  • In this study, a response spectrum analysis of an electric distributing board (EDB) was conducted to investigate seismic integrity in the design stage. For the seismic analysis, the required response spectra of a safe shutdown earthquake with 2% damping (RRS/SSE-2%) specified in GR-63-CORE Zone 4 was used as the ground spectral acceleration input. A finite element method modal analysis of the EDB was also performed to examine the occurrence of resonance within the frequency range of the earthquake response spectrum. Furthermore, static stress caused by deadweight was analyzed. The resultant total maximum stress of the EDB structure was calculated by adding the maximum stresses from both seismic and static loads using the square root of the sum of the squares (SRSS) method. Finally, the structural safety of the EDB was investigated by comparing the resultant total maximum stress with the allowable stress.

  • The microbiota-gut-brain axis, which refers to the bidirectional communication pathway between gut bacteria and the central nervous system, has a profound effect on important brain processes, from the synthesis of neurotransmitters to the modulation of complex behaviors such as sociability and anxiety. Previous studies have revealed that the gut microbiota is potentially related to not only gastrointestinal disturbances, but also social impairment and repetitive behavior-core symptoms of autism spectrum disorder (ASD). Although studies have been conducted to characterize the microbial composition in patients with ASD, the results are heterogeneous. Nevertheless, it is clear that there is a difference in the composition of the gut microbiota between ASD and typically developed individuals, and animal studies have repeatedly suggested that the gut microbiota plays an important role in ASD pathophysiology. This possibility is supported by abnormalities in metabolites produced by the gut microbiota and the association between altered immune responses and the gut microbiota observed in ASD patients. Based on these findings, various attempts have been made to use the microbiota in ASD treatment. The results reported to date suggest that microbiota-based therapies may be effective for ASD, but largescale, well-designed studies are needed to confirm this.

  • Objectives: Regression, while not a core symptom of autism spectrum disorder (ASD), has been suggested to be a distinct subtype by previous studies. Therefore, this study aimed to explore the prevalence and clinical differences between those with and without regression in children with ASD. Methods: This study includes data from toddlers and young children aged 2-7 years acquired from other projects at Seoul National University Bundang Hospital. The presence and characteristics of regression were explored using question items #11-28 from the Autism Diagnostic Interview-Revised. Chi-square and independent t-tests were used to compare various clinical measurements such as autistic symptoms, adaptative behavior, intelligence, and perinatal factors. Results: Data from 1438 young children (1020 with ASD) were analyzed. The overall prevalence rate of regression, which was mainly related to language-related skills, was 10.2% in the ASD group, with an onset age of 24 months. Regarding clinical characteristics, patients with ASD and regression experienced ASD symptoms, especially restricted and repetitive interests and behaviors, with greater severity than those without regression. Furthermore, there were significant associations between regression and hypertension/placenta previa. Conclusion: In-depth surveillance and proactive interventions targeted at young children with ASD and regression should focus on autistic symptoms and other areas of functioning.

  • This paper analyze spectrum of vibration-frequencies to reduce noise level of distribution transformer. Using loading back method on same condition of a real load to grasp the effect of core and winding which are caused by the transformer vibration. we were measured the vibration-frequency by varing applied voltage and load current of a transformer. The major cause of a transformer vibration is occured by the harmonic effects, and was identified that the vibration is less influenced by the coil. As the result of this paper, comparing the transformer with some isolated material with the general transformer the transformer with some isolated material could reduce spectral amplitude of vibration-frequencies.

  • The solar wind electrons are made of three or four distinct components, which are core Maxwellian background, isotropic halo, and super-halo (and sometimes, highly field-aligned strahl component which can be considered as a fourth element). We put forth a steady-state model for the solar wind electrons by considering both the steady-state particle and wave kinetic equations. Since the steady-state solar wind electron VDFs and the steady-state wave fluctuation spectrum are related to each other, we also investigate the complete fluctuation spectra in the whistler and Langmuir frequency ranges by considering halo- and superhalo-like model electron VDFs. It is found that the energetic electrons make important contributions to the total emission spectrum. Based on this, we complete the steady-state model by considering both the whistler and Langmuir fluctuations. In particular, the Langmuir fluctuation plays an important role in the formation and maintenance of nonthermal electrons.

  • Dynamics of a globular cluster (GC) is dominated by behaviors of high-mass components such as neutron stars or black holes (BHs). Massive components in a cluster are segregated into the cluster core and some of them are ejected by dynamical interactions. In this study, we perform N-body simulations of GCs adapting two BH mass components, $10M_{\odot}$ and $20M_{\odot}$. Previous studies which mostly assume single-mass BHs suggested a rapid collapsing and escaping of BHs. A cluster with a two-component BH mass spectrum, however, retains a large fraction of $10M_{\odot}$ BHs longer. In addition to their roles in cluster dynamics, massive components in binaries are one of important sources of gravitational waves (GWs). We investigate properties of BH binaries escaped from the cluster and discuss their implications for GW detection.

  • Azobenzene-cored dendrons having the photoisomerizable azobenzene core and terminal vinyl groups have been prepared. Absorption bands of azobenzene-cored dendrons are similar except more intense 280 nm band in higher generation azobenzene dendron. All three azobenzene-cored dendrons show reversible photoisomerization similar to simple azobenzene, irrespective of the generation of dendron. On 350 nm irradiation, absorption band around 344 nm decreases and 436 nm band increases. Photoisomerization reactions are very fast for all three azobenzene-cored dendron and the reaction efficiency is dependent of its generation and solvent. In the dark, slow thermal reversion to original absorption spectrum is observed.

  • The deterministic MOC code STREAM of the Computational Reactor Physics and Experiment (CORE) laboratory of Ulsan National Institute of Science and Technology (UNIST), was initially designed for the calculation of pressurized water reactor two- and three-dimensional assemblies and cores. Since fast reactors play an important role in the generation-IV concept, it was decided that the code should be upgraded for the analysis of fast neutron spectrum reactors. This paper presents a coupled code - TULIP/STREAM, developed for the fast reactor assembly and core calculations. The TULIP code produces self-shielded multi-group cross-sections using a one-dimensional cylindrical model. The generated cross-section library is used in the STREAM code which solves eigenvalue problems for a two-dimensional assembly and a multi-assembly whole reactor core. Multiplication factors and steady-state power distributions were compared with the reference solutions obtained by the continuous energy Monte-Carlo code MCS. With the developed code, a sensitivity study of the number of energy groups, the order of anisotropic PN scattering, and the multi-group cross-section generation model was performed on the keff and power distribution. The 2D core simulation calculations show that the TULIP/STREAM code gives a keff error smaller than 200 pcm and the root mean square errors of the pin-wise power distributions within 2%.

  • The tadpole H-ferritin produced in E. coli was purified and its molecular properties were investigated to obtain information about the contribution of the H-subunit in the reaction of iron core formation. All the expressed subunits were assembled into complete holoprotein in vitro, presumably 24-mer, and the protein was heat-stable. Electron microscopy revealed that the recombinant ferritin forms spherically and contains iron core. No difference was observed in the absorption spectrum of the expressed protein compared to that of the natural ferritin. The Ouchterlony double diffusion of the expressed protein showed that the H-chain ferritin shares an antigenic determinant with natural tadpole ferritin. Rabbit anti-horse spleen ferritin discriminated the H-ferritin from natural ferritin. The rate of ferritin formation by the recombinant H-chain apoferritin was determined to be higher than that shown by natural tadpole ferritin, which consists of H, M and L-subunits. This phenomenon may be caused by the absence of M and L-subunits in the recombinant H-chain apoferritin.
