  • For the problem that the face image of surveillance video cannot be accurately identified due to the low resolution, this paper proposes a low resolution face recognition solution based on convolutional neural network model. Convolutional Neural Networks (CNN) model for multi-scale input The CNN model for multi-scale input is an improvement over the existing "two-step method" in which low-resolution images are up-sampled using a simple bi-cubic interpolation method. Then, the up sampled image and the high-resolution image are mixed as a model training sample. The CNN model learns the common feature space of the high- and low-resolution images, and then measures the feature similarity through the cosine distance. Finally, the recognition result is given. The experiments on the CMU PIE and Extended Yale B datasets show that the accuracy of the model is better than other comparison methods. Compared with the CMDA_BGE algorithm with the highest recognition rate, the accuracy rate is 2.5%~9.9%.

  • CNN (Convolution neural network), which is used for image classification and speech recognition among neural networks learning based on positive data, has been continuously developed to have a high performance structure to date. There are many difficulties to utilize in an embedded system with limited resources. Therefore, we use GPU (General-Purpose Computing on Graphics Processing Units), which is used for general-purpose operation of GPU to solve the problem because we use pre-learned weights but there are still limitations. Since CNN performs simple and iterative operations, the computation speed varies greatly depending on the thread allocation and utilization method in the Single Instruction Multiple Thread (SIMT) based GPGPU. To solve this problem, there is a thread that needs to be relaxed when performing Convolution and Pooling operations with threads. The remaining threads have increased the operation speed by using the method used in the following feature maps and kernel calculations.

  • Crop diseases affect crop production, more than 30 billion USD globally. We proposed a classification study of crop species and diseases using deep learning algorithms for corn, cucumber, pepper, and strawberry. Our study has three steps of species classification, disease detection, and disease classification, which is noteworthy for using captured images without additional processes. We designed deep learning approach of deep learning convolutional neural networks based on Mask R-CNN model to classify crop species. Inception and Resnet models were presented for disease detection and classification sequentially. For classification, we trained Mask R-CNN network and achieved loss value of 0.72 for crop species classification and segmentation. For disease detection, InceptionV3 and ResNet101-V2 models were trained for nodes of crop species on 1,500 images of normal and diseased labels, resulting in the accuracies of 0.984, 0.969, 0.956, and 0.962 for corn, cucumber, pepper, and strawberry by InceptionV3 model with higher accuracy and AUC. For disease classification, InceptionV3 and ResNet 101-V2 models were trained for nodes of crop species on 1,500 images of diseased label, resulting in the accuracies of 0.995 and 0.992 for corn and cucumber by ResNet101 with higher accuracy and AUC whereas 0.940 and 0.988 for pepper and strawberry by Inception.

  • In this paper, we proposed a method for effective classification of eye, nose, and mouth of human face. Most recent image classification uses Convolutional Neural Network(CNN). However, the features extracted by CNN are not sufficient and the classification effect is not too high. We proposed a new algorithm to improve the classification effect. The proposed method can be roughly divided into three parts. First, the Haar feature extraction algorithm is used to construct the eye, nose, and mouth dataset of face. The second, the model extracts CNN features of image using AlexNet. Finally, Haar-CNN features are extracted by performing convolution after Haar feature extraction. After that, CNN features and Haar-CNN features are fused and classify images using softmax. Recognition rate using mixed features could be increased about 4% than CNN feature. Experiments have demonstrated the performance of the proposed algorithm.

  • A typical algorithm used for image analysis is the Convolutional Neural Network(CNN). R-CNN, Fast R-CNN, Faster R-CNN, etc. have been studied to improve the performance of the CNN, but they essentially require large amounts of data and high algorithmic complexity., making them inappropriate for small and medium-sized services. Therefore, in this paper, the image label prediction algorithm based on CNN with collaborative layer with low complexity, high accuracy, and small amount of data was proposed. The proposed algorithm was designed to replace the part of the neural network that is performed to predict the final label in the existing deep learning algorithm by implementing collaborative filtering as a layer. It is expected that the proposed algorithm can contribute greatly to small and medium-sized content services that is unsuitable to apply the existing deep learning algorithm with high complexity and high server cost.

  • In this paper, we propose a method to detect concept drift by applying Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) in a data stream environment. Since the conventional method compares only the final output value of the CNN and detects it as a concept drift if there is a difference, there is a problem in that the actual input value of the data stream reacts sensitively even if there is no significant difference and is incorrectly detected as a concept drift. Therefore, in this paper, in order to reduce such errors, not only the output value of CNN but also the probability vector are used. First, the data entered into the data stream is patterned to learn from the neural network model, and the difference between the output value and probability vector of the current data and the historical data of these learned neural network models is compared to detect the concept drift. The proposed method confirmed that only CNN output values could be used to reduce detection errors compared to how concept drift were detected.

  • Recently, transfer learning techniques with a base convolutional neural network (CNN) model have widely gained acceptance in early detection and classification of crop diseases to increase agricultural productivity with reducing disease spread. The transfer learning techniques based classifiers generally achieve over 90% of classification accuracy for crop diseases using dataset of crop leaf images (e.g., PlantVillage dataset), but they have ability to classify only the pre-trained diseases. This paper provides with an evaluation scheme on selecting an effective base CNN model for crop disease transfer learning with regard to the accuracy of trained target crops as well as of untrained target crops. First, we present transfer learning models called CDC (crop disease classification) architecture including widely used base (pre-trained) CNN models. We evaluate each performance of seven base CNN models for four untrained crops. The results of performance evaluation show that the DenseNet201 is one of the best base CNN models.

  • Maglev rail joints are vital components serving as connections between the adjacent F-type rail sections in maglev guideway. Damage to maglev rail joints such as bolt looseness may result in rough suspension gap fluctuation, failure of suspension control, and even sudden clash between the electromagnets and F-type rail. The condition monitoring of maglev rail joints is therefore highly desirable to maintain safe operation of maglev. In this connection, an online damage detection approach based on three-dimensional (3D) convolutional neural network (CNN) and time-frequency characterization is developed for simultaneous detection of multiple damage of maglev rail joints in this paper. The training and testing data used for condition evaluation of maglev rail joints consist of two months of acceleration recordings, which were acquired in-situ from different rail joints by an integrated online monitoring system during a maglev train running on a test line. Short-time Fourier transform (STFT) method is applied to transform the raw monitoring data into time-frequency spectrograms (TFS). Three CNN architectures, i.e., small-sized CNN (S-CNN), middle-sized CNN (M-CNN), and large-sized CNN (L-CNN), are configured for trial calculation and the M-CNN model with excellent prediction accuracy and high computational efficiency is finally optioned for multiple damage detection of maglev rail joints. Results show that the rail joints in three different conditions (bolt-looseness-caused rail step, misalignment-caused lateral dislocation, and normal condition) are successfully identified by the proposed approach, even when using data collected from rail joints from which no data were used in the CNN training. The capability of the proposed method is further examined by using the data collected after the loosed bolts have been replaced. In addition, by comparison with the results of CNN using frequency spectrum and traditional neural network using TFS, the proposed TFS-CNN framework is proven more accurate and robust for multiple damage detection of maglev rail joints.

  • Machine-learning techniques have been actively employed to information security in recent years. Traditional rule-based security solutions are vulnerable to advanced attacks due to unpredictable behaviors and unknown vulnerabilities. By employing ML techniques, we are able to develop intrusion detection systems (IDS) based on anomaly detection instead of misuse detection. Moreover, threshold issues in anomaly detection can also be resolved through machine-learning. There are very few datasets for network intrusion detection compared to datasets for malicious code. KDD CUP 99 (KDD) is the most widely used dataset for the evaluation of IDS. Numerous studies on ML-based IDS have been using KDD or the upgraded versions of KDD. In this work, we develop an IDS model using CSE-CIC-IDS 2018, a dataset containing the most up-to-date common network attacks. We employ deep-learning techniques and develop a convolutional neural network (CNN) model for CSE-CIC-IDS 2018. We then evaluate its performance comparing with a recurrent neural network (RNN) model. Our experimental results show that the performance of our CNN model is higher than that of the RNN model when applied to CSE-CIC-IDS 2018 dataset. Furthermore, we suggest a way of improving the performance of our model.

  • An artificial neural network design that traces the pupil for the disables suffering from Lou Gehrig disease is introduced. It grasps the position of the pupil required for the communication system. Tensorflow is used for generating and learning the neural network, and the pupil position is determined through the learned neural network. Convolution neural network(CNN) which consists of 2 stages of convolution layer and 2 layers of complete connection layer is implemented for the system.
