  • The discussion about capacity development (CD) has been spotlighted as significant drivers for sustainable development in recent years. Multi-dimensional natures of capacities would lead to various definitions of CD in international institutes and organizations. CD is perceived as an endogeneous process to improve actionable learning and knowledge, but most of core capacities still remain abstract notion and might be unreliable in sustainable development (SD). The paper first explicates international perspectives of CD in association with SD. An agent-based model is especially proposed to portray more details of CD. It illuminates the role of assets (or capitals, resources) in agents to impact on ingredients of CDs that are drivers or enablers for improvement of SD. A definition of sustainable capacity development is firstly articulated in international society and its conceptual framework is also creatively designed to assist concerned international organizations. The paper concludes by proposing practical spatial asset mapping linking to agent-based organizational capacity as a tool for measuring sustainable capacity development.

  • Ubiquitous computing spans a very broad range of technologies and needs very complicated user's requirements. There are many scenarios and technologies involved in ubiquitous computing. We need new software development tools and methodology to meet the requirements. A software product line is one of promising new technology for it. A software product line is a set of software intensive systems that share a common, managed set of features satisfying the specific needs of a particular market segment or mission and that are developed from a common set of core assets. Software architecture-based development is the exploration and maturation of the role of software architecture in the product line life cycle. In this thesis, we identify the foundational concepts underlying software product lines and the essential activities to develop the mobile application systems. So, we define, design, and implement the Mobile Application System Architecture(MASA) that includes the development process for applying into mobile business domain and encompass scoping and gathering requirements for the Product line based on Component Based Development(CBD).

  • This study aims to analyze families and the kinship concepts in Korean laws based on meanings, boundaries, and functions. Korean culture is in the process of changing from traditional familism to democratic individualism, yet this is not a simple transition. In recent times, many people have come to look at family life from both traditional and individual perspectives, so their family values are inconsistent with each other. Therefore, this creates many family conflicts. As a result of this problem, I have analyzed families and the kinship concepts in Korean laws based on meanings, boundaries, and functions. Because laws regulate and reflect our everyday life, it is meaningful to review these laws. The results are as follow: First, the meaning of family in Korean laws is to respect other family members, and democratic family relationships. Second, the family boundaries are very different depending on the laws. The core boundary is the nuclear family, but in addition to the nuclear family, the parents of the wife and husband, the family of origin and the kin living together are included in the family member regulations. Third, the functions of the family are caring, education, rules for the living place, child discipline, supporting each other, guardianship for the family members, succession of family assets, and legal accusation rights. Kinship plays an important role in determining child guardianship, permission of a minor to marry, and authority over legal incompetency. Therefore, there are some contradictions between individualism and patriarchy in Korean laws, and these can have an influence on the conflicts between family members in the everyday life.

  • Software product line (SPL) engineering is an emerging paradigm for successful software reuse and has been adopted for various industrial and consumer products to improve their productivity and quality. However, most SPL methods require high initial costs and long development time, which makes many companies hesitate to adopt the SPL paradigm. In this paper we introduce a method to construct an SPL by extracting core assets from legacy components based on the feature model, which requires less initial time and effort. We also present a case study on cable set-top box software to illustrate the applicability of this method, and lessons learned that will provide guidelines for many companies to adopt the SPL paradigm.

  • Facing the 4th Industrial Revolution era, researches on artificial intelligence have become active and attempts have been made to apply machine learning in various fields. In the field of finance, Robo Advisor service, which analyze the market, make investment decisions and allocate assets instead of people, are rapidly expanding. The stock price prediction using the machine learning that has been carried out to date is mainly based on the prediction of the market index such as KOSPI, and utilizes technical data that is fundamental index or price derivative index using financial statement. However, most researches have proceeded without any explicit verification of the prediction rate of the learning data. In this study, we conducted an experiment to determine the degree of market prediction ability of basic indicators, technical indicators, and system risk indicators (AR) used in stock price prediction. First, we set the core parameters for each financial indicator and define the objective function reflecting the return and volatility. Then, an experiment was performed to extract the sample from the distribution of each parameter by the Markov chain Monte Carlo (MCMC) method and to find the optimum value to maximize the objective function. Since Robo Advisor is a commodity that trades financial instruments such as stocks and funds, it can not be utilized only by forecasting the market index. The sample for this experiment is data of 17 years of 1,500 stocks that have been listed in Korea for more than 5 years after listing. As a result of the experiment, it was possible to establish a meaningful trading strategy that exceeds the market return. This study can be utilized as a basis for the development of Robo Advisor products in that it includes a large proportion of listed stocks in Korea, rather than an experiment on a single index, and verifies market predictability of various financial indicators.

  • The current economic crisis is making new demands on manufacturing industry, in particular, in terms of the flexibility and efficiency of production processes. This requires production and administrative processes to be meshed with each other by means of IT systems to optimise the use and capacity utilisation of machines and lines but also to be able to respond rapidly to wrong developments in production and thus to minimise adverse impacts on the business. The future scenario of the "smart factory" represents the zenith of this development. The factory can be modified and expanded at will, combines all components from different manufacturers and enables them to take on context-related tasks autonomously. Integrated user interfaces will still be required at most for basic functionalities. The complex control operations will run wirelessly and ad hoc via mobile terminals such as PDAs or smartphones. The comnination of IoT, and Big Data optimisation is bringing about huge opportunities. these processes are not just limited to manufacturing, anywhere a supply chain environment exists can benefit from information provided by linked devices and access to big data to inform their decision support. Building a smart factory with smart assets at its core means reaching those desired new levels of productivity and efficiency. It means smart products that leverage advanced traceability, connectivity and intelligence. For businesses, it means being able to address the talent crunch through more autonomous. In a Smart Factory, machinery and equipment will have the ability to improve processes through self-optimization and autonomous decision-making.

  • Medical clinics are core institutes that cover the primary medical care in Korea. Financial viability of the clinics is essential for them to conduct their roles and functions, and can be improved by increasing their operating profitability. On this ground, this study aimed at finding important factors that affect the operating profitability, and thereby at suggesting strategic alternatives that can contribute to the improvement of the profitability. Operating margin was set as a dependent variable, and such factors as general management conditions, number of visits, medical revenue, marketing activities, input resources, medical cost as independent variables. Nineteen hypotheses related to the variables were established and tested using data collected from 138 sample clinics for the year 2003. The results of the study are as follows : Firstly, such variables as percent ratio of the depreciation plus rent costs to total administration costs, type of clinical department manifested whether medical, surgical, or quasi-surgical, percent ratio of the interior facility investment to total fixed assets, and total number of outpatient visit are important factors that affect, positively or negatively, the medical profitability of the clinics. Secondly, following measures are needed to be established and implemented to improve the medical profitability. (1) Administration costs share 53.2% of the total medical costs, and depreciation plus rent costs 16.3% of the total administration costs. This implies that such measures as reinforcement of marketing activities, establishment of the cooperative utilizing system of the facility and equipment, or group practice are needed to increase cost-effectiveness. (2) Occupancy rate of the clinics with inpatient bed is as low as 45.5%, causing high fixed costs and low medical profitability. For its improvement, the resource input structure should be reorganized. Thirdly, in the future, a study that can increase sample representativeness of the study and explanation power of the variables should be performed for each type of clinical department to find more specific determinant factors and to contribute to the improvement of the medical profitability of the clinics.

  • Recently, the requirements of the embedded software are getting diverse as the diversity of embedded software application fields increases. The systematic development methods are issued to deal with the dependency between hardware and software. However, the existing development methods have not considered the software's close connection to hardware and the high-level reusability for common requirements of several similar domains. In this paper, we propose a design method of development process model of product lines to support an efficient development method for embedded software. For this, we firstly suggest a domain scoping method and an IDEF0(Integration DEFinition)-based business model for extracting the efficient requirements. Next, we present a component deriving method based on the service architecture and an architecture design method after considering the hardware dependency. And we explain the artifacts of MSDFS(Multi Sensor Data Fusion System) at each design step in order to show how the proposed model can be applied to the embedded software development.
