According to a progress in the quality of life and economy, recent years have seen an increase in interest in the cruise travel. However, it is important to provide them the optimum embarkation environment since there are to be many and unspecified persons staying for a long period on the cruise ship. In the architectural design field, a wide range of efforts are being recently made to meet customer's requirements by considering the rapidly changing society, environment, and economic trend. The most representative one of such efforts is the inclusive design concept. This concept means to perform design satisfying all the function, convenience, aesthetic appreciation, and utility, regardless of sex, age, ability, nationality, cultural background or any kinds of disabilities. Regarding this trend, the convenience-oriented design of a cruise ship using the inclusive design concept was performed in this study. To do this, the composition of cabins and swimming pools, and the exterior of the cruise ship were classified into several groups through literature survey. Then, in the point of view of the inclusive design concept, inconvenience matters of passengers about the cabins, swimming pools, and exterior were also extracted from literature survey. Next, basis designs for them were selected among the classified groups in order to solve such inconvenience matters. Finally, the convenience-oriented design of the Emerald Princess Cruise considering the inclusive design concept was performed by applying the basis designs. As a result, we can see that the inclusive design concept can be applied to cruise ship design.
The purpose of this study was 1) to segment the middle-aged and elderly women's fashion market based on the clothing benefits sought by the buyer and 2) to compare the purchase criteria and fashion information sources among the segmented markets. The data were collected using a self-administered questionnaire in Seoul and its surrounding suburban areas. Factor analysis, ANOVA, Duncan test, and Dunnett's T3 tests were used to conduct the data analysis from 285 out of 300 questionnaires. The middle-aged and elderly women's fashion market was segmented into four groups; value-oriented, social status/trend-oriented, uniqueness-oriented, and protection/ convenience-oriented. All four groups were significantly different in terms of purchase criteria and fashion information sources. The social status/trend-oriented group used external purchase criteria, such as country of origin or brand and obtained fashion information from personal experience, advice from the salesperson, and celebrities. The protection/convenience-oriented group sourced fashion information from newspapers, the internet, and the radio. The uniqueness-oriented group put less importance on practical use/convenience criteria. Marketing strategies for these segmented markets were discussed.
Purpose - Understanding how service convenience drives shopping performance is imperative for retailers such as department and large discount stores. Retailers have to enhance shopping productivity by reducing the costs of shopping, as convenience triggers customers' perceived shopping value, leading to customer satisfaction, and ultimately patronage behavior. Consumers, generally considering time as a scarce resource, are more sensitive to the time costs of tasks in regard to shopping trip, differently from forming perceptions of convenience in time orientation. Therefore, this study attempts to examine the moderating effects of consumers' time orientation on the relationships among service convenience of retailers and shopping performances such as shopping value and service performances. Research design, data, and methodology - The department and discount store chains were chosen as the point of analysis in this study. Data were collected from a survey of real-life consumers and all respondents were screened to ensure only those who had visited in the department and discount store chains within past six month prior to the day of data collection. Out of 600 self-reported surveys that were distributed, a total of 530 responses were returned and after excluding 20 incomplete responses, the final sample size was 510. The three hypotheses were proposed and tested in this study. The one hypothesis was on the moderating effects of time orientation for the effects of service convenience on shopping value (hedonic and utilitarian shopping value). The other two hypotheses were on the comparisons between high and low time-oriented customers with the effects in shopping value from service performance. Hierarchical moderated regression analysis was used to test the hypotheses. Results - The results suggest that the effect of service convenience on utilitarian shopping value and the positive effect of utilitarian shopping value on customer satisfaction are greater in low time orientation than high time orientation customers. Conversely, when customers are highly oriented toward time, the effects of hedonic shopping value on customer satisfaction and revisit intention are greater than for customers who are lowly oriented toward time. Conclusions - This study has two-fold significance. First, this study contributes to the consumer behavior and services marketing literature by incorporating customers' time orientation into the service convenience-shopping performance. Although the effect of service convenience on shopping performance might differ from customers' perceptions concerning shopping, there has been little investigation or comparison between customers' perception on time. This study is a first attempt to consider how the effects of service convenience on shopping value and service performance vary with differing levels of customers' time orientation. This study advances prior studies by showing that the service convenience-shopping value and service convenience-service performance relationships vary across different combinations of the customer's time orientation. The findings of this study suggest that the retailers need to enhance the experiential aspects of the stores for their high time-oriented customers. Conversely, for the low time-oriented customers, the retailers should boost the visual distinctiveness and ease of store navigation.
The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship between consumer spatial behavior and consumer characteristics based on trade area selection criteria 469 female consumers who lived in the two new towns near Seoul, Bundang and Ilsan, participated in the study by completing questionnaires. Data were analyzed by using cluster analysis, ANOVA, Duncan's multiple range test, chi-square analysis, etc. The findings of the empirical research were as follows: 1. Five groups were identified by cluster analysis based on trade area selection criteria of clothing price-oriented group, time convenience-oriented group, shopping convenience-oriented group, variety/entertainment-oriented group, and passive shopping group. 2. Each group differed in spatial behavior such as clothing shopping area, the visiting frequency, and spatial movement type. 3. Each group showed differences in fashion involvement and demographic characteristics(age, marital status, education, occupation and social status).

This paper presents a sophisticated Sequential Linear Approximation Method(SLAM) to solve nonlinear optimization problem and the performance of this method is compared with those of the Penalty Function Method(SUMT), Tangent Search Method(TSM) and Flexible Tolerance Method(FTM). To improve the convenience and flexibility in using the proposed SLAM, an user oriented design optimization language is developed and the application examples are shown for the optimization of propeller principal dimensions and the optimization of bulk carrier principal particulars.
The purpose of this study was to identify VMD structural elements of apparel stores, and related variables. The related variables are contained shopping orientation, store types, consumer satisfaction and the intention to purchase in apparel stores. The data was collected from a questionnaire conducted on 378 female adults and was analyzed by frequency analysis, factor analysis, cluster analysis, ANDVA, regression, Duncan test, and reliability analysis. The results were as follows: (1) VMD structural elements of apparel store consisted of four factors: coordination/fitness, fashionability, attractiveness, and functionality. Shopping orientation consisted of six factors: recreational, rational, fashion oriented, convenience oriented, price conscious, and brand conscious. Shopper types consisted of four groups: recreational type shopper, economic type shopper, high involved shopper, and convenience oriented shopper. (2) Significant differences were find out between those shopper types and VMD structural elements. Significant differences were find out between store types and VMD structural elements. (3) VMD structural elements(coordination/fitness, functionality, fashionability) were influenced consumer satisfaction and the intention to purchase.
3D printing is attracting attention from all industries as it enables the development of personalized product design to meet consumer needs by establishing a mutual connection system between production, management and consumers. However, there are still limitations to applying them as apparel materials, and research on the recognition of 3D printing or the preference for fashion products is needed to actually commercialize 3D printing in the fashion industry. In this study on the development of various product designs using 3D printing technology in the fashion industry, an analysis of 255 questionnaires was conducted to determine the preferences and purchase intention trends of fashion product design using 3D printing for college students. Data analysis was performed with IBM SPSS Statistics (V.24). 'Fashion sensitive pursuit', 'Individuality & brand pursuit' and 'Functional convenience' was interested in fashion accessories using 3D printing technology and customized fashion apparel products using 3D printing. 'Functional Convenience-oriented' and 'Practical Purchasing-oriented' type showed that the functionality and durability of products made using 3D printing technology were important. And 'Individuality pursuit' type indicated that design and applied materials were important when producing products using 3D printing technology.
Design for improved usability is to understand products from the user's point of view so eventually to enhance the pleasantness users by reflecting it into the design. The philosophy of user-oriented design is an essence of human-centered product planning, and its application is more important for railway vehicle design, which is closely connected with everyday life. This study focused to define basic elements of train interior design concept, which considers convenience and comfort for passengers, by extracting and interpreting ergonomic requirements, as usability factors, of train toilet design. The study on user-oriented design of trains consists of the practice of sensibility engineering for the management of customers' emotions and its harmonious use on design, and aims on the embodiment of new ergonomic design. In the center, it has analyzed the criteria and characteristics of the user-oriented design and has concluded the design direction and components to a concrete idea and proposed prototypes, which may become a good example for train interior design later on. In addition, it proposes a direction, which may become a guideline of ergonomic design, to secure competition capacity. Moreover this study is concentrated on the physical environment and human behavior of train toilet users, on the analysis of factors necessary for adequate toilet design, and on the understanding of interface between its users. What is more, it proposes a module of development process and methods of approaching the interface. The study presents a design standard, under which the concrete data of the characteristics and practicable range and the convergent demands accelerate to the module could be confirmed and criticized. The study on the usability is going to contribute to more pleasant and comfortable train environments and consequently, it's going to create new values of increased railway competitiveness by design.
While the population conducting the production-oriented leisure activity is spread, the expertly franchised types of woodworking workshop based on good organization and economic power are also undergoing rapid growth with the related industries. Such tendency needs the systemized marketing strategy for woodworking workshop industry, but most of the woodworking workshops are regarding the deal with customers as simple exchange business in the market. The factors of the relationship marketing hereupon should be constituted as basic material for the study of the relationship marketing of DIY woodworking workshop. This study was intended to select the appropriate factors for relationship marketing and to apply the related theoretical backgrounds on the basis of the preceding studies regarding the factors of relationship marketing. As the factors it was selected that service and expertise of staff under the category of the characteristics of staff, reasonable price, diversity of products and convenience of facility in woodworking workshop under the category of the customer-oriented service, and communication and favorite program under that of the relation-oriented service.
This study was intended to analyze the clothing shopping orientations and purchasing practices for men's dress shirts. It was conducted by means of convenience sampling survey with male office workers who usually wear dress shirts at work and who also live in Seoul, Geonggi, and Chungcheong area. The data collected were analyzed by frequency analysis, cross-tabulation analysis, factor analysis, t-test, and ANOVA using SPSS. The results are as follows: 1) Clothing shopping orientations were classified into six factors: brand oriented; planned; enjoying; expediency oriented; negative shopping; and low price oriented. There were partially significant differences in clothing shopping orientations according to the surveyees' age. 2) The surveyees prioritized low price and expediency in clothing shopping, but they also showed low interest in brands. 3) The criteria for purchasing were in the order of size, color, comfort, and design. There were also partially significant differences in the estimation criteria for dress shirts according to marital status and age. 4) Most respondents tended to purchase 3 or 4 pieces of dress shirts a year, paying 30,000 to 50,000 won for a piece, usually at department stores. 5) When they purchase a dress shirt, they always considers its size. In the case of married men, however, it is the laundry tag that they do care about.
