This study was aimed at determining a regime of flow through rubble mound dike consisted of all sized quarrystons, and deriving a relationship between hydraulic gradient (I) and mean flow velocity (V) through the dike. The analysis was carried out with the data observed after final gap closing of the Haenam Sea dike from May, 6 to May, 14, 1987. The resu]ts are summarized as follows: 1. The regime of flow would be defined as the turbulent flow. 2. As to the relationships, two kinds of formula that are exponential and binomial were obtained. Exponential formula: I=2.099V 1.2888 Binomial formula: I=0.6113V+5.5235V$^2$ 3. Correlation coefficient of the former was 0.824 and that of the latter was 0.821, and the deviations between observed data and estimated were 0.0070 and 0.0064 respectively. 4. Comparing the correlation coefficient, both the equations have the same correlation coefficients, but in case of the deviation the binomial equation was better than the exponential equation. Therefore, the binomial equation is proposed for analyzing the flow through rubble mound dike.
Metal Transfer in gas metal arc (GMA) welding is a complex phenomenon affected by many parameters of the welding conditions and material properties. In this research, the correlation equation between the welding condition and detaching droplet size and detaching velocity in GMA welding was studied via recession analysis on the results of numerical analysis using the volume-of-fluid (VOF) method. Welding parameters and material properties were grouped into three dimensionless numbers and detaching droplet size was expressed as the function of them. Second order and exponential multi-variable correlation forms were assumed, and the coefficients of these equations were calculated for globular and spray modes as well as entire transfer modes. Applying correlation equation into available experimental data, it shows good agreement.
Supercritical fluid chromatography (SFC) was considered for separating racemic ibuprofen. The chromatographic column (3.9 ${\times}$ 150 mm) was packed with Kromasil$^{\circledR}$ CHI-TBB, and the mobile phase was supercritical carbon dioxide with modifier of IPA. The experimental variables were the content of IPA, and temperature and pressure of supercritical mobile phase. To determine the separation condition, the empirical equation of retention factor and resolution was proposed. In the case of retention factor, the empirical equation was in the form, $k\;=\;a{\rho}\;+b/F\;+\;c\;({\rho}/F)\;+\;d$. The empirical equation for resolution was proposed as a linear form, $R\;=\;a{\rho}\;+\;bF\;+\;c$.
In order to introduce to engineers the suitable calculation techniques of TBM advance rate (ad.) and ultimately promote to understand the designing process, this study was carried out. We analyzed the 17 bored data of TBM which applied to the roadway and water supply tunnels in Korea. From this analysis, it was able to how that the average utilization is 30.83% md the correlation equation of Ad and TBM´s diameter (D) is Ad(m/month) = 506.05ㆍ $e^{-0.1162}$$\times$D than the correlation coefficient ($R^2$) is 0.76. In the object of the W tunnel of Seoul-Busan highspeed railway, the Ad of TBM 5.0mø was analyzed by the variety of empirical models and upper correlation equation. Average Ad of the empirical models was calculated to be larger than one of the upper equations. But considering only the results of 3.0~5.0mø TBM in the 17 bored data, the average Ad by the models belongs to the similar range of bored data. Therefore, when the reliability and representative of parameters are decreased, a reliability test should be carried out through the comparison a variety of empirical models with the upper correlation equation.
The physical phenomena of rectangular open cavity are numerically investigated in this paper Two-dimensional cavity problems with laminar boundary layers in upstream are simulated by using the compressible Wavier-Stokes equations. The high-order and high-resolution numerical schemes are used for the evaluation of spatial derivatives and the time integration. Cross-correlation is used to analyze the characteristics of wave propagation along time and spatial. Sudden phase shifting of 90 degrees is appeared near downstream edge, and this is coincident with the phase lag suggested in original Rossiter's equation. The results give a further understanding of the physical phenomenon of noise generation, and the resonance of flow and acoustic in cavity. Moreover, modified Rossiter's equation, which is more accurate and can be applied in various conditions, is suggested. The distance from the point of vortex generation to the point of vortex collapsing acts as effective distance of cavity resonance, and the phase difference between the point of vortex collapsing and the point of acoustic source acts as phase lag. The mechanism of acoustic generation is fully understood in this paper. The mechanism of acoustic generation is fully understood in this paper.

Separation of MEK(methylethylketone) was carried out experimentally by a flat membrane contactor using a variety of extracting organic compounds. A correlation equation of Sherwood number was determined in terms of Reynolds number and Schmidt number for the flat membrane contactor system. This correlation equation was applied to get theoretically the overall mass transfer coefficient of MEK: it was compared to the experimental one. It was found that they are in good agreement.

The roughness coefficients were estimated by the Manning's equation for the measured stage and flow velocity of Bocheong stream basin in Kum river. The relationships between the estimated roughness coefficients and the geomorphologic factors were formulated by the linear, logarithmic, exponential and power type function, thereafter correlation equations were presented. The correlation analysis was performed between the measured stream length and the basin area of Bocheong stream basin by the linear, logarithmic, exponential and power type function, and correlation equation for the stream length was given. The roughness coefficient has strong correlationship with stream slope, but low correlation coefficients with stream length and basin area. For the correlationship with the roughness coefficients and the stream slope, the logarithmic type function has the smallest correlation coefficient, on the other hand, the exponential type function has the largest correlation coefficient. For the relationship between the stream length and the basin area, the correlation coefficient of the logarithmic type function shows the smallest value, linear type function shows the largest value.

This paper studies on arrangement of load correlation coefficient for advanced load management. To accurate load correlation coefficient, we used two real factors, electrical energy(kWh) and peak load current of pole transformers, acquired by measuring instrument. Out of several correlation equations, we find that the quadratic equation is the most accurate to express peak load current and working electrical energy. If the data is located in the outside of ${\pm}3{\sigma}$ it is discarded. For load management, we rearranged load correlation coefficient considering +2${\sigma}$ at load correlation equation. Comparing conventional load correlation coefficient with rearranged one, we can get the result of error reduced and it is adjacent to the actual data. It will be used peak load forecasting from working electrical energy and we are able to prevent from the damaging of pole transformer due to overload.
We propose an improved interpolating equation to express temperature-resistance characteristics for modern industrial platinum resistance thermometers (PRTs). Callendar-van Dusen equation which has been widely used for platinum resistance thermometer fails to fully describe temperature characteristics of high quality PRTs and leaves systematic residual when the calibration point include temperatures above $300^{\circ}C$. Expanding Callendar-van Dusen to higher-order polynomial drastically improves the uncertainty of the fitting even with reduced degrees of freedom of the fitting. We found that in the fourth-order polynomial fitting, the third-order and fourth-order coefficients have a strong correlation. Using the correlation, we suggest an improved interpolating equation in the form of fourth-order polynomial, but with three fitting parameters. Applying this interpolating equation reduced the uncertainty of the fitting to 32 % of that resulted from the traditional Callendar-van Dusen. This improvement was better than that from a simple third-order polynomial despite that the degrees of the freedom of the fitting was the same.

Prediction of performance and operating characteristics of a state-of-the-art ultra-supercritical (USC) steam turbine is an important issue in many ways. Theoretical and empirical correlation equations, developed a few decades ago, have been widely used in commercial programs for a prediction of performance. To improve of these correlation equations and apply them to the high pressure turbine of a USC steam turbine, computational fluid dynamic analysis was carried out and correlation equations to calculate efficiency variation of each stage were made. Both fluid dynamic characteristic and thermodynamic performance was analyzed for the development of the correlation equations. In particular, the impact of flow addition through an overload valve (OLV) between stages was examined throughly. The trend of pressure drop due to the flow mixing by the OLV flow addition was analyzed and an efficiency correlation equation considering the OLV flow was also made.
