The Effect of a Vortex Chamber Diameter Ratio on Energy Separation (보텍스 생성실 지름비가 에너지 분리에 미치는 영향)

  • As an alternative cooling method to reduce environmental hazard, vortex tubes have been studied for energy separation into cold and hot streams. Hence, the experiments were carried out systematically to find the best ratio of vortex chamber diameter to tube diameter. Also, the work was don to investigate how inlet pressure and geometric ratios of vortex tube affected temperature differences at tow needs as ell as cooling capacity and cooling efficiency. The result showed that the maximum temperature differences at the both ends and the maximum cooling efficiency were obtained when the ratio of vortex chamber diameter was about 1.45, while the inlet pressure ws not higher than 0.7 MPa.

Temperature characteristics of condenser and evaporator of Air-conditioner applying variable capacity compressor under cooling condition (가변용량 압축기를 적용한 에어컨의 냉방운전 시 응축 및 증발온도 특성)

  • In order to investigate the cooling capacity of an air-conditioner applying a variable capacity compressor and the temperature characteristics on a condenser and an evaporator, the experiment on the operation characteristics of the air-conditioner was performed along a compressor operation ratio and an indoor/outdoor temperatures, under a cooling operation mode. The system characteristics were measured by the psychrometric calorimeter. The cooling capacity increased with decreasing the outdoor temperature and increasing the indoor temperature. Also, it increased with increasing the compressor operation ratio. The temperature of the condenser was more sensitive for the variation of the outdoor temperature and the temperature of the evaporator was more sensitive for the variation of the indoor temperature. The operation characteristics of the cycle used in this present were also analyzed by a pressure-enthalpy chart.

  • As the size of semiconductor devices decreases, the etching pattern becomes very narrow and a deep high aspect ratio process becomes important. The cryogenic etching process enables high aspect ratio etching by suppressing the chemical reaction of reactive ions on the sidewall while maintaining the process temperature of -100℃. ESC is an important part for temperature control in cryogenic etching equipment. Through the cooling path inside the ESC, liquid nitrogen is used as cooling water to create a cryogenic environment. And since the ESC directly contacts the wafer, it affects the temperature uniformity of the wafer. The temperature uniformity of the wafer is closely related to the yield. In this study, the cooling path was designed and analyzed so that the wafer could have a uniform temperature distribution. The optimal cooling path conditions were obtained through the analysis of the shape of the cooling path and the change in the speed of the coolant. Through this study, by designing ESC with optimal temperature uniformity, it can be expected to maximize wafer yield in mass production and further contribute to miniaturization and high performance of semiconductor devices.

  • Turbine inlet temperature is steadily increasing to achieve high specific thrust and efficiency of gas turbine engines. Turbine cooling technology is essential to increase turbine inlet temperature. For this study, a small or medium sized aircraft engine of 10,000 lbf class with the turbine inlet temperature of $1,400^{\circ}C$, the engine overall pressure ratio of 32.2, and the bypass ratio of 5 was set as the baseline model and its performance analysis was performed at the design point. The engine has the performance of 10,013 lbf thrust and the specific fuel consumption of 0.362 lbm/hr/lbf. The thrust and the specific fuel consumption of the baseline model were compared with those of similar class engines. Based on these results, the turbine design requirements were assigned. In addition, the parametric analysis of the engine, related to aerodynamic and cooling design of the high pressure turbine, was performed. Based on the baseline model engine, the influence of turbine inlet temperature, cooling flow ratio, and high pressure turbine efficiency variations on the engine performance was analyzed.

  • The purpose of this study is to consider the performance and exhaust characteristics in the practical engine according to the cooling water temperature change of engine and to set up the optimum cooling condition and to obtain the optimum operating condition of thermostat in the cooling system. In order to accomplish the purpose of this study, authors have used the following procedure. 1. This study is to investigate the influence of the cooling water temperature on the engine performance and the exhaust gas, authors regulated the cooling water temperature by using the special closing circuit and measured the concentration of exhaust gas by using the exhaust gas measuring system in the exhaust pipe. 2. This study carried out the experiment by regulating the opening degree of throttle valve and engine speed in the dynamometer and by changing the cooling water temperature, at the same time kept air-fuel ratio constant and made the spark ignition time MBT(Minimum spark advance for Best Torque) 3. This study measured the cooling water temperature by using the K-type thermocouple centring around the easy over-heated parts and by installing a special closing circuit. Therefore, in this study, authors intend to examine the influence of the cooling water temperature on the engine performance, exhaust gas and present the basic materials needed in the engine design including the optimum operating time control system for the cooling water temperature.

  • Freezing of turbulent water flow between two horizontal cooled parallel plates with the separated region has been investigated experimentally. The flow separation was induced by vertical plates (two-dimensional plates) situated at the inlet of the rectangular channel. The degree of flow separation was varied by employing vertical thin plates with various heights. Three kinds of the vertical plates with 8.0, 9.8 and 12.5 mm in height were utilized. The Reynolds number and cooling temperature ratio were ranged from $3.45\times10^3 to 1.73\times10^4$ and 7.0 to 20.0 respectively, The measurements show that the flow separation influenced remarkably on the local ice formation characteristics. The location of the first ice layer and the average heat transfer at the ice surface were found be correlated as a function of the Reynolds number, the cooling temperature ratio, and the orifice height ratio.

An Effect on the Solution Crystallization Temperature Difference and Cooling Capacity of the Absorption Chiller by a Solution Cooler in the Absorber (흡수기내 용액 냉각기가 흡수식 냉동기의 용액 결정화 온도차와 냉각 용량에 미치는 효과)

  • The objective of the present work is to investigate an effect on the solution crystallization temperature difference and the cooling capacity of the absorption chiller by a solution cooler in the absorber. The cooling capacity of the absorption chiller can be higher, with the enhanced performance of the solution heat exchangers. But, because the solution crystallization temperature difference becomes smaller at the absorber inlet, the heat capacity of the solution heat exchangers might be limited by the danger of crystallization, which can cause the serious damages. In this paper, the heat capacity ratio of the solution cooler is defined as the ratio of the heat capacity of the solution cooler to that of the absorber. If it becomes larger in the additional type solution cooler, the solution crystallization temperature difference is augmented and the cooling capacity is also increased.

  • The objectives of this study are to analyze the application of radiant floor cooling and to evaluate the control methods through experiments when the radiant heating system is used for cooling. Through the experiment analysis the control methods such as on/off control, variable flow control and outdoor reset with indoor temperature feedback control are evaluated and compared. The cooling curve (reset ratio) is found for radiant cooling, which shows tole relation between outside air temperature and supply water temperature. Comparison of cooling methods shows that outdoor reset with indoor temperature feedback control is more appropriate than on/off control and variable flow control with regard to prevention of the condensation and thermal comfort.

  • Heat treatment such as quenching of a high-temperature cylinder is being used on steel to produce high strength levels. Especially, the mist cooling with the high and uniform surface heat flux rate s expected to contribute for better products. The experimental mist cooling curve is produced for better understanding, and two distinct heat transfer regions are recognized from the cooling curve produced. It is shown that the liquid film evaporation dominated region follows the film boiling-dominated region as decreasing the temperature of test cylinder by mist flow. Based on the intuitive view from some previous investigations, a simplified model with some assumptions is introduced to explain the mist cooling curve, and it is shown that the estimation agrees well with our experimental data. In the meanwhile, it is known that the wetting temperature, at which surface heat flux rate is a maximum, increases with mass flow rate ratio of water to air ($\varkappa$ < 10). However, based on our experimental data, it is explained that there exists a critical mass flow rate ratio, at which the wetting temperature is maximum, in the range of 3 < $\varkappa$ < 130. Also, it is described that despite of the same value of $\varkappa$, the wetting temperature may increase with mist velocity.

CSTC of High Strength Steel for ROT Process in Hot Strip Mills (열간압연 ROT에서 고강도강의 CSTC 개발)

  • This paper proposes a cooling stop temperature control(CSTC) concept which aims at obtaining the uniform temperature and quality of the material along the longitudinal and lateral direction of the strip. The CSTC is designed using the experimental CCT(Continuous Cooling Transformation), TTT(Time Temperature Transformation) curves and the temperature control model by the heat transfer governing equation, and the temperature control simulator. The cooling pattern and the rolling speed can be solved by the CSTC. It is shown through the field test of the hot strip mill of POSCO that the phase transformation ratio of the high carbon steel is considerably improved by the proposed temperature control.
