  • Purpose. The purpose of this study was conducted to identify the elders' general quality of life and oral health-related quality of life. Method. Questionnaire survey was conducted on 241 elders' living in Pohang area from August to September 2014. The results were obtained from t-test, one-way ANOVA analysis, pearson correlation coefficients and multiple regression analysis. Results. Oral health status had significant correlations with gender, age, education, income, drink and hypertension. Oral health-related quality of life showed the highest relationships with age; oral health status and general quality of life showed the highest relationships with monthly income; and, age and education period also showed influence on general quality of life. Conclusions. Therefore, it is required to strengthen oral health improvement program and oral health education for improvement of elders' quality of life.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the life satisfaction, to analyze the differences of the life satisfaction according to personal factor of university students, and to analyze relationship between adjustment to life and life satisfaction. The questionnaires were administered to 549 university students in Chongju city to measure the demographic information, the life satisfaction, and adjustment to life. As statistical analysis, frequencies, t-test, ANOVA, correlation, and factor analysis were used. The results were as follows: 1. The life satisfaction was classified into two factors; subjective satisfaction and other person's view of satisfaction. 2. The university students showed negative attitudes toward the life satisfaction. 3. There was significant difference between males and females. Compare to female students, male students responded more positively to the life satisfaction. 4. There were partially significant differences according to personal factors of students on the life satisfaction. 5. There were significant correlations between each variable of adjustments to life and life satisfaction.

  • The experiment was conducted to obtain basic information on breeding of flue-cured tobacco varieties. Nine cultivars and partial diallel set of 36 F1 hybrides were grown at Taegu Experiment Station, Korea Ginseng & Tobacco Research Institute in 1983. Estimated heritability in the narrow-sense ranged from 66.21% to 94.12% for yield, leaves per plant, days to flower, leaf weight, leaf width, leaf shape, nicotine content and reducing sugar content, while that for stalk height, leaf length, midrib weight and midrib width ranged from 28.12% to 56.25%. The genotypic correlations were positive among yield, leaf weight, leaf length, leaf width, midrib weight and midrib width in the middle leaves, days to flower, nicotine content and reducing correlated with leaf length than leaf width. At the path coefficient analysis of the effect of leaf and midrib characters upon yield according to stalk position, leaf weight, leaf width and midrib width in the middle leaves, and leaf weight, and leaf width in the top leaves showed high direct effects.

  • AN EMBEDDED PC-BASED HARDWARE AND SOFTWARE SYSTEM HAS BEEN DEVELOPED TO AUTOMATE THE DATA ACQUISITION AND ANALYSIS OF BRAKE SQUEAL. THE DEVELOPED SYSTEM INTEGRATES ADVANCED SIGNAL CONDITIONING HARDWARE AND SOFTWARE TO ACQUIRE BRAKE NOISE AND VIBRATION DATA RAPIDLY, CONSISTENTLY AND OBJECTIVELY. A SPECIAL PEAK-PICKING ALGORITHM IS USED TO DETERMINE WHEN BRAKE NOISE OCCURS DURING A STOP EVENT AND ACTUALLY DEFINE FROM WHICH CORNER OF THE VEHICLE IT ORIGINATES. A SPECIAL NOISE-RATING TABLE IS FEATURED TO ENABLE THE USER TO DEVELOP CORRELATIONS BETWEEN DRIVER RATINGS AND OBJECTIVE MEASUREMENTS.

  • In this study, the performance of an automobile heat storage system using PCM is numerically simulated. For the analysis of system performance. The phase-change of the PCM and the transient forced convective heat transfer for the HTF are considered simultaneously as a conjugate problem. The phase-change behavior is effectively analyzed using a concept of thermal resistance. From the correlations of phase change rate and heat transfer due to the variations of flow rate of HTF around PCM, the automobile heat storage system performance is predicted. The present results amy be used as the fundamental information for the design of automobile heat storage system.

  • Outdoor spaces in an apartment complex have been enlarged by the increased underground car parking. It has become accepted as important place for acoustic comfort of resident. This paper attempts to determine the noise exposure to the outdoor area in 21 apartment complexes built within 5 years. The results showed that the average noise level of outdoor area ranged from 37.6dB(A) to 67.2dB(A). And the percentage of areas below the noise level of 55dB(A) range 0.1% to 95.0%. The analysis on correlations shows that the traffic volume and building coverage have significant effects on noise level.

  • Impacts of non-point source pollution on water quality are well known. In this paper, effects of land use, precipitation characteristics, discharge characteristics on non-point source pollutant loadings at urban, agricultural and forestry watersheds were discussed. Rainfall runoffs from fifteen rainfall events were sampled and analysed at two urban watersheds, one rural watershed, and one forestry watershed. EMCs (Event Mean Concentration) were calculated based on monitored flow rates and concentrations. Statistical analysis carried out with runoff loadings and affecting variables indicated that runoff loadings are weakly correlated with the rainfall intensity and the dry days before rainfall events while showed no correlations with rainfall depth nor runoff quantity. By comparing EMCs between study watersheds on log-normal cumulative probability scale, EMCs ranking were in the descending order of urban watershed>agricultural watershed>forestry watershed for SS, TCOD, TN, and TP.

  • To evaluate the biological water quality, diatom-based biological indices (DAIpo and TDI) were examined in the Sum-River and the Dal-stream. Having BOD concentrations below $2mg{\cdot}L^{-1}$ in most sites, water quality of both rivers was good. The DAIpo and TDI values ranged from 29.8 to 91.4 and from 38.7 to 93.0 respectively. From the biological water quality assessment, DAIpo and TDI for both rivers displayed fair to fairly poor water quality levels. However, the two indices showed more polluted conditions than expected from the BOD vlaues. In addition, DAIpo, having wider range of differences, appears to be more sensitive to the change in water quality when compared to TDI values. Statistical analysis using principal component analysis showed that Nitzschia palea and Diatoma vulgare might not be the appropriate indicators due to their low correlations with other indicators.

  • The purpose of this study is to clarify correlations between soil environments and the growth of trees in forests and thereon analyze effects of seasonal changes in such environments on such growth. To determine seasonal factors of soil affecting the Tree Vitality of Pinus thunbergii, first of all, the study designated the Tree Vitality as a dependent variable and soil hardness, moisture, pH, K, Na, Mg and Ca as independent variables. Then the study performed Pearson's coefficient analysis. To clarify what soil factors influence the seasonal growth of Pinus thunbergii multiple regression analysis is carried out, and findings are as follow; the growth of Pinus thunbergii was basically influenced by pH, followed by soil hardness in spring, K, followed by moisture in summer, and by soil hardness in winter. However, no soil factors affected the vitality at the significance level of 5% for t.
