  • A wire-plate discharge system with a slit barrier has been proposed and investigated experimentally by focusing on the discharges on the slit barrier and ozone generation characteristics. This wire-plate discharge system with a slit barrier can generate an intensive corona discharges, and produce corona discharge twice, once from the corona wire electrode and second time from the surface and the slits of the slit dielectric barrier. As a result this propose wire-plate discharge system with the slit barrier can produce greatly increased ozone than without the slit barrier. This type of wire-plate discharge system with the slit barrier could be used for effective ozone generation as a means with retard to the removal of pollutant gas

중첩 방전 반응기에 의한 NOx의 분해 특성 (The Characteristics of Decomposition of NOx by Superposing Discharge Plasma Reactor)

  • 본 연구에서는 연소공정에서 발생하는 NOx를 제거하기 위해 연면방전과 AC Corona 방전을 중첩해서 특수설계 제작된 중첩방전 반응기의 방전분해 특성을 연구하였다. 실험은 SPCP, Corona Discharge 및 중첩방전에 대한 NOx의 분해율을 비교 측정하였다. 실험변수는 방전형태, 가스의 농도, 방전주파수, 가스의 유량 등에 대하여 측정하였다. 실험결과 중첩방전에 의한 NOx의 분해율은 SPCP방전고 Corona방전에 의한 분해율보다 10∼15[%] 증가하였고 소모전력도 10[%] 정도 작게 소모되었다. 중첩방전시 상부전극의 주파수의 영향은 주파수가 작을수록 NOx의 분해율이 높았고 하부전극의 SPCP만의 방전시에는 주파수가 높을수록 NOx의 분해율이 증가하였다. 방전형태에 대한 NOx의 최대분해율은 SPCP일 때 방전전력 18[W]에서 80[%] 이었고 AC코로나 방전일 때 방전전력 805[W]에서 10[%] 이었으나 중첩방전의 경우는 14[W]에서 90[%]로 중첩방전의 효과는 10[%]이상 증가하였다.

  • A high energy ignition system is essential for lean burn or high EGR gasoline engine, which is getting more and more interest to improve fuel economy. The high energy ignition systems comprise plasma jet, laser beam, corona discharge and so on. In this study, a high energy ignition system using corona discharge is developed and tested in a constant volume combustion chamber. The developed system shows extension of lean limit of propane-air mixture and enhencement of combustion speed. Various shape of corona discharge plugs are also tested and compared in this study.

진공 저온 플라즈마와 대기압 코로나 방전가공 PET 직물의 물리화학적 특성 (The Physicochemical Characteristics of PET Fabrics Treated with Low Temperature Glow Plasma and Atmospheric Corona Discharge)

  • The high value-added functionality for synthetic fiber can be considered through a plasma enhanced treatment. In this study, PET(Polyethyleneterephthalate) was treated with a glow plasma and corona treatment. Surface characteristics of treated fabric were investigated using electron scanning microscopy(SEM), contact angle, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy(XPS), tensile and adhesion strength. It was found that the contact angle showed $85.5^{\circ}$ for untreated fabric, $0^{\circ}$ for plasma and corona treatment at the condition of 200W for 7min. By XPS analysis, atomic ratio of O 1s/C 1s was increased from 0.27 to 0.43 by glow plasma and 0.27 to 0.41 by corona treatment at 200W for 7min, respectively. Glow plasma and corona treatment did not significantly change the tensile strength of PET fabric. Adhesion strength showed a substantial enhancement for the surface treated with the glow plasma, while corona treatment was adversely affected.

  • The goal of this study if the optimization of discharge electrode for pulsed corona discharge reactor located in thermal power plant. For this purpose, we have performed experiments of NO$_{x}$ removal rate by exchange of discharge electrode diameter and arrangement of discharge electrode in the non -thermal plasma reaction facility using a ethylene as additive. If the diameter and numbers of discharge electrode were larger, the NO$_{x}$ removal rate was higher. From these results, if we optimized the shape and installed numbers of discharge electrode at the pilot plant, we could increase the NO$_{x}$ removal rate with less amount of additive than current amount.mount.

  • Some interesting corona characteristics of a airgap of penpoint-to-plate with a tracing insulator paper has been investigated in a temperature and humidity controlled metal chamber. It is found that the positive and the negative carriers in the plasma region could be understood from the waterdrop traces on the paper, which indicate the bombardment by the one of electron or positive gas particle from the plasma region of near the point. It is also found that a corona discharge could be used as a means of a humidifying, since the discharge makes dispersion of watersprays from the penpoint. And the negative corona was more effective for waterspray dispersion than the positive ones.

  • The purpose of this research is to study on characteristics of corona ignitor which was designed for ignition of plasma, used at hard coating, surface treatment and thin film preparation, at high pressure. Corona ignitor composed of hollow type inner electrode and ring type external electrode. Though corona voltage increased with increasing distance between electrodes, corona discharge can be controlled stably. The gas flow in hollow type inner electrode and the construction between electrodes affect a length of corona flame and corona phenomenon. It is possible to ignite the . plasma, usually generated at low pressure(10 Torr), at high pressure(100 Torr) by corona ignitor.

  • In this study, the plasma-assisted $CO_2$ conversion characteristics were investigated in the streamer corona discharge and silent discharge reactors with dielectric of $Al_2O_3$, to improve the conversion efficiency $CO_2$. Some discharge characteristics of $CO_2$ as parameters of gap spacing and applied voltage frequency, in both corona and silent discharge reactor were also obtained. The maximum $CO_2$ conversion rate was 10.1 [%] under the 5.2 [W] of discharge power and 250 [Hz] of applied voltage frequency.

배연가스의 $NO_x$제거용 코로나 방전장치에서 OH 발광 스펙트럼 측정 및 관련 반응 연구 (Study on the Measurement of Emission Spectrum and Reaction Mechanism of OH Radical in the Nitrogen Corona Discharge System for Removal of $NO_x$ in Flue Gas)

  • We constructed a wire-cylinder type pulsed corona discharge system for $NO_x$ removal, which was operated in room temperature. A emission spectrometer was built with a boxcar averager and monochrometer equipped with photo-multiplier tube detector. The sensitivity of the emission spectrometer was greatly improved by synchronizing the emission spectrometer with pulsed corona discharge system using a triggered spark-gap switch. $N_2$ spectrum($c^3{\Pi}_u{\rightarrow}X^1{\Sigma}_g{^+}$) was measured in the range of 300 - 450 nm and oxidizing OH radical emission($A^2{\Sigma}^+{\rightarrow}X^2{\Pi}$) was measured in case $N_2$ was supplied with water bubbling. As wet gas composition of inlet $N_2$ supplied in the discharge system increased, the intensity of OH emission was increased and saturated at wet gas composition 50%. We also investigated additive effect of $C_2H_4,\;H_2O,\;H_2O_2$ on the intensity of OR emission and $NO/NO_2/NO_x$ reduction and analysed the related reaction mechanism in corona discharge process. $H_2O_2$ additive increased the intensity of OH emission and $NO/NO_x$ reduction.

Transesterification of Vegetable Oils in Pulsed-Corona Plasma Discharge Process

  • The biodiesel production characteristics in a pulsed-corona plasma reactor has been investigated through parametric tests. Transesterification of rapeseed oil together with camelina oil was done with the change of such variables as voltage of power, molar ratio, KOH catalyst and temperature. The energetic electrons emitted from pulsed-corona plasma has contributed to the enhancement of yield on rapeseed oil in short time (15 min). The higher yield on camelina oil was observed in 5 min. The optimal parameters were shown as the voltage of 23 kV, the molar ratio of 5/1, the content of KOH catalyst of 0.6 wt% and the temperature of $28^{\circ}C$ under the rotating rate of spark gap of 900 rpm.
