  • In this paper, peak-to-average power ratio (PAPR) of orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) with respect to the subchannel coding schemes for interchannel interference (ICI) self-cancellation is analyzed. It is shown theoretically and experimentally that a shaping component is generated in the transmitted sequence in the conventional correlative coding where a pair of antipodal signals is assigned in adjacent subchannels. Due to the shaping component, the signal powers in the mid and edges of a symbol are scaled by different weighting coefficients, resulting in increased PAPR. To overcome this problem a simple adjacent subchannel coding scheme is presented in this paper. In the new scheme, the shaping component caused by partial repetition of signals is eliminated by assigning a pair of signals in which phase difference varies signal-to-signal. As results, the new scheme has 2-3 dB smaller PAPR than the conventional ICI self-cancellation OFDM while maintaining much higher carrier-to-interference ratio than a normal OFDM system.

  • In this paper, new lossless coding method of spectral coefficients for audio codec is proposed. Conventional lossless coder uses Huffman coding utilizing the statistical characteristics of spectral coefficients, but does not provide the high coding efficiency due to its simple structure. To solve this limitation, new lossless coding scheme with better performance is proposed that consists of bit-plane transform and run-length coding. In the proposed scheme, the spectral coefficients are first transformed by bit-plane into 1-D bit-stream with better correlative properties, which is then coded intorun-length and is finally Huffman coded. In addition, the coding performance is further increased by applying the proposed bit-plane coding selectively to each group, after the entire frequency is divided into 3 groups. The performance of proposed coding scheme is measured in terms of theoretical number of bits based on the entropy, and shows at most 6% enhancement compared to that of conventional lossless coder used in AAC audio codec.

  • The Maximum Likelihood Sequence Estimation scheme is modified to improve the error performance of the correlative coding in the Tamed FM. To remove intersymbol interference, the Decision Feedback Equalization scheme with the delayed LMS algorithm and the Viterbi algorithm(10-symbol delay) in the delayed adaptive equalization are proposed for the performance of decision-directed adaptive equalization under the High Frequency channels, and the condition of convergence is analyzed.

  • In this paper, we propose an efficient motion vector recovery algorithm for the new coding standard H.264, which makes use of the Lagrange interpolation formula. In H.264/AVC, a 16$\times$16 macroblock can be divided into different block shapes for motion estimation, and each block has its own motion vector. In the natural video the motion vector is likely to move in the same direction, hence the neighboring motion vectors are correlative. Because the motion vector in H.264 covers smaller area than previous coding standards, the correlation between neighboring motion vectors increases. We can use the Lagrange interpolation formula to constitute a polynomial that describes the motion tendency of motion vectors, and use this polynomial to recover the lost motion vector. The simulation result shows that our algorithm can efficiently improve the visual quality of the corrupted video.
