A numerical procedure for analyzing the heat transfer in a regenerative cooling passage of liquid rocket has been developed. The thermal analysis is based on the numerical model of Naraghi〔1〕. The thermodynamic and transport properties of the combustion gases are evaluated using the chemical equilibrium composition. The pressure and heat flux obtained by the isentropic relation are in good agreement with the result of Navier-Stokes equations. The effect of design parameters on heat transfer is addressed for the pressure loss and temperature variation. Also, their constraints in designing the cooling passage are recommended. Finally, in a heated rectangular duct, the effects of secondary flow on heat transfer are scrutinized by the nonlinear k- e -fu of Park et at.〔2〕.
The cooling system for electric devices of hybrid vehicles is examined. The present system is composed of coolant paths, inlet diffuser and heat sinks whose shapes are diamond and circular. In this work, inlet duct and fin arrays are combined in proposed models and examined by numerical calculations. Nusselt number and Reynolds number are considered for heat transfer performance. Main focus lies on the looking for optimal model for the cooling system adopted to compact driving module of a hybrid vehicle. The optimal model shows uniform flow patterns in the inlet diffuser and secondary flows after the fins attached to heat source. It is found that the vortical flows around the heat sinks are effective for heat removal mechanism.
In a large 3D printer when the cooler, which cools the filament, acts in one direction, the area directly exposed to the cooling is cooled to the proper temperature. However, the cooling effect on the opposite area is relatively less. It was found in experiments that filaments with a thickness of over 2 mm exhibit the cooling problem in one directional cooling. Consequently, cooling was performed to prevent the flow-down and to produce firm support leading to an improvement in product quality in extrusion. Further, the lay-up of a 3D printer with five guides combined with a duct was achieved. Analysis showed that the improvement in the cooling effect enables stable extrusion and lay-up and thus, reduces fabrication time.
An experimental study has been conducted to investigate the heat/mass transfer characteristics within a square film cooling hole with asymmetric inlet flow conditions. The asymmetric inlet flow condition is achieved by making distances between side walls of secondary flow duct and film cooling hole different; one side wall is $2D_h$ apart from the center of film cooling hole, while the other side wall is $1.5D_h$ apart from the center of film cooling hole. The heat/mass transfer experiments for this study have been performed using a naphthalene sublimation method and the flow field has been analyzed by numerical calculation using a commercial code. Swirl flow is generated at the inlet region and the heat/mass transfer pattern with the asymmetric inlet flow condition is changed significantly from that with the symmetric condition. At the exit region, the effect of mainstream on the inside hole flow is reduced with asymmetric condition. The average heat/mass transfer coefficient is higher than that with the symmetric condition due to the swirl flow generated by the asymmetric inlet condition.
An experimental study has been conducted to investigate the heat/mass transfer characteristics within a film cooling hole of square cross-section for various blowing ratios and Reynolds numbers. The experiments have been performed using a naphthalene sublimation method and the flow field has been analyzed by numerical calculation using a commercial code. A duct flow enters into a film cooling hole in a cross-direction. For the film cooling hole with square cross-section, it is observed that the reattachment of separated flow and the vortices within the hole enhance considerably the heat/mass transfer around the hole entrance region. The heat/mass transfer on the leading edge side of hole exit region increases as the blowing ratios decrease because the main flow induces a secondary vortex. Heat/mass transfer patterns within the square film cooling hole are changed little with the various Reynolds numbers.
An experimental study has been conducted to investigate the heat/mass transfer characteristics within a square film cooling hole with asymmetric inlet now condition. The asymmetric inlet now condition is achieved by making distances between side walls of the secondary now duct and the film cooling hole different; one side wall is $2D_h$ apart from the center of the film cooling hole, while the other side wall is $1.5D_h$ apart from the center of the film cooling hole. The heat/mass transfer experiments for this study have been performed using a naphthalene sublimation method and the now field has been analyzed by numerical calculation using a commercial code. Swirl now is generated at the inlet region and the heat/mass transfer pattem with the asymmetric inlet now condition is changed significantly from that with the symmetric condition. In the exit region, the effect of mainstream on the inside hole now is reduced with the asymmetric condition. The average heat/mass transfer coefficient is higher than that with the symmetric condition due to the swirl now generated by the asymmetric inlet condition.
The mold transformers have been widely used in underground substations of large building and have some advantages when compared with oil-transformer. Those advantages are low fire risk, environmental compatibility, compact size and high reliability. The mold transformer is generally known to have cooling duct between low voltage and high voltage coil. To achieve better compact structure and low loss, mold transformers made by one body molding method has been developed. Nevertheless, such kinds of transformer need better cooling method because heat radiation between each winding is still of problem. The life of transformer is significantly dependent on the thermal behavior in windings. Many designers have calculated temperature distribution in transformers and hot spot point by finite element method(FEM) to analyze winding temperature rise. In this paper, the temperature distribution analysis of 100 kVA pole mold transformer for power distribution were investigated by FEM program and the thermal analysis results were compared with temperature rise test.
The mold transformers have been widely used in underground substations in large building and have some advantages in comparison to oil-transformer, that is low fire risk, excellent environmental compatibility, compact size and high reliability. In addition, the application of mold transformer for outdoor is possible due to development of epoxy resin. The mold transformer generally has cooling duct between low voltage coil and high voltage coil. A mold transformer made by one body molding method has been developed for small size and low loss, but it needs some cooling method because heat radiation between each winding is difficult. This paper presents the design and construction details of a soundproof enclosure for housing 20 KVA diesel generator-set. As the generator had to be installed close to the hospital building, it was desirable to reduce the transmission of noise by housing the generator in such an enclosure. The diesel engine being an air cooled one, it was essential to supply fresh air into the enclosure for its cooling. Forced inflow of air is provided through an inlet duct located in such a way that the incoming fresh air is thrown close to the inlet of cooling fan of the engine. The high velocity air stream, which heats up while passing over the engine head, escapes to the atmosphere through a rectangular outlet duct with enlarges inlet that receives hot air from the engine. The air ducts were designed specially and have been provided with acoustic lining for sound absorption. The masonary enclosure has been provided with double glazed fixed windows and double doors. The exhaust pipe of the engine fitted with a muffler has been taken out through the enclosure wall facing away from the hospital. Acoustic performance studies conducted in terms of attenuation provided by the enclosure at different frequencies have also been presented and discussed. The noise control measures adopted for building the sound-proof enclosure have been found to be quite effective as the noise levels inside the hospital building are now within the acceptable limits.
