Defects Evaluation at Lap Joint Friction Stir Welding by Lock-in Ultrasound Infrared Thermography (위상잠금 초음파 적외선열화상에 의한 겹치기 마찰교반용접부의 결함 평가)

  • Lap joint friction stir welding(LFSW) is an relatively new solid state joining process. A6061-T6 aluminium alloy has gathered wide acceptance in the fabrication of light weight structures requiring a high strength to weight ratio and good corrosion resistance. Test methods used in this paper, lock-in thermography, a phase difference between the defect area and the healthy area indicates the qualitative location and size of the defect. In this paper, the defects detected from the thermal image of mechanical properties for weld were evaluated and compared by the lock-in infrared thermography technique.

  • The railway bridge of the domestic still has been used steel base such as sperical bearing and pot bearing widely. However, the bearing of steel series is occured corrosion frequently, reduced durability and raised maintenance cost excessively due to the nature of the material. If the elastomeric bearing which is widely used in highway bridge is applied to the railway bridge, it will be able to compensate this defect a lot. In order to apply to the railway bridge used for highway bridge, is needed the control of the bridge ends deflection, lateral displacement and negative reaction. Therefore, the elastomeric bearing can be applied to the railway bridge enough, if installed negative reaction key for control of the bridge ends deflection, improved shear wedge performance for control of the lateral force, adjust the thickness of the elastomeric pad for the minimize deflection, in addition, can be economic design of sub-structures due to damping effect.

  • 지하철, 고속철도, 신공항, 공동구, 지하보도, 지하차도, 하수도, 도로 및 철도 등 의 지하구조에는 일반적으로 박스형태의 콘크리트 구조물이 건설되고 있다. 1990년 대 중반 이후 시공 및 사용중인 지하 박스 콘크리트 구조물의 균열 및 누수 등의 문제점이 사회적인 문제로 부각되기 시작하였다. 이러한 지하 박스 콘크리트 구조물에 발생할 수 있는 문제점은 크게 결함(defect), 손상(damage), 열화(deterioration)의 3가지로 구분될 수 있으며, 이들 원인은 구조물에 균열(cracking), 누수(leakage), 처짐(deflection), 부동침하(settlement) 재료분리(segregation) , 박리(delamination), 부식(corrosion), 박락(spalling)등의 현상으로 나타난다.(중략)

  • Surgical treatments were performed in 765 patients of the esophageal diseases at National Medical Center from 1959 to 1982. During these periods, we experienced 945 cases of the esophageal diseases. There were 401 males and 364 females and ranging from 4 days to 76 years of age and mean age was 32.4 years. The most highest mortality noted as 23.0% in esophageal perforation cases. In esophageal strictures cases, the rate of surgical mortality was 5.4%[21/386]. The over all mortality in esophageal surgical cases was 10.8%. We want to expressed about the incidence of Corrosion Carcinoma which developed from the benign esophageal stricture as 2.2%[12/550] of total stricture and as 4.9%[12/241] of total esophageal carcinoma. And the esophagoscopic biopsy must be done who had long standing history of esophageal stricture as a preoperative evaluation purpose.

  • The results of the field tests with the prototype of the improved screw type show that the opening torque was $5N{\cdot}m$, 64% decreased compared to $14N{\cdot}m$ of the existed diversion gates. Moreover, there were no any rust as well as physical changes with various weather condition. While the operating times of the conventional screw and worm gear typed diversion gates were 233sec and 495sec, respectively, the operating time of the improved screw type was only 32sec, only 13.7% and 6.5%, respectively, of them. The amount of leakage was 0.4 liter per minute for the improved screw typed diversion gate while the conventional gate was shown 1.5liter per minute according to gap, corrosion, defect, etc.

  • Devices of diversion gate used at irrigation canal, as a irrigation structures of agriculture, have shown serious problems such as corrosion, defect, inconvenience of operation, etc. Accordingly, handy devices of diversion gate have been developed and then tested in the laboratory. The operating types of the prototype were a rack-and-pinion type, an improved screw type that only gate plate was moved up and down while the screw axis was unmoved, and a remote control type which can be controlled from 50m away using a remote control system. Those 3 types were developed, and the improved screw type was shown the best operation through the laboratory tests.

  • Electrical resistance welded steel pipes showed leakage failure within 5 years usage. Microstructural analysis and hardness test were carried out, whose results gave no evidences about the reason of failure. For the analysis, 3 kinds of ERW pipes with different heat inputs were produced. Microstructural differences according to the different heat inputs were detected. Differences of the amount of inclusion in the weld line were observed. It is concluded that the difference of heat input during ERW pipe production caused the microstructural changes which resulted in the leakage failure.

  • The signal pattern recognition method by acoustic emission signal is applied to detect and classify the defects of a journal bearing in a power plant. AE signals of main defects such as overheating, wear and corrosion are obtained from a small scale model. To detect and classify the defects, AE signal pattern recognition program is developed. As the classification methods, the wavelet transformation analysis, the frequency domain analysis and time domain analysis are used. Among three analyses, the wavelet transformation analysis is most effective to detect and classify the defects of the journal bearing..

  • The use of multi scale modeling concepts and simulation techniques to study the destabilization of an ultrathin layer of oxide interface between a metal substrate and the surrounding environment is considered. Of particular interest are chemo-mechanical behavior of this interface in the context of a molecular-level description of stress corrosion cracking. Motivated by our previous molecular dynamics simulations of unit processes in materials strength and toughness, we examine the challenges of dealing with chemical reactivity on an equal footing with mechanical deformation, (a) understanding electron transfer processes using first-principles methods, (b) modeling cation transport and associated charged defect migration kinetics, and (c) simulation of pit nucleation and intergranular deformation to initiate the breakdown of the oxide interlayer. These problems illustrate a level of multi-scale complexity that would be practically impossible to attack by other means; they also point to a perspective framework that could guide future research in the broad computational science community.

  • According to previous report, aged sleeves for old transmission lines have variable defects such as biased installed case or corrosion of steel sleeve. Biased installed sleeve occupied 20 percent among the investigated aged sleeves. This defect must cause local heating of splice connector and limit power transmission capacity. It even inspire falling out of overhead conductor from sleeves. This paper studies thermal properties and tension for ACSR conductor in case of biased installed sleeve model. The detailed results were presented in the text.
