crack growth of parent, as-weld and PWHT speciments ofr SS41 as well as SM53B was retarded in comparison with the fatigue crack growth in air. 4. There was a tendency that crack growth of PWHT specimens subjected $10kg/mm^2$ was faster than that of PWHT specimens without stress during PWHT. 5. The retardation phenomenon of crack growth in corrosion environment is attributed to the crack branching decreased .DELTA.K due to the corrosion products and multi-cracks.

In this study, corrosion fatigue characteristics of 12Cr alloy steel were investigated in 3.5wt.% NaCl solution of 150$^{\circ}C$ and 4.5bar. Behavior of corrosion fatigue cracks was measured by the indirect compliance method and compared with the results in distilled water and in air. 1) 12Cr alloy steel was susceptible to temperature. Its susceptibility was increased as the temperature was increased. 2) The crack growth characteristics of 12Cr alloy steel in distilled water were similar to 3.5wt.% NaCl solution. 3) The temperature of solution affects to the crack growth characteristics of 12Cr alloy steel. In corrosion solutions of 4.5bar, 150$^{\circ}C$, fracture surfaces of corrosion fatigue crack growth at a/W=0.3 was showed the trans-granular fracture suface. As the crack grew up, it was changed to inter-granular type. In condition of high temperature, The crack growth behaviors of 12Cr alloy steel were remarkable.
The present study concerns the influence of binder type on the chloride-induced corrosion being accompanied by the chloride threshold level (CTL), chloride transport and as their results the corrosion-free lift. Two levels of cement content, $30\%$ PFA and $65\%$ GGBS concrete were employed. It was found that the most dominant factor to the CTL is the entrapped air void content at the steel-concrete interface, irrespective of the chloride binding capacity, binder type and acid neutralisation capacity of cement matrix. The CTL for lower interfacial air void contents was significantly increased up to $1.52\%$ by weight of cement, whereas a same mix produced $0.35\%$ for a higher level of voids. Because of a remarkable reduction in the diffusion fur GGBS concrete, its time to corrosion ranges from 255 to 1,250 days, while the corrosion-free life for control varies from 20 to 199 days sand for $30\%$ PFA concrete from 200 to 331 days.
The rotated bending fatigue test was conducted in air md in 3.5% NaCl salt solution to investigate the fatigue fracture behaviour of raw material and F.E.M dual phase steel made from raw material(SS41) by a suitable heat treatment. This study has compared the initial microcrack creation of material by tensile test with that by fatigue test. And the rotated bending test of cantilever type under the condition of 3.5% NaCl salt solution and air has investigated the corrosion fatigue fracture behaviour with the variation of stress concentration factor determined by each of notch shapes. The initial microcrack have been developed in fragile grainboundary with general corrosion occurring in raw material : in the pits built up by corrosion in F.E.M. dual phase steel because pits bring out stress concentration. It is small that the degree of decrease in corrosion fatigue life for F.E.M. dual phase steel compared with raw material because the notch sensitivity of F.E.M. dual phase steel is lower than raw material in reason of characteristics with two-phase construction.
