  • This study was carried out in order to analyze a repletion possibility about color change of base paper after elevated heat exposure when wooden fillers were added. Fillers may reduce production cost because its price is usually inexpensive than pulp with higher bulkiness. Wooden fillers have lower density than inorganic fillers, so they may increase bulk more than inorganic fillers. Never the less wooden fillers have disadvantage of yellow color by heat exposure, so the addition level should be carefully controlled. Brightness and whiteness changes after elevated heat exposure depending on coating weight were analyzed. With wooden fillers addition, breaking length and surface strength decreased but bulkiness increased. As the exposure time of elevated heat increased the coating paper with wooden fillers addition had higher brightness and whiteness values than those of inorganic fillers.

  • In this study, tele-robotics was researched to actualize robots in agriculture. The robot system consisted of a data collecting robot, several robots that performed their own agricultural operations, a server, client computers and networks between robots and computers. In this paper, as a first step, harvesting experiments were carried out. From the results, it was observed that the tele-robotics had feasibility to propel the robotization in agriculture. The tele-robotics has advantages not only that human workers are released from the severe working environment but also that the greenhouse can be monitored and controlled anytime and anywhere.

  • In 1999 and 2002, 130 and 258 isolates of Colletotrichum spp. causing red pepper anthracnose were obtained from infected red pepper fruits, respectively. Their responses to 4 protective and 3 ergosterol biosynthesis-inhibiting(EBI) fungicides were investigated by observing their mycelial growth on PDA incorporated with different concentrations of each fungicide. The Colletotrichum isolates obtained in 1999 showed higher $EC_{50}$ values than those isolated in 2002 against three protective fungicides such as dithianon, chlorothalonil, and propineb, whereas the response was reversed toward other protective fungicide, iminoctadine. On the other hand, the isolates of year 1999 were more resistant against three EBI fungicides such as tebuconazole, hexaconazole, and prochloraz than those of year 2002; the $EC_{50}$ values of the former were 1.2-4.4 times higher than those of the latter, The responses of the Colletotrichum isolates toward protective and EBI fungicides were fluctuated according to regions, where the infected fruits were collected. On the other hand, the resis tance of Colletotrichum isolates to protective fungicides increased during monitoring from July to September, However, their responses towards EBI fungicides were not changed.

  • For the investigation of occurrence of insect pests and their natural enemies, total number of 353 controlled agricultural farms were visited and surveyed. In the 73% of total controlled agricultural farms, 52 species insect pests were occurred. Among these pests, the western flower thrip (Frankliniella occidentalis), the two spotted spider mite (Tetranychus urticae), the greenhouse whitefly (Trialeurodes vaporariorum), the cotton aphid (Aphis gossypii) and the green peach aphid (Myzus persicae) were mainly occurred. On the other hand, small numbers of natural enemies were sustained in 40 controlled agricultural farms, which was 11% and 17% of visited farms and pest occurred farms, respectively. For the most part of collected natural enemies, there were included in Braconid, Coccinellid and Anthocorid, as 63, 20 and 8% of them, respectively.

  • Evaporative cooling pad system is one of the main cooling methods in greenhouses and its efficiency is very high. However, it has some disadvantages such as greenhouse temperature distributions are not uniform and installation cost is expensive. In this study, a CFD simulation model f3r predicting the air temperature distribution in the fan and fad cooling greenhouse was developed. The model was calibrated and validated against experimental data and a good fit was obtained. The influence of different outside wind, fan and pad height, ventilation rate, shading, and greenhouse length, were then examined. In order to reduce the internal temperature gradients, it is desired that the prevail wind direction and the fan and pad heights are considered. The simulation indicates that high ventilation rates and shading contribute to reduce the temperature gradients in the fan and pad cooling greenhouse. In order to maintain the desired greenhouse temperature, the pad-to-fan distance should be restricted according to the design climate conditions, shading and ventilation rates. The developed CFD model can be a useful tool to evaluate and design the fan and pad systems in the greenhouses with various configurations.

  • Conservation drones are remote-controlled devices capable of collecting information from difficult-to-access places while minimizing disturbance. Although drones are increasingly used in many research disciplines, their application to wildlife research remains to be explored in depth. This paper reports on the use of Phantom 2 Vision+ for monitoring areas in two national parks in South Korea. The first research area was conducted in Chiaksan National Park, and the second in Taeanhaean National Park. The aim of this research is to introduce ecologists and researchers alike to conservation drones and to show how these new tools have are fundamentally helping in the development of natural sciences. We also obtained photographs and videos of monitoring areas within our test site.

  • Basically corrugated board is composed of three layers of different basis weight and stock composition. Warp is well-known for one of the most important problems of corrugated board production. Warp is caused by difference of hygro-expansibility of linears between top and bottom. This research was performed to evaluate the effect of paper properties on the warp of corrugated board. To evaluate warp, dynamic expansion properties of paper was tested using DPM(dynamic penetration measuring system). The effects of sizing, stock composition and wet-pressing on dynamic expansion properties were also evaluated. Commercial base papers showed different dynamic expansion property depending on stock composition and papermaking operation. Sizing treatment decreased and wet-pressing increased the amount of dynamic expansion. To reduce warp of corrugated board, management of dynamic expansion of base papers should be controlled by manipulating moisture, heat and tension, using a variety of adjustments available on the corrugator.

  • This study was carried out to have the basic and applied informations relating to increase the productivity and quality of ginseng. 2 years-old ginseng was cultivated under hydroponic culture with the controlled environment conditions in a greenhouse. Major growth characters and yields were investigated with two different temperatures and several growth stages. The plant height and stem diameter were higher at low temperature than those at high temperature. They were not clearly different with six different growth stages. The root length was not clearly different between two temperatures; however it was continuously grown from June until August. The root diameter was higher at low temperature than that at high temperature. It was rapidly increased from June until August. The length, width, and area of leaf were higher at low temperature than those at high temperature. The fresh and dry weights of different plant tissues were also heavier at low temperature than those at high temperature. The moisture content of ginseng root was continuously decreased from June until August. The yield of ginseng was higher at low temperature compared to that at high temperature. The cultivating conditions in hydroponic culture of ginseng, especially temperature, would be an important factor to have better growth and production.
