  • Since construction work is an indispensable part of daily lives, complaints of noise are unavoidable. Noise control in construction sites is normally known as a regulation by a government and self-motivated noise controls rarely occur. In this paper, a marketing strategy is proposed to provide a potential value of noise control for real estate developer. First, people's perception to construction noise was examined in means of collecting and analyzing media reports between 2005 to 2011. Then decibel test was done in order to test noise generated by different devices in a construction site in various distances. According to the theory of core competency, a conceptual model was raised to illustrate profit and loss situation of the real estate developers in the case they invest more in noise control. The construction noise is discussed that it will ruin people's perception to the company's brand image and reputation. Also, the investment in the creation of silent site is discussed that it will not only bring benefit to the brand image work but also have value of profit in the market.

  • A digital focus index (DFI) is a value used to determine image focus in scientific apparatus and smart devices. Automatic focus (AF) is an iterative and time-consuming procedure; however, its processing time can be reduced using a general processing unit (GPU) and a multi-core processor (MCP). In this study, parallel architectures of a minimax search algorithm (MSA) are applied to two DFIs: range algorithm (RA) and image contrast (CT). The DFIs are based on a histogram; however, the parallel computation of the histogram is conventionally inefficient because of the bank conflict in shared memory. The parallel architectures of RA and CT are constructed using parallel reduction for MSA, which is performed through parallel relative rating of the image pixel pairs and halved the rating in every step. The array size is then decreased to one, and the minimax is determined at the final reduction. Kernels for the architectures are constructed using open source software to make it relatively platform independent. The kernels are tested in a hexa-core PC and an embedded device using Lenna images of various sizes based on the resolutions of industrial cameras. The performance of the kernels for the DFIs was investigated in terms of processing speed and computational acceleration; the maximum acceleration was 32.6× in the best case and the MCP exhibited a higher performance.

  • Segmenting the image into multiple regions is at the core of image processing. Many segmentation formulations of an images with multiple regions have been suggested over the years. We consider segmentation algorithm based on the multi-phase level set method in this work. Proposed method gives the best result upon other methods found in the references. Moreover it can segment images with intensity inhomogeneity and have multiple junction. We extend our method (GLIF) in [T. Dultuya, and M. Kang, Segmentation with shape prior using global and local image fitting energy, J.KSIAM Vol.18, No.3, 225-244, 2014.] using a multiphase level set formulation to segment images with multiple regions and junction. We test our method on different images and compare the method to other existing methods.

  • A core technology for implementation of Augmented Reality is to develop a merging algorithm between interesting 3-D objects and real images. In this paper, we present a 3-D object recognition method to decide viewing direction toward the object from camera. This process is the starting point to merge with real image and 3-D objects. Perspective projection between a camera and 3-dimentional objects defines a plane in 3-D space that is from a line in an image and the focal point of the camera. If no errors with perfect 3-D models were introduced in during image feature extraction, then model lines in 3-D space projecting onto this line in the image would exactly lie in this plane. • In fingerprints, singular regions including core or delta points have different directional characteristics from non-singular regions. Generally, the ridges of singular regions change more abruptly than those of nonsingular areas, thus in order to effectively enhance fingerprint images regardless of region, local ridge curvature information needs to be used. In this paper, we present an improved Directional Filter Bank (DFB)-based fingerprint image enhancement method that effectively takes advantage of such ridge curvature information. The proposed method first decomposes a fingerprint image into 8 directional subbands using the DFB and then classifies the image into background, low curvature, and high curvature regions using the directional energy estimates calculated from the subbands. Thereafter, the weight values for directional subband processing are determined using classification information and directional energy estimates. Finally, the enhanced image is obtained by synthesizing the processed subbands. The experimental results show that the proposed approach is effective in enhancing both singular and non-singular regions.

  • Cancer, like any disease, is a pathologic biological process. Drugs are designed to interfere with the pathologic process and should therefore also be validated using a functional screening method directed at these processes. Screening for cancers at an appropriate time and also evaluating results is also very important. Volumetric measurement helps in better screening and evaluation of tumors. Volumetry is a process of quantification of the tumors by identification (pre-cancerous or target lesion) and measurement. Volumetric image analysis allows an accurate, precise, sensitive, and medically valuable assessment of tumor response. It also helps in identifying possible outcomes such disease progression (PD) or complete response as per Response Evaluation Criteria in Solid Tumors (RECIST).
