  • A Data center houses a large number of server computers, storage and etc in racks. With the rapid increase of heat generation rates per rack in a data center, energy consumption rates for cooling have been increased year by year. In this study, energy conservation effects of a MOA (multi-stage outdoor air enabled) cooling system in a data center has been investigated when it is applied to 5 different locations, Korea. As results, Energy conservation effects of the MOA cooling system was achieved at about 20% to 30%. Humidifier operation time was 40 to 55 days when supply air temperature was maintained at 13, and humidity condition was kept within the allowed range even though humidifier was off. Furthermore, humidification was not needed when supply air temperature was maintained at $25^{\circ}C$. In selected 5 locations in Korea, the difference of regional climatic conditions affected no more than 5% in cooling energy consumption rates.

  • Test of liquid oxygen sub-cooling by helium injection, which is one of the method of temperature conditioning of cryogenic propellant in liquid propulsion rocket, is performed. The sub-cooling effect at different He injection flow rate with the same initial liquid oxygen mass is compared. Test results showed liquid oxygen temperature decrease of $5\sim6^{\circ}C$ under test condition. And the required time for cooling is inversely proportional to He injection flow rate.

  • Ice adhesion or cohesion leads to the decrease of the performance of ice making system, especially to dynamic type ice thermal storage system (DISS) which mainly forms ice from the flow of an aqueous solution. The ice adhesion is influenced by various parameters associated with operating or geometric condition. In this study, the influence on an adhesion of ice to the characteristic of cooling surface and to composition of an aqueous solution was fundamentally observed by using batch type cooling device,. a beaker. Three patterns of solution in each beaker were cooled with brine. Moreover, the characteristic of cooling surface on each beaker was distinguished to coating materials. Stirring power as a degree of the ice adhesion was measured. The stirring power to cooling heat transfer rate in each beaker was compared. As a result, the lowest stirring power of 8.9 W with non-adhesion of ice, was shown in the case of the aqueous solution of EG(4) + PG(1.5) + 1,6HD(1.5). in PE coating beaker.

  • In this study, a flow analysis is carried out on the wing shape of cooling fan at automobile. By designing three kinds of Canival, Teracan and basic models with CATIA program, this analysis is done on the configuration of cooling fan with the same flow condition. It can be seen that the contour of flow velocity is changed due to the model of wing and the pressure distribution of fluid is changed due to the configuration or the area of wing. In case of cooling model of Teracan among three models, there is the most air flow and it can be thought to be most effective to cool the radiator. And it is possible to be grafted onto the convergence technique at design and show the esthetic sense.

  • The circumstance is giving the blow against fishermen with the incoming-decreasing and the difficulty of crew's supply & demand and management. In addition, the depression of the external situation like the departure of WTO system and the plan of EEZ proclaim is forcing fishery into improving their fishing condition. By this international and domestic circumstance, development of the sea water cooling apparatus for fish hold storage is demanded sincerely. First of all, we Investigated load characteristics which based on development of sea water cooling system and optimum fish hold storage. The experimental results is as follows. In creasing the speed of compressor and mass blew rate of refrigerant, the temperature of NaCl solution is low. And the load characteristics experiment on fish hold storage outlet is as fellows. As time goes by, increasing the mass flow rate of NaCl solution, temperature difference between inlet and outlet is small in a model of fish hold storage. These results provide many useful informations applicable to an actual design of sea water cooling system and optimum fish hold storage.

  • An automotive cooling system is designed sufficiently large enough to endure the excessive heat load. In general driving condition, the cooling systems are too large to operate optimally. An experimental study was performed to evaluate a novel automotive cooling strategy using the latent heat of a phase change material (PCM). The strategy is expected to reduce the cooling system size up to around 35% and the engine warm-up time around 60%. The strategy will help improve fuel economy and emissions characteristics of vehicles as a result of reduced total body weight and shortened engine warm-up time by a smaller radiator, as well as more stable combustion mode due to constantly maintained coolant temperature.

  • Elastic-viscoplastic structural analysis is performed for regenerative cooling chamber of liquid rocket thrust chamber using Bodner-Partom visco-plastic model. Strain rate test was also conducted for a copper alloy at various temperatures in order to get material constants of visco-plastic model used in the structural analysis. Material constants of visco-plastic model were obtained from strain rate test results and visco-plsstic model was incorporated into finite element program, Marc, by means of user subroutine. The structural analysis results indicate that the deformation of cooling channel is mostly caused by thermal loading rather than pressure loading and confirmed structural stability of the cooling channel under operating condition.

  • The variation of HAZ toughness with nitrogen content and weld cooling rate was investigated and interpreted in terms of both microstructure and the amount of free nitrogen. The presence of free nitrogen in HAZ was investigated by internal friction measurement and its amount was measured by hydrogen hot extraction analysis. Both nitrogen content and weld cooling rate influenced HAZ microstructure and high toughness was obtained at a mixed microstructure of acicular ferrite, feffite sideplate and polygonal ferrite. If nitrogen content is too low or cooling rate is too fast, bainitic microstructure is obtained and toughness is low. On the other hand, if nitrogen content is too high or cooling rate is too slow, coarse polygonal ferritic microstructure is obtained and toughness is deteriorated again. ill addition to the microstructural change, high nitrogen content also resulted in a large amount of free nitrogen. Therefore, nitrogen content should be kept as low as possible even if the mixed micostructure is obtained. In this experimental condition, the maximum toughness was obtained at 0.006% nitrogen content when weld cooling time ($\Delta$t$_{8}$5/)) is 60s.TEX>5/)) is 60s.

  • Observations from experiments and real fire indicate that restrained steel beams have better fire-resistant capability than isolated beams. Due to the effects of restraints, a steel beam in fire condition can undergo very large deflections and the run away damage may be avoided. However disgusting damages may occur in the beam-to-column connections, which is considered to be mainly caused by the enormous axial tensile forces in steel beams resulted from temperature decreasing after fire dies out. Over the past ten years, the behaviour of restrained steel beams subjected to fire during heating has been experimentally and theoretically investigated in detail, and some simplified analytical approaches have been proposed. While the performance of restrained steel beams during cooling has not been so deeply studied. For the safety evaluation and repair of steel structures against fire, more detailed investigation on the behaviour of restrained steel beams subjected to fire during cooling is necessary. When the temperature decreases, the elastic modulus and yield strength of steel recover, and the contraction force in restrained steel beams will be produced. In this paper, an incremental method is proposed for analyzing the behaviour of restrained steel beams subjected to cooling. In each temperature decrement, the development of deformation and internal forces of a restrained beam is divided into four steps, in order to consider the effect of the recovery of the elastic modulus and strength of steel and the contraction force generated by temperature decrease in the beam respectively. At last, the proposed approach is validated by FE method.
