The rapid deployment of millions of mobile sensors and smart devices has resulted in high demand for opportunistic encounter-based networking. For the cooperative video surveillance of dashboard cameras in nearby vehicles, a fast and energy-efficient asynchronous neighbor discovery protocol is indispensable because a dashboard camera is an energy-hungry device after the vehicle's engine has turned off. In the existing asynchronous neighbor discovery protocols, all nodes always try to discover all neighbors. However, a dashboard camera needs to discover nearby dashboard cameras when an event is detected. In this paper, we propose a fast and energy-efficient asynchronous neighbor discovery protocol, which enables nodes : 1) to have different roles in neighbor discovery, 2) to discover neighbors within a search range, and 3) to report promptly the exact discovery result. The proposed protocol has two modes: periodic wake-up mode and active discovery mode. A node begins with the periodic wake-up mode to be discovered by other nodes, switches to the active discovery mode on receiving a neighbor discovery request, and returns to the periodic wake-up mode when the active discovery mode finishes. In the periodic wake-up mode, a node wakes up at multiples of number ${\alpha}$, where ${\alpha}$ is determined by the node's remaining battery power. In the active discovery mode, a node wakes up for consecutive ${\gamma}$ slots. Then, the node operating in the active discovery mode can discover all neighbors waking up at multiples of ${\beta}$ for ${\beta}{\leq}{\gamma}$ within ${\gamma}$ time slots. Since the proposed protocol assigns one half of the duty cycle to each mode, it consumes equal to or less energy than the existing protocols. A performance comparison shows that the proposed protocol outperforms the existing protocols in terms of discovery latency and energy consumption, where the frequency of neighbor discovery requests by car accidents is not constantly high.
We propose several practical SMC protocols for privacy-preserving cooperative scientific computations. We consider two important scientific computations which involve linear equations: the linear systems of equations problem and the linear least-square problem. The protocols proposed in this paper achieve acceptable security in the sense of Du-Zhan's paradigm and t-wise collusion-resistance, and their communication complexity is O(tm), where t is a security parameter and m is the total number of participants. The complexity of our protocol is significantly better than the previous result O($m^2/{\mu}$) of [4], in which the oblivious transfer protocol is used as an important building block.

In this paper, our goal is to find a power-effective protocol that improves the accuracy of transmission in sensor networks. Therefore we propose a cooperative communication protocol based on MRC(Maximal Ratio Combining) and cyclic code. In our proposal, one sensor node assists two others to communicate with a clusterhead that can get diversity effect and MRC can improve diversity effect also. The proposed protocol with cyclic code can correct error up to 3-bit and reduce decoding complexity compared with convolutional code. Simulation results reveal proposed protocol can save the network energy up to 6dB over single-hop protocol at BER(Bit Error Rate) of $10^{-2}$.

In this paper, we investigate a buffer-aided wireless powered cooperative communication network (WPCCN), in which the source and relay harvest the energy from a dedicated power beacon via wireless energy transfer, then the source transmits the data to the destination through the relay. Both the source and relay are equipped with an energy buffer to store the harvested energy in the energy transfer stage. In addition, the relay is equipped with a data buffer and can temporarily store the received information. Considering the buffer-aided WPCCN, we propose two buffer-aided relaying protocols, which named as the buffer-aided harvest-then-transmit (HtT) protocol and the buffer-aided joint mode selection and power allocation (JMSPA) protocol, respectively. For the buffer-aided HtT protocol, the time-averaged achievable rate is obtained in closed form. For the buffer-aided JMSPA protocol, the optimal adaptive mode selection scheme and power allocation scheme, which jointly maximize the time-averaged throughput of system, are obtained by employing the Lyapunov optimization theory. Furthermore, we drive the theoretical bounds on the time-averaged achievable rate and time-averaged delay, then present the throughput-delay tradeoff achieved by the joint JMSPA protocol. Simulation results validate the throughput performance gain of the proposed buffer-aided relaying protocols and verify the theoretical analysis.

In this paper, we propose a cooperative hybrid spectrum sharing protocol by jointly considering interweave (opportunistic) and underlay schemes. In the proposed protocol, secondary users can access the licensed spectrum along with the primary system. Our network scenario comprises a single primary transmitter-receiver (PTx-PRx) pair and a group of M secondary transmitter-receiver (STx-SRx) pairs within the transmission range of the primary system. Secondary transmitters are divided into two groups: active and inactive. A secondary transmitter that gets an opportunity to access the secondary spectrum is called "active". One of the idle or inactive secondary transmitters that achieves the primary request target rate $R_{PT}$ will be selected as a best decode-and-forward (DF) relay (Re) to forward the primary information when the data rate of the direct link between PTx and PRx falls below $R_{PT}$. We investigate the ergodic capacity and outage probability of the primary system with cooperative relaying and outage probability of the secondary system. Our theoretical and simulation results show that both the primary and secondary systems are able to achieve performance improvement in terms of outage probability. It is also shown that ergodic capacity and outage probability improve when the active secondary transmitter is located farther away from the PRx.

The cooperative communication systems using MIMO(multiple input multiple-output) relay are known as one of the most promising techniques to improve the performance and coverage of wireless communication systems. In this paper, we propose the cooperative communication systems using the relay with multi-antennas and DSTC(distributed space time coding) for decode-and-forward protocol. As using DSTC for DF(decode-and-forward), we can minimize the risk of error propagation at the wireless system using relay system. Also, the MIMO channel cab be formed by multi-antenna and DSTC at the MS(mobile station)-RS(relay station) and at the RS-BS(base station). Therefore, obtaining truly constructive the MIMO diversity and cooperative diversity gain from the proposed approach, the performance of system can be more improved than one of conventional system (relay with single antenna, no relay). The improvement in bit error rate is investigated through numerical analysis of the cooperative communication system with the proposed approach.

Conventional wireless sensor network(WSN) has limited power and bandwidth. In order to develop multimedia sensor technology, high data rate communication systems are required. Cooperative communication system can help to decrease power consumption through spatial diversity. In cooperative transmission, one partner node assists one sensor node to transmit their data to destination. Instead of using M partners for M sensor nodes, we propose 1 partner for M sensor nodes. Proposed protocol offers similar diversity order as conventional one with much less bandwidth and hardware. It is able to almost reduce scattered nodes interference using orthogonal sub-carriers. In addition, we examined a power allocation between sensor nodes and relay that optimize the system performance.
In a warehouse, because there exist frequent changes of stock status and the quality of some contents are influenced by the environment such as temperature, fast and accurate management of the warehouse's environment is very important for Warehouse Management Systems (WMS). However, due to the absence of a unified standard for the communication protocol between RFID nodes, the connection between RFID nodes can be broken in case of movement of a RFID reader to a region with a different protocol. Moreover, centralized MAC schemes for RFID communications in previous studies have severe problems. For an example, if a cluster header disappears from the cluster due to the cluster header's movement or bad channel conditions, the RFID member nodes of the cluster waste lots of time and energy to re-elect a new cluster header. Therefore, in this paper, we propose a WiMedia Distributed MAC (D-MAC) scheme for RFID communications and its cooperative relay transmission scheme for WMS applications Simulation results show performance improvement at the RFID node by using the proposed cooperative relay transmission scheme.

In this paper, multiple-relay cooperative communication network with multiple antennas is considered. Applying the soft-decision-and-forward protocol to this system, pairwise error probability(PEP) is derived and then symbol error rate(SER) is also calculated. However, in general, signals are transmitted through the orthogonal channel in the multiple-relay cooperative communication network for the prevention of interference, which is inefficient in terms of the throughput. For the improvement of throughput, the relay selection is considered, where the relay having the maximum instantaneous end-to-end signal-to-noise ratio is chosen. Performance of the system is analyzed in terms of PEP and SER. As the number of the relay increases, relay selection method outperforms the conventional multiple-relay transmission system where all relays participate in the second time slot.

In this paper, In this paper, we propose a Cooperative Routing Protocol (CooRP) for supporting network convergence and transmission services efficiently in mobile ad-hoc wireless sensor networks with Rayleigh fading environments. The main contributions and features of this paper are as follows. First, the routing routes are decided on route stability based on entropy concepts using mobility of nodes within the direction guided line region to increase the operational lifetime of routes as well as reduce control overhead for route construction. Second, a cooperative data transmission strategy based on the constructed stable routing route is used to increase packet delivery ratio with advanced SNR. Third, a theoretical analysis for cooperative data transmission of the proposed CooRP with outage probability is presented. The performance evaluation of the proposed CooRP is performed via simulation using OPNET and analysis. The results of performance evaluation show that the proposed CooRP by using stable routing routes and cooperative transmission can increase packet delivery ratio efficiently.
