  • Geometric correction is a critical step to remove geometric distortions in satellite images. For correct geometric correction, Ground Control Points (GCPs) have to be chosen carefully to guarantee the quality of corrected satellite images. In this paper, we present an automatic approach for geometric correction by constructing GCP Chip database (GCP DB) that is a collection of pieces of images with geometric information. The GCP DB is constructed by exploiting Landsat's nadir-viewing property and the constructed GCP DB is combined with a simple block matching algorithm for efficient GCP matching. This approach reduces time and energy for tedious manual geometric correction and promotes usage of Landsat images.

  • A new high power factor converter using transformer magnetizing energy for power factor correction with a single-switch/single-stage is proposed. The proposed converter gives the good power factor correction, low current harmonic distortions, and tight output voltage regulation. The prototype shows the IEC555-2 requirements are met satisfactorily with nearly unity power factor.

  • This paper is related to the correction of radiometric distortions induced by topographic relief. RADARSAT SAR image data were obtained over the mountainous area near southern part of Seoul. Initially, the SAR data was geometrically corrected and registered to plane rectangular coordinates so that each pixel of the SAR image has known topographic parameters. The topographic parameters (slope and aspect) at each pixel position were calculated from the digital elevation model (DEM) data having a comparable spatial resolution with the SAR data. Local incidence angle between the incoming microwave and the surface normal to terrain slope was selected as a primary geometric factor to analyze and to correct the radiometric distortions. Using digital maps of forest stands, several fields of rather homogeneous forest stands were delineated over the SAR image. Once the effects of local incidence angle on the radar backscatter were defined, the radiometric correction was performed by an empirical fuction that was derived from the relationship between the geometric parameters and mean radar backscatter. The correction effects were examined by ground truth data.

  • seismic crosshole tomography works applying borehole deviation correction were performed at a test site to detect a small cavity. Two correction methods were applied. The one is the constant distance correction which adds constant distance to surface borehole distance and the other is the constant angle correction which considers an angle between surface borehole location and bottom borehole location. After applying the corrections, the distortions of the image diminished while its resolution improved. Though the constant angle correction is the most appropriate correction method, the constant distance correction can delineate the small cavity sufficiently.

  • Ophthalmoscopy following the intravenous injection of fluorescein has gained great diagnostic importance in ophthalmology. This technique provides sequential evaluation of the anatomic and physiologic status of the choroidal and retinal vasculature. In order to detect the changes between fluorescein ocular fundus image frames, the direct subtraction of the two frames is inadequate because of geometric distortions and background gray level differences in two images. In this study, a scheme for the correction of the geometric distortions is proposed. Precise control point coordinate values for transformation functions are manually determined after the process including a series of blood vessel detection and thinning, and one frame is mapped to another, and then a geometric distortion corrected image is obtained. When the corrected image is used in interframe change detections, a sucessful result is ensured.

  • The static correction, which is classified into refraction based static correction and reflection based residual static correction, removes distortions caused by irregularities of thickness or velocity in near-surface. Generally, refraction statics is a time consuming process because of high dependence on the interpreter's analysis. Therefore, for huge 3D seismic data, automatic static correction which minimizes the interpreter's analysis is required. In this research, we introduce an efficient method of refraction static correction for land 3D seismic survey.

  • This study aims to investigate the effects of fiscal policy instruments on economic growth in Jordan using annual data from 1970 to 2019, by applying the VAR model (Vector Auto regression) and the Vector Error Correction Model (VECM). The study also examines the dynamic relationship among economic variables over time using the Granger casualty test, Impulse Response Function, and Variance Decomposition. The results show that not only the public expenditures have a positive effect on economic growth in Jordan, but also the tax revenues positively affect the economic growth in the short-run, and this is because of using the tax revenues to finance the government activities in Jordan. This effect becomes negative in the long run, and this is explained because the tax seems a source of distortions in the economy, The extreme taxes may cause huge distortions in the economy, and these distortions destroys the purchasing power, the aggregate demand, and supply. More governmental dependence on tax revenues is the main source of tax evasion and less efficiency. The effect of taxation will curb any prosperity in the economy. Therefore, the government should estimate the fair tax rates to generate sufficient revenues to finance the public expenditure required to enhance economic prosperity.

  • A conventional Single-Stage Power-Factor-Correction (PFC) AC/DC converter has a link capacitor voltage problem under high line input and low load conditions. In this paper, this problem is analyzed by using the voltage conversion ratio of the DC/DC conversion cell. By applying this analysis, a new Single-Stage PFC AC/DC converter with a boost PFC cell integrated with a Voltage-Doubler Rectified Asymmetrical Half-Bridge (VDRAHB) is proposed. The proposed converter features good power factor correction, low current harmonic distortions, tight output regulations and low voltage of the link capacitor. An 85W prototype was implemented to show that it meets harmonic requirements and standards satisfactorily with near unity power factor and high efficiency over universal input.
