  • Traditionally, Geographical Information System can only process static spatial data, which include geometries and attributes. Recently, According to Special attention is paid to ubiquitous computing environment, we require a u-GIS convergence middleware to efficiently process ubiquitous data and improves the existing GIS engine in order to enable converged processing of spatial and sensor data. So, in this study, we propose a design of u-GIS Convergence Middleware, which are based on the integration between GIS and USN technologies

  • By introducing corrosion monitoring techniques, steel corrosion in concrete may be evaluated at early stage. The monitoring probes in concrete detect the causes (chlorides and $CO_2$) of steel corrosion by being cast into the concrete or diffusing in from the outside. Various systems for corrosion monitoring in concrete are reviewed in this paper. These techniques are classified according to monitoring purposes such as corrosion potential or corrosion rate of steel and causes for corrosion etc.. Today, special interests are converged in development of corrosion sensor as a monitoring method of new concept.

  • This paper deals with the added resistance of a ship in waves using computational fluid dynamics (CFD). The ship added resistance is one of the key considerations in the design of energy-efficient ship. In this study, the added resistance of a LNG carrier in head waves is computed using a CFD code to consider the nonlinearity and the viscous effects. The unsteady Reynolds Averaged Navier-Stokes equation (RANS) is numerically solved and the volume of fluid (VOF) approach is used to simulate the free surface flows. The length of incident wave varies from half the ship length to twice the ship length. To investigate the nonlinearity effect, both the linear wave condition and the nonlinear wave condition are considered. The heave and pitch motions are calculated along with the added resistance, and the wave contours are obtained. Grid convergence test is conducted thoroughly to achieve the converged motion and resistance values. The calculated results are compared and validated with experimental data.

  • In this paper, the design and the implementation of a robust adaptive controller for trajectory tracking of robot manipulator is presented. The proposed control scheme ensures that tracking errors are converged to some boundaries in the presence of a state-dependent input disturbances as well as the ideal case without any prior knowledge of the robot manipulator parameters. The 3 DOF robot manipulator including actuator dynamics is used for the implementation of the proposed control scheme. The experimental results show that the proposed control scheme is valid for trajectory tracking of the robot manipulator.

  • In this paper, an adaptive IIR (infinite impulse response) notch filter of lattice type is constructed and its adaptation algorithm is proposed for the detection and retrieval of a sine wave signal embedded in noise. A modified method which adapts only one coefficient of the filter is also suggested. All these methods adapt the coefficients while keepting the poles of the filter inside the unit circle on z-plane, and thus they satisfy the condition on the stability of the IIR filter after it has converged. To investigate the convergence characteristics of these methods such as convergence speed and output S/N ratio, intensive computer simulation has been performed by varying the frequency of the sine wave and the input S/N ratio. And the results of the simulation have been compared to those of Rao and Kung's which shows relatively fast convergence speed. The methods proposed here, especially the second one. shows faster convergence speed and higher output S/N ratio than the Rao and Kung's.

  • The purpose of this study is to develop a method for predicting the aerodynamic performance of the subsonic airfoils in the 2-dimensional, steady and viscous flow. For this study, the airfoil geometry is specified by adopting the longest chord line system and by considering local surface curvature. In case of the inviscid-incompressible flow, the analysis is accomplished by the linearly varying strength vortex panel method and the Karman-Tsien correction law is applied for the inviscid-compressible flow analysis. The Goradia's integral method and the Truckenbrodt integral method are adopted for the boundary layer analysis of the laminar flow and the turbulent flow respectively. Viscous and inviscid solutions are converged by the Lockheed iterative calculating method using the equivalent airfoil geometry. And the analysis of the seperated flow is performed using the Dvorak and Maskew's method as the basic method. The wake effect is also considered and its geometry expressed by the formula of Summey & Smith when no seperation occurs. A computational efficiency is verified by the comparison of the computational results with experimental data and by the shorter execution time.

  • It is difficult to converge power flow for the power system planning data. The main cause of power flow diverse is reactive power imbalance. A active power could be adjust by ELD or merit order but a reactive power couldn't dispatch before power flow analysis. The lack of reactive power of power system is cause a inadequate voltage drop This paper suggest new reactive power dispatch algorithm using switched shunt admittance. This algorithm uses reactive power sensitivity called switch shunt jacobian. When proposed algorithm applies to real system data that couldn't be conversed in PSS/E the power flow analysis is converged.

  • Recently construction of new transmission line is getting harder because of social hostility to transmission tower. Howevere, load is converged in metropolitan area and power plants near this area are old and life of generator will end soon. Therefore, power to supply load in this area should be transmitted from east coast area and southern area. For these reasons, securement of transmission capacity without new transmission line construction is important. In this paper, effect of one circuit AC line change to DC transmission at the same transmission tower on the system available transfer capacity is analyzed.

  • The Conjugate Finite-Step Length" (CFSL) algorithm is proposed to improve the efficiency and robustness of first order reliability method (FORM) for reliability analysis of highly nonlinear problems. The conjugate FORM-based CFSL is formulated using the adaptive conjugate search direction based on the finite-step size with simple adjusting condition, gradient vector of performance function and previous iterative results including the conjugate gradient vector and converged point. The efficiency and robustness of the CFSL algorithm are compared through several nonlinear mathematical and structural/mechanical examples with the HL-RF and "Finite-Step-Length" (FSL) algorithms. Numerical results illustrated that the CFSL algorithm performs better than the HL-RF for both robust and efficient results while the CFLS is as robust as the FSL for structural reliability analysis but is more efficient.

  • Natural and forced convection experiments were carried out in order to investigate the effects of channel spacing gap between protrusions and number of rows of protrusion, In natural convection the optimum channel spacing was found to be approximately 20mm regardless of the protrusion gaps. For optimum channel spacing the heat transfer coefficients were converged to an asymptotic value after the fourth row. The heat transfer coefficient for each row approaches to constant values for protrusion gaps larger than 10 mm. An experimental correlation has been suggested by using a modified Rayleigh number based on the dimensionless characteristic length(G/L). In forced convec-tion the heat transfer coefficients were not merged to an asymptote until the fifty row and increases as the channel spacing at the constant Reynolds number decreases.
