  • Periodic cellular core structures included in sandwich panels possess good stiffness while saving weight and only lately their potential to act as passive vibration filters is increasingly being studied. Classical homogeneous honeycombs show poor vibracoustic performance and only by varying certain geometrical features, a shift and/or variation in bandgap frequency range occurs. This work aims to investigate the vibration filtering properties of the AUXHEX "hybrid" core, which is a cellular structure containing cells of different shapes. Numerical simulations are carried out using two different approaches. The first technique used is the harmonic analysis with commercially available software, and the second one, which has been proved to be computationally more efficient, consists in the Wave Finite Element Method (WFEM), which still makes use of finite elements (FEM) packages, but instead of working with large models, it exploits the periodicity of the structure by analysing only the unit cell, thanks to the Floquet-Bloch theorem. Both techniques allow to produce graphs such as frequency response plots (FRF's) and dispersion curves, which are powerful tools used to identify the spectral bandgap signature of the considered structure. The hybrid cellular core pattern AUXHEX is analysed and results are discussed, focusing the investigation on the possible spectral bandgap signature heritage that a hybrid core experiences from their "parents" homogeneous cell cores.

  • We have measured the x-ray photoemission spectroscopy of cation deficient La0.970Mn0.970O3 as a function of temperature. Detailed results on the chemical shifts and changes in Mn 2p and Lp 3d core levels due to variation of temperature have been obtained. The Mn 2p 3/2 and 1/2 main peaks and La 3d core spectrum shift to lower binding energy levels with increasing temperature. This XPS behavior is correlated with the strength of localization of Mn3+. The Jahn-Teller effect due to Mn3+ besides the conventional random potential effects is likely to localize charge carriers in La-.970Mn0.970O3.

  • Structures of unprotonated [(NH3)n+(n = 1-6)] and protonated [NH4+(NH3)n-1(n = 1-6)] ammonia cluster cations have been optimized with ab initio Hartree-Fock (HF) and second-order MФller-Plesset (MP2)/6-31+G ** levels and the harmonic vibrational frequencies have also been evaluated. In unprotonated cluster cations, NH3+ forms as a central core of the first ammonia solvation shell. In protonated cluster cations, NH4+ forms as a central core. In unprotonated dimer and trimer cations, there are two types of isomers (hydrogen-bonded and head-to-head interactions). In both cluster cations, the hydrogen-bonded isomers are more stable. In the hydrogen-bonded dimer cation, the proton transfer reaction takes place from (NH3-HN+H2) to (NH4+-NH2). But in the other unprotonated cluster cations, the proton transfer does not take place. In unprotonated pentamer and hexamer, a NH3+ core has both interactions in a complex. On the other hand, in unprotonated tetramer a core has only the hydrogen-bonded type combined with neutral ammonia molecules. With increasing cluster cation size, the bond lengths [R(NN)] between two nitrogen atoms and the distances [R(N ...H)] of the hydrogen-bond increase reg-ularly. In the calculated infra-red absorption bands for ammonia cluster cations, the characteristic peaks of the bridged NH vibration of the hydrogen-bonded clusters appear near 2500 cm-1 . With increasing size, the peaks shift from 2306 cm-1 to 2780 cm-1 .

  • We have synthesized core-shell structured nanocrystals based on chalcopyrite-type $Cu_{0.2}InS_2$. The photoluminescence of the nanocrystals shows a significant blueshift in the emission wavelength by shell capping with ZnS layers. This shift can be explained with the compressive stress to core nanocrystals applied by the formation of a ZnS shell layer with a large lattice mismatch with the core. In this study, the emission wavelength could be tuned by changing the composition of the shell layers. Nanocrystals with emission wavelength ranging from 575 nm through 630 nm were synthesized by varying the portion of cadmium compared with zinc in the shell layers.

  • In this paper, we present an analytical method that provides fast and efficient evaluation of the power losses and the conversion efficiency for phase-shift controlled full-bridge converter. In the proposed method, the conduction losses are evaluated by calculating the effective values of the ideal current waveform first and incorporating them into an exact equivalent circuit model of the phase-shift controlled full-bridge converter that includes all the parasitic resistances of the circuit components. While the conduction losses are accurately accounted for the synchronous rectification, the core losses are assumed to be negligible in order to simplify the analysis. The validity and accuracy of the proposed method are verified with experiments on a prototype phase-shift controlled full-bridge converter. An excellent correlation between the experiments and theories are obtained for the input voltages of 400V, output voltage 12V and maximum power 720W.

  • The electronic structures of Al/RbF/tris-(8-hydroxyquinoline)aluminium ($Alq_3$) and $Al/CaF_2/Alq_3$interfaces were investigated using x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and ultraviolet photoelectron spectroscopy (UPS). For both systems, the UPS showed a significant valence band shift following the deposition of the thin fluoride layers on $Alq_3$. However, the formation of gap state in valence region and the extra peak N 1s core level spectra showed different trends, suggesting that the alkali fluoride and alkali-earth fluoride interlayer have different reaction mechanisms at the interface between Al cathode and $Alq_3$. In addition, the deposition of Al has considerably less effect on the valence band shift compared to the deposition of both RbF and $CaF_2$. These results suggest that the charge transfer across the interface and the resulting gap state formation may have lesser effect on the enhancement of organic light-emitting device performance than the observed valence band shift, which is thought to lower the electron injection barrier.

  • As technology related to digital imaging equipment is developed and generalized, digital imaging system is used for various purposes in fields of society. The object tracking technology from digital image data in real time is one of the core technologies required in various fields such as security system and robot system. Among the existing object tracking technologies, cam shift technology is a technique of tracking an object using color information of an object. Recently, digital image data using infrared camera functions are widely used due to various demands of digital image equipment. However, the existing cam shift method can not track objects in image data without color information. Our proposed tracking algorithm tracks the object by analyzing the color if valid color information exists in the digital image data, otherwise it generates the lightness feature information and tracks the object through it. The brightness feature information is generated from the ratio information of the width and the height of the area divided by the brightness. Experimental results shows that our tracking algorithm can track objects in real time not only in general image data including color information but also in image data captured by an infrared camera.

  • In this paper, we report numerically calculated results of testing a temperature-insensitive refractive sensor based on a planar-type long-period waveguide grating (LPWG). The LPWG consists of properly chosen polymer materials with an optimized thermo-optic coefficient for the core layer in a four-layer waveguide structure. The resonant wavelength shift below the spectral resolution of the conventional optical spectrum analyzer is obtained accurately over a temperature change of ${\pm}7.5^{\circ}C$ even without any temperature control. The refractive index sensitivity of the proposed grating scheme is about 0.004 per resonant wavelength shift of 0.1 nm for an optimized thermo-optic coefficient.

  • This paper is concerned with the deployment of core technologies for automotive steel sheets, based on the structural change of global market. The main tasks of automotive industry are to ensure the energy consumption, environmental regulations, and driving safety. With social and legal requirements, this study analyzes the market creation processes with technological innovations for hot rolled, cold rolled and galvanized steel sheets during the 20th century. It has been proven that the leading country in the steel industry was also that in the automotive. The purchaser-supplier relations of sheet materials are then patternized in the regional markets of the United States and Japan, who share nearly 50% of market in the world. According to the paradigm shift of globalization, the balance of power in Porter's 5 forces has been moved to the buyers', and both industries pursue Win-Win strategies such as the PNGV(Partnership for a New Generation of Vehicles ) and design-in system with the competition.
