In order to analyze the characteristics of series arcs that could happen in poor connections of electrical facilities, we made an apparatus which is similar to actual situation. series arcs are generated between copper and copper, copper and bronze, copper and brass, bronze and bronze, and then oxidation growth and voltage waveform were measured. A very small vibration with constant movement is needed to grow oxidation initially, whereas oxidation growth proceeded without a vibration after a certain amount of time. At first, blue white flame was generated initially between copper and copper, and then yellow flame was generated. In case of contact between copper and copper, the length of oxidation growth was about 7.1[mm] in 90[min]. In case of contact between copper and brass, the length of oxidation growth was about 4.3[mm] in 90[min], When bronze is contacted with copper, the lengths of oxidation growth were about 1.4[mm] in 20[min] and 2.7[mm] in 40[min] respectively, and no more oxidation growth was shown after that. In case of contact between brass and brass, the length of oxidation growth was about 1.2[mm] in 90[min], so it was the smallest compared to other cases. When copper is contacted with copper, the current through the load was about 1.6[A] and the power dissipation increased from 19[W] to 31[W]. In case of oxidation growth between copper and brass, the voltage changed from 8.4[V] to 11[V]. However, the voltage drop and the power dissipation between copper and brass were small compared to oxidation growth between copper and copper. When series arcs were generated between bronze and copper, a peak was shown at the beginning of voltage increase, and 40[min] later, oxidation material was not grown any longer. When oxidation growth occurred, voltage waveform showed irregular waveforms with tiny ripples.
Effects of various concentrations of copper on growth change of blue-greenalgae Anabaena flos-aquae were studied. There was significant differences among cultures treated with various concentrations of copper in growth of algae with parameters of cell numbers, specific growth rate (SGR) and chlorophyll contents. Algal growth and SGR were inhibited on by effect of various concentrations of copper more than without copper (ANOVA, F=34.69 p<0.001, F=114.89, p<0.001). The SGRs of various concentrations of copper in media were higher than without copper on 8 days after copper treated. The mean of chlorophyll contents was 1.978 ${\mu}g{\cdot}mL^{-1}$ and 1.648 ${\mu}g{\cdot}mL^{-1}$, respectively, while those of algae in culture without copper was 3.179 ${\mu}g{\cdot}mL^{-1}$ (ANOVA, F=153.74, p<0.001). The cellular morphology was different between media of which copper treated and without copper. The colony of algae in media which copper treated was shorter than without copper. Effects of various concentrations of copper on growth change of blue-green-algae Anabaena flos-aquae occured variety changes of parameters of cell numbers, specific growth rate (SGR), chlorophyll contents and cellular morphology on growth of algae.
This experiment was carried out to investigate the effects of heavy metals (copper, cadmium, lead and chrome) on the growth of plant and seed germination of Arabidopsis thaliana treated with various concentrations of heavy metals. Cadmium and chrome among the 4 heavy metals had no effect on the growth of stem even in the concentration fifty times higher than the official standard concentration of pollutant exhaust notified by the Ministry of Environment. The official standard concentration of cadmium, however, stimulated the growth of stem in general, increasing leaf size and surface area, although it had no effect on the length of stem. But the growth of stem was decreased about 18% in the official standard concentration of pollutant exhaust of lead and copper. There was no growth of root in the concentration of lead and copper ten times higher than the official standard concentration. Cadmium and chrome had no effect on the seed germination, but lead and copper decreased the rate of seed germination. Seeds were not germinated in the concentration of copper ten times higher than the official standard concentration and in the concentration of lead fifty times higher than the official standard concentration. From this research three peculiar results were obtained. Chrome in the soil did not have much effect on the plant growth and seed germination of Arabidopsis thaliana. Cadmium stimulated the stem growth in an optimum concentration. But lead and copper reduced the plant growth and seed germination even in a small concentration, especially copper had the worse effect.
Effects of various concentrations of copper in solid fibrous form and methylglyoxal (MG) on phosphorus uptake and growth change of green algae Scenedesmus obliquus were studied. There was significant differences among cultures treated with various concentrations of copper and MG in growth of algae with parameters of cell numbers, photosynthetic rate and cellular morphology, and phosphorus uptake by cell. When the copper in media is treated with 25 mg or 50 mg per 100 ml of Bristol solution, the mean cell number of algae was 15.642${\times}$10$\^$6/ cells$.$ml$\^$-1/ and 12.986${\times}$10$\^$6/ cells$.$ml$\^$-1/, respectively, while those of algae in culture without copper was 18.486${\times}$10$\^$6/ cells$.$ml$\^$-1/. The mean cell area of 2450 ${\mu}$m$^2$, 1894 ${\mu}$m$^2$and 1697 ${\mu}$m$^2$in basic media, basic media with 25 mg of copper and basic media with 50 mg of copper was showed the inhibitory effect of copper on algal growth. The algal growth was stimulated by MG when the culture was treated with 25 mg of copper or without copper, while it was inhibited when the culture was treated with 50 mg of copper. It was considered that there was significant interaction between copper and MG on algal growth. The phosphorus concentration in algal medium treated with 25 mg or 50 mg of copper was 29.435 ppm and 26.224 ppm, respectively, while those of algae in culture without copper was 52.8 ppm, which shows that the application of copper in algal medium can prevent the availability of phosphorus to algal cell.
The growth of Korean axolotl., Hynobius leechii, was analyzed in natural water as control group and in six copper ion groups contaminated by 0.1, 0.2, 0.3, 0.4, 0.5, 0.6 ppm of copper ion. The copper ion checks the growth of the axolotl. The axolotl was not survived during 30 days in the copper ion of 0.3ppm, and, in the 0.4ppm the axolotl was not survived during 10 days after hatch. The growth of head width and body length show a convexing increase pattern, while that of hind leg shows a concaving increase pattern. The copper ion checks the development of hind leg. In the growth quantity of head width, body length and hid leg, that of natural water show the most rapid increase pattern, and copper ion groups of 0.1, 0.2, 0.3ppm follow in that order. The coefficient of relative growth($\alpha$) of control group is the greater value, and the copper ion groups of 0.1, 0.2, 0.3ppm follow in that order. The contaminated groups show the negative allometry in the relative growth of the containated groups to the natural water. Body length shows positive allometry, while hind leg shows negative allometry in the relative growth to head width.
The significant creep in copper takes place at relatively low temperature and applied stress. Thus the study on modeling of creep behavior using the copper should provide researchers with benefits such as time for the test. In this study, a test of creep crack growth regarding copper was performed at 400 and $500^{\circ}C$, and analyzed. As result, the crack growth rate at $500^{\circ}C$ turned out to be 10 times higher than that at $400^{\circ}C$ in terms of $C^*$, while the crack growth rate at $500^{\circ}C$ was several hundreds times higher than that at $400^{\circ}C$ in terms of K. Moreover, a linear relationship between the crack growth rate and $C^*$ at the same temperature was established.
The effect of culture medium copper availability on the specific growth rate(${\mu}$) and carbon conversion efficiency (CCE) was sutided for an obligatory methanotroph Methylosinus trichosporium OB3b under various combinations of carbon and nitrogen sources. Methane or methanol was used as a carbon source, and nitrate or ammonium was used as a nitrogen source. Medium copper availability determined the intracellular location or kind of methane monooxygenase (MMO), cell-membrane (particulate or pMMO) when copper was present and cytoplasm (soluble or sMMO) when copper was deficient. When methane was used as a carbon source, copper-containing medium exhibited higher ${\mu}$ and CCE than copper-free medium regardless of the kind of nitrogen source. When methanol was used as a carbon source, however, the effect of copper disappeared. Ammonium gave the higher ${\mu}$ and CCE than nitrate for both methane and methanol. Those observation suggest that there exist an important difference in energy utilization efficiency for methane assimilation between sMMO and pMMO.
The author hatched the eggs of Korean frog, Rana nigromaculata in natural water, and reared the tadpoles in natural water as control group and in seven copper ion groups contaminated by 0.1, 0.2, 0.3, 0.4, 0.5, 0.7, and 1.0 ppm of copper ion. The influences of copper ion on the growth of the tadpoles were analyzed, and the results were summarized as follows: 1) The copper ion inhibited the growth of the tadpole. 2) The tadpoles were not survived for 20 days in the copper ion of 0.4~0.5ppm, and in the 0.7ppm, the tadpoles were not survived for 1 day after hatch. 3) The critical lethal concentration of Korean tadpole is regarded as 0.6ppm of copper ion. 4) The growth of head with and body length show a convexin increase pattern. 5) In the growth quantity of head width and body length, that of natural water shows the most rapid increase pattern, and that of the copper ion groups 0.1, 0.2, and 0.3ppm follows in that order. 6) The coefficient of relative growth($\alpha$) of control group is the greatest value, and that of the copper ion groups of 0.1, 0.2, and 0.3ppm follows in that order. The natural water shows the positive allometry, the contaminated groups shows the negative allometry in the relative growth of the contaminated groups to the natural water. 7) Body length shows positive allometry in the relative growth to head width.

Models based on diffusion-limited aggregation (DLA) have been extensively used to explore the mechanisms of dendritic particle aggregation phenomena. The physical and chemical properties of systems in which DLA aggregates emerge are given in their fractal. In this paper, we present a comprehensive study of the growth of electrodeposited copper dendrites in flat plate electrochemical cells from a fractal perspective. The effects of growth time, applied voltage, copper ion concentration, and electrolyte acidity on the morphology and fractal dimension of deposited copper were examined. 'Phase diagram' set out the variety of electrodeposited copper fractal morphology analysed by metallographic microscopy. The box counting method confirms that the electrodeposited dendritic structures manifestly exhibit fractal character. It was found that with the increase of the voltage and copper ion concentration. The fractal copper size becomes larger and its morphology shifts towards a dendritic structure, with the fractal dimension fluctuating around 1.60-1.70. In addition, the morphology of the deposited copper is significantly affected by the acidity of the electrolyte. The increase in acidity from 0.01 to 1.00 mol/L intensifies the hydrogen precipitation side reactions and the overflow path of hydrogen bubbles affects the fractal growth of copper dendrites.

The hexagonal boron nitride (h-BN) sheet, a 2D material like graphene sheet, is comprised of boron and nitrogen atoms. Similar to graphene, h-BN sheet has attractive mechanical properties while it has a wide band gap unlike graphene. Recently, many experimental groups studied the growth of single BN layer by chemical vapor deposition (CVD) method on the copper substrate. To study the initial stage of h-BN growth on the copper surface, we have performed density functional theory calculations. We investigate several adsorption sites of a boron or nitride atom on the Cu surfaces. Then, by increasing the number of adsorbed B and N atoms, we study formation behaviors of the BN flakes on the surface. Several types of BN flakes atoms such as triangular, linear, and hexagonal shapes are considered on the copper surface. We find that the formation of the BN flake in triangular shape is most favorable on the surface. On the basis of the theoretical results, we discuss the growth mechanism of h-BN layer on the copper surfaces in terms of its shapes in the initial stage of growth.
