  • In this paper, a new SEPIC-Flyback converter with a single transformer has been proposed, which is suitable for a fuel cell based power generation system. The proposed converter is superposition of sepic and flyback converter mode. It has outstanding high boosting output voltage, component utilization and high efficiency characteristics under the inherently severe low output voltage of the fuel cell generator. The proposed converter for a full cell generator is described and verified by simulation and experimental result that make used of the Polymer Electrolyte Membrane Fuel Cell(PEMFC) Generator.

  • This paper presents a Zero-Current Switching(ZCS) two-transformer phase-shift full-bridge(TTFB) converter using voltage ripple. The proposed converter provides Zero-Voltage Switching(2VS) of leading leg switches and ZCS of lagging leg switches using volt-age ripple. Especially, circulating current Is reduced by ZCS operation and there are no additional components required for the soft switching of power switches. Furthermore, in case of light load, ZVS operation of lagging leg can be achieved. The operations, analysis and design consideration of proposed converter are presented. To verify the validity of the proposed converter, experimental results for a flow (205V, 2A) prototype are presented.

  • In this paper, a 24-pulse AC-DC converter is designed, modeled, simulated, and developed to feed non-isolated varying loads. The proposed AC-DC converter configuration consists of an auto-transformer based on zigzag connection to overcome current harmonic problems in AC mains. It improves power quality at AC mains and it meets IEEE-519 standard requirements at varying loads. A set of power quality indices on input AC mains and on DC buses for a load fed from 6-pulse and 12-pulse AC-DC converters is also given to compare their performance. It is observed that input current total harmonic distortion(THD) of less than 8% is possible with the proposed topology of AC-DC converter at varying loads.

  • A new asymmetrical pulse width modulation (PWM) half bridge converter with improved ZVS performance is proposed. The ZVS operation of the proposed converter can be maintained from no load to full load conditions since the magnetizing current of the transformer contributes to the ZVS operation at light loads without considerable conduction loss of the transformer and switch. Synchronous rectification is employed to reduce the rectification loss. Operational principles, large signal modeling, ZVS analysis and design equations are presented. Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed converter can achieve a large ZVS range and significant improvement in efficiency for a 100W (5V, 20A) prototype converter.

  • In this paper, a design technique of SMPS using plannar transformer is described. The application of plannar transformer can solve the space problem which occurs when it is installed on PCB since plannar transformer has low profile. In addition a lossless snubber circuit added to reduce the device stress and to improve the system efficiency. The designed system is verifed by simulation and experiment with comparison of efficiency between the system using conventional transformer and the system using plannar transformer.

  • This paper presents current unbalance improved half-bridge LLC resonant converter using the two transformers with different leakage inductances. The proposed converter resonates with the leakage inductance and magnetizing inductance of the transformer and the resonant capacitance. The converter operates in a wide load range and satisfies the zero voltage switching even under the light load. The series-parallel connected two transformers act as the transformers or the resonant inductances according to the operational modes, and the separate output filter inductance in the transformer secondary is not needed using the leakage inductance. The current unbalance of the secondary diode rectifier is improved using the different leakage inductances of the two transformers and the asymmetrical pulse-width modulation (PWM). In this paper, the operational principle of the converter is explained by the modes, and the design example for the prototype is also shown. To validate the performance of the converter, the prototype is implemented as the designed circuit parameters and the good performance of the proposed converter is shown through the experimental results

  • R&D trend for Auxiliary Power Supply(APU) of electric vehicle can be well understood by analyzing patents at home and abroad. Based on this trend analysis, domestic technology development direction is proposed. To get technique trend, patents of Korea, Japan, Europe and America published until February of 2014 are analyzed by WIPS DB. First, power converter and transformer two big category are classified. Power converter can be classified into resonant DC to DC converter and resonant Half bridge inverter; transformer can be classified into high frequency transformer, ferrite transformer and matching transformer. By analyzing R&D trend of different counties, companies and years, specific technology needed to be developed and trend of technology can be accurately grasped.

  • The conventional high frequency phase-shifted full bridge DC-DC converter has a disadavantage that a circulating current flows through transformer and switching devices during the freewheeling interval Due to this circulating current, RMS current stress, conduction losses of transformer and switching devices are increased. To alleviate this problem, this study provides a novel circulating current free type high frequency soft switching phase-shifted full bridge DC-DC converter which applies the energy recovery snubber(ERS) attached at the secondary side of transformer. The ERS adopted in this study is consisted of three fast recovery diode($Ds_1$, $Ds_2$, $Ds_3$), two resonant capacitor($Cs_1$, $Cs_2$) and a small resonant inductor [(Lr) : It can be ignored because the transformer leakage inductance(Ll) is able to use in stead of inserting the resonant inductor(Lr)]

  • For conventional interleaved two-phase forward converters with a common output inductor, the maximum duty cycle is 0.5, which limits the voltage range and increases the difficulty of the transformer's optimization. A new two-phase hybrid forward converter with series-parallel auto-regulated transformer windings is presented in this paper. With interleaved control signals for the two phases, the secondary windings of the transformers can work in series when the duty cycle is larger than 0.5, and they can work in parallel when duty cycle is lower than 0.5. Therefore, the maximum duty cycle is extended and the turns ratio of the transformer can be optimized. Duty cycle dependent auto-regulated windings result in the steady states of the converter being different in different duty cycle ranges (D>0.5 and D<0.5). Fortunately, the steady state gains of the proposed hybrid converter are identical at different duty cycle ranges, which means a stepless shift between two states. A prototype is built to verify the theoretical analysis. A conventional control loop is compatible for the whole input voltage range and load range thanks to the stepless shifting between the different duty cycle ranges.
