  • Compound specific isotope analysis of amino acids (CSIA-AAs) is being highlighted as an alternative approach for overcoming some restrictions in application of stable isotope analysis of bulk tissue (SIA) for trophic position (TP) estimation. However, this approach has rarely been applied in Korea. The present study determines TP of two Polychaeta (Nephtyidae and Glyceridae) and two fish species(Platycephalus indicus and Lophius litulon) collected from the Geum River estuary using nitrogen isotope ratio of amino acid and compared with the TP values estimated by SIA. The Polychaeta species, sampled in two sites, showed similar TP between SIA(2.7 and 3.1) and CSIA-AAs (2.6 and 3.1). However, for both fish species, TP values displayed a large difference between SIA (3.1 and 2.3) and CSIA-AAs (3.8 and 3.7). In this study TP values estimated by CSIA-AAs showed more similar to the previously reported gut content analysis of both fishes compared with the results of SIA. Current study suggests the applicability of nitrogen isotope ratio of amino acid to understand coastal ecosystem structure and trophic ecology.

  • This study investigates convergent influence on job seeking stress and its association with self esteem, hopelessness, depression, locus of control and type A behavior pattern among some college women. The survey was administered to 531 college women in Jeonbuk area from March 28th to April 29th, 2016. The structured self-administered questionaries were used. The results of hierarchical multiple regression analysis show the following. The job seeking stress of respondents turned out to be significantly higher in following groups: a group in which self esteem is lower and groups in which hopelessness, depression, external locus of control and type A behavior pattern are higher. Their explanatory power was 43.2%. With the analysis of covariance structure, we could confirm relationship among the four factors such as self esteem, hopelessness, depression, locus of control, type A behavior pattern and job seeking stress. The results of the study indicate that the efforts, to increase self esteem, and to decrease hopelessness, depression, locus of control and type A behavior pattern, are required to reduce the job seeking stress of the college women. The results are expected to be useful for the development of program and policy to decrease the job seeking stress of the college women. In the following study, the analysis about additional factors of influence on job seeking stress will be needed.

  • Recently, we aim to improve the quality of virtual reality contents based on quantitative analysis results of emotions through combination of emotional recognition field and virtual reality field. Emotions are analyzed based on the participant's vital signs. Much research has been done in terms of signal analysis, but the methodology for quantifying emotions has not been fully discussed. In this paper, we propose a normalization function design and expression method to quantify the emotion between various bio - signals. Use the Brute force algorithm to find the optimal parameters of the normalization function and improve the confidence score of the parameters found using the true and false scores defined in this paper. As a result, it is possible to automate the parameter determination of the bio-signal normalization function depending on the experience, and the emotion can be analyzed quantitatively based on this.

  • Purpose: This study aimed to develop a scale to measure distress in patients with ischemic stroke and verify its validity and reliability. Methods: Preliminary items were developed from literature review and in-depth interviews. The final preliminary scale was confirmed through a content validity test of eight experts and a preliminary survey of 10 stroke patients. The participants for psychometric testing were 305 stroke patients in the outpatient clinic. Validity and reliability analyses included item analysis, exploratory and confirmatory factor analysis, convergent validity, known-group validity, and internal consistency of the scale. Results: The final scale consisted of 17 items and 3 factors. The three distinct factors were 'self-deprecation, worry about future health, and withdrawal from society' and this structure was validated using a confirmatory factor analysis. Convergent validity was supported by comparison with the Center for Epidemiologic Studies Depression Scale (r = .54, p < .001) and Brief Illness Perception Questionnaire (r = .67, p < .001). Known-groups validity was verified by dividing groups according to 'duration since diagnosis' (t = 2.65, p = .009), 'presence of sequela' (t = 10.16, p < .001), and 'awareness of distress' (t = 12.09, p < .001). The internal consistency of the scale using Cronbach's α for the total items was .93. Conclusion: The Ischemic Stroke Distress Scale is a valid and reliable tool that reflects stroke distress effectively. It is expected to be used as a basic tool to develop various intervention strategies to reduce distress in ischemic stroke patients.
