This study was performed to investigate the chemical composition, mineral status, oxidative stability, and texture attributes of dry-cured ham from pigs fed processed sulfur (S, 1 g/kg feed), and from those fed a basal diet (CON), during the period from weaning to slaughter (174 d). Total collagen content and soluble collagen of the S group was significantly higher than that of the control group (p<0.05). The pH of the S group was significantly higher than that of the control group, whereas the S group had a lower expressible drip compared to the control group. The S group also showed the lower lightness compared to the control group (p<0.05). In regard to the mineral status, the S group had significantly lower Fe2+ and Ca2+ content than the control group (p<0.05), whereas the proteolysis index of the S group was significantly increased compared to the control group (p<0.05). The feeding of processed sulfur to pigs led to increased oxidative stability, related to lipids and pigments, in the dry-cured ham (p<0.05). Compared to the dry-cured ham from the control group, that from the S group exhibited lower springiness and gumminess; these results suggest that feeding processed sulfur to pigs can improve the quality of the texture and enhance the oxidative stability of dry-cured ham.

Background and Objectives : Dysarthria refers to speech disorder that causes difficulties in speech communication due to paralysis, muscle weakening, and incoordination of speech muscle mechanism caused by damaged central or peripheral nerve system. Pitch, strength and speed are influenced by dysarthria during detonation due to difficulties in muscle control. As evaluation items, alternate motion rate and diadochokinesis have been commonly used, and articulation is also an important evaluation items. The purpose of this study is to find acoustic characteristics on sound production of dysarthria patients. Materials and Methods : Research subjects have been selected as 20 dysarthria patients and 20 subjects for control group, and voice sample was composed of bilabial, alveolar sound, and velar sound in diadochokinetic rate, while consonant articulation test was composed of bilabial plosive, alveolar plosive, velar plosive. Analysis items were composed of 1) speaking rate, energy, articulation time of diadochokinesis, 2) voice onset time (VOT), total duration (TD), vowel duration (VD), hold of plosives. Results and Conclusions : The number of diadochokinetic rate of dysarthria was smaller than control group. Both control group and dysarthria group was highly presented in the order of /t/>/p/>/k/. Minimum energy range per cycle during diadochokinetic rate of dysarthria group was smaller than control group, and presented statistical significance in /p/, /k/, /ptk/. Maximum energy range was larger than control group, and presented statistical significance in /t/, /ptk/. Articulation time, gap, total articulation time during diadochokinetic rate of dysarthria group was longer than control group and presented statistical significance. The articulation time was presented in both control group and dysarthria group in the order of /k/>/t/>/p/, while Gap was presented in the order of /p/>/t/>/k/ for control group and /p/>/k/>/t/ for dysarthria group. VOT, TD, VD regarding plosives of dysarthria group were longer than control group. Hold showed large deviation compared to control group that had appeared due to declined larynx and articulation organ motility.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effects of preoperative pain control education on the pain control barrier, postoperative pain and pain control satisfaction in gynecological patients. Method: The study was a quasi-experimental research design. There were 58 subjects who were admitted for gynecological surgery to D University Hospital in B city. Pain control education was provided individually to the experimental group one day before their operation day for 20 minutes with the 'Pain Control Guide Book' in the patient's admission room. The education book was made by researchers based on pain management references and patient interviews. For assessing the pain control barrier, a simplified version of Barriers Questionnaire was used, postoperative pain was assessed on a numeric scale(0-10) and satisfaction of pain control was assessed by one question. Results: The pain control barrier(F=15.828, p<.001) and the post pain score of the experimental group was lower than that of the control group. In addition, pain control satisfaction of the experimental group(t=3.612, p<.001) was higher than the control group's. Conclusion: With the above results, preoperative pain control education could be an effective nursing intervention for pain control of surgical patients.
Objective: This study was carried out to investigate the effects of Hyangsayukgunja-tang extract on indomethacin-induced gastric mucosal lesions of mice. Methods: To evaluate the effects of Hyangsayukgunja-tang extract and Misoprostol, the morphology of gastric mucosa, and the distribution of mucose cells, PNA(Peanut Agglutinin), ICAM(intercellular adhesion molecule), and apoptotic cells were observed. Hyangsayukgunja-tang extract and Misoprostol were intragastric injected to the test groups at hour 72 before and just before indomethacin treatment(HYT-J, HYT-72, M-J, M-72), while the INDO group was injected only with indomethacin and the control group was subcutaneously injected only with saline. Results: The gastric mucosal lesions incresed in the fundus and body of INDO group, but softened in HYT group and M group, the effects were more excellent in the HYT-72, M-72 groups than the HYT-J, M-J groups and in the HYT group than M group. The disappearance of surface and neck mucose cells were shown in INDO group, but softened in HYT group and M group. The mucosal configuration of HYT-72 group was the same as control group. The numerical increase of PNA positive reaction in cytoplasm of perietal cells were appeared in INDO group. The PNA positive reaction in HYT group and Miso-group were shown in surface mucous cells and microvilli of apical surface in chief cells as control group, and were the same as control group in all mucosa of HYT-72 group. The distribution of ICAM positive cells, increased in INDO group, but decreased in M-72 group, and were the same as control group in HYT-72 group. The apoptotic cells, increased noticeably in gastric mucosa of INDO group, decreased in HYT group and M group, and decreased noticeably in HYT-72 group. Conclusions: Hyangsayukgunja-tang extract had excellent effects on indomethacin-induced gastric mucosal lesions.
The purpose of this study is to examine and compare the concentrations of blood retinol and $\alpha$-tocopherol in normal and diarrhea calves. The subjects of the experiments are from three groups. Each group consists of 5 calves(diarrhea, treatment and control group). The CBC, serum chemistry, serum retinol and a-tocopherol concentrations were estimated in each group. Blood retinol concentration was $13.3{\pm}7.0{\mu}g/100ml$ in diarrhea group, $31.5{\pm}6.9{\mu}g/100ml$ in treatment group and $28.1{\pm}11.8{\mu}g/100ml$ in the control group. The blood concentration in diarrhea group was significantly lower than that of the control group in the case of retinol(p<0.05). However, there were no significance between the treatment poop and the control group. The $\alpha$-tocopherol concentration in blood was $266.0{\pm}127.6{\mu}g/100ml$ in diarrhea group, $432.2{\pm}172.7{\mu}g/100ml$ in the treated group and $579.3{\pm}145.8{\mu}g/100ml$ in the control group. In the case of $\alpha$-tocopherol, the laboratory group were significantly lower than the control group(p<0.05), except for the treatment group. As in retinol concentration there were no significance between treatment group and the control group. In the test of CBC, PCV was significantly lower in the group with diarrhea than the control group(p<0.05). Fibrinogen concentrations in diarrhea calves were significantly higher than the treatment and control group. In conclusion, the blood retinol and $\alpha$-tocopherol concentration in diarrhea calves are lower than normal calves. Medication of retinol and $\alpha$-tocopherol on calves with diarrhea is recommended.
A quantitative restriction of maternal diet was given to the Sprague Dawley rats during the third week of gestation and during the lactation Dams of deficient groups were fed 20g of a stock diet a day and compared with the control group fed ad libitum throughout the experimental Period Dietary restriction started from birth in deficient 1 group and from the 14th day of gestation in deficient 2 group. Brain serotonin, norepinephrinet dopamine, and tyrosine of offsprings were determined at several intervals. Brain serotonin of offsprings of deficient groups 1 and 2 were significantly lower than the control and significant differences between the deficient greeds were noticed Brain catecholamines and tyrosine of offsprings of deficient groups were significantly lower than the control and there was no difference between the deficient groups. Maternal dietary restriction during the gestation and the lactation may have retarded the synthesis of serotonin and catecholamines in the brain.

Long-term hemodialysis(HD) patients manifest various signs of protein and caloric malutrition due to poor intake of nutrients and other causes. Poor nutritional status increases the mortality and morbidity rates in HD patients. Thus, mataintnance of adequate nutritional status has been a major task in taking care of patients receiving HD. This study was to evaluate the nutritional status of HD patients and to clarify the degree of nutritional deficit based on usual dietary intake, anthropometric and biochemical indicators. Sixty HD patients comprised a HD group, while the control group consisted of 60 healthy adults whose age and sex matched those of the HD group. Nutritional status was evaluated by dietrary intake using instant nutritional scale, anthropometric measures, serum protein concentrations and the number of lymphocytes. The data were analyzed by using Chi-square test and unpaired t-test. The results are as follows. 1. Regarding usual dietary intake of HD group. 1) Estimated caloric intake was significantly lower than the recommended daily allowance(RDA) and among them, 35% were taking calories less than 85% of the RDA. 2) Estimated protein intake was significantly higher than the RDA and among them 40% were taking protein more than 115% of the RDA. 3) Estimated fat intake was lower than the RDA. 4) Vitamin A, B, $B_1,\;B_2$, C and niacin in take was lower than the RDA respectively. 5) Estimated ferrous intake was within the normal limit the RDA while estimated calcium intake was higher than the RDA. 6) Both calorie and protein intake were higher for the 10 patients who had been under continuous ambulatory peritoneal dialysis than for the patients under HD from the beginning. 2. Regarding anthropometric measures : 1) Body mass index(BMI), midarm circumference(MAC), and triceps skinfold thickness(TSF) were lower in the HD group than in the control group. 2) Among HD group, 47.1% were within the normal limit of BMI, while 86.7% were within the same limit in the control group. 3) Among HD group, 35.0% were within the normal limit of MAC, while 83.3% were within the same limit in the control group. 4) Among HD group, only 8.3% were normal, 30.3% were mild deficit status of TSF, while 50% were normal and 48.3% were mild deficit status in the control group. 3. Regarding biochemical laboratory tests 1) Albumin, transferrin concentrations and the number of lymphocytes were lower in HD group than in the control group. 2) Among HD group, 98.3% were within the normal limit of albumin concentration and all were within the same limit in the control group. 3) Among HD group, only 11.7% were within the normal limit of transferrin concentration, while 81.7% were within the same limit in the control group. 4) Among HD group, 25% were within the normal limit, while 93.3% were within the same limit in the control group. The above findings suggest that HD patients were in nutritional deficit status. Adequate diet therapy and periodical evaluation of the nutritional status in HD patients are needed. Accordingly, it turned out that anthropometric measures were very reliable parameters and easy to use to evaluate nutritional status. So nurses are encouraged to adopt anthropometric measures to examine nutritional deficit status of HD patients.
In order to study the effects of Daebangpungtang on galactosamine induced hepatoxity in rats, the experimental rats divided five groups (Normal, Control, Sample A, B, C groups). Under the same condition, normal and control groups were administered normal saline for 16 days, control group was injected to abdomen with galactosamine at 8th day (800mg/kg). Sample A group was administered the Daebangpungtang aqueous solution($200m{\ell}/kg$ p.o) for 8 days and injected galactosamine(800mg/kg i.p) for the last day and was administered normal saline for 8 days. Sample B group was treated as same as group A for 8 days, and then was administered the Daebangpungtang aqueous solution($200m{\ell}/kg$ p.o) forfurther 8 days. Sample C group was administered the Daebangpungtang aqueous solution($200m{\ell}/kg$ p.o) for 16 days. The activity of GOT, GPT, ${\gamma}$-GTP, ALP, LDH and total bilirubin in serum were measured at 8th and last day. The results were obtained as follows: 1. The activity of serum GOT of the sample A group decreased effectively at the 8th day and sample B group decreased effectively at 16th day as compared with the control group. 2. The activity of serum GPT of the sample A group decreased effectively at the 8th and 16th day and sample B group decreased effectively at 16th day as compared with the control group. 3. The activity of serum ${\gamma}$-GTP of the sample B group decreased effectively at the 16th day as compared with the control group. 4. The activity of serum ALP of the sample A group increased respectively at the 8th and 16th day and sample B group decreased effectively at 16th day as compared with the control group. 5. The activity of serum LDH of the sample A, B groups decreased effectively at 16th day as compared with the control group. 6. The activity of serum total bilirubin of the sample A, B groups decreased effectively at 16th day as compared with the control group. 7. The activity of GOT, GPT, ${\gamma}$-GTP, ALP, LDH and total bilirubin in serum of the sample C group were analogous with thats of normal group.
Personality characteristics of TMJ dysfunction patients was studied by means of MMPI test. 100 TMJ dysfunction patients and 100 healthy controls were subjected at the Department of Oral Diagnosis and Oral Medicine, Pusan National University Hospital, during the period from March 1983 to February 1985. All the patients were divided into 2 groups namely, acute group and chronic group by duration of path and discomfort problems for 6 months or longer. The obtained results were as follows : 1. Mean value of T-scores on each clinical scale was within normal range in both patient and control group. 2. There was significant difference in scales of Hs, D. Hy, Pt, Sc and IR between patient and control group. 3. As compared with control group by sexual subclass, scales of Hs, Hy and Pt of both sex, scales of Sc and M-DI of male and scales of D of female in patient group were significantly higher than those in control group 4. The longer was duration of TMJ problems, i.e., in increasing order of control, acute and chronic group, the higher was mean value of T-scores on scales of Hs, D, Hy, Pt, Sc, IR and M-DI. 5. Mean values of T-scores on scales of Hs, D and Hy were the highest in all the clinical scales of total class and subclasses(i. e. male group, female group, acute group and chronic group) with TMJ dysfunction and showed 1-:i-2 (Hs, -Hy, -D. ) profile pattern, conversion "V.ot;V.
Personality characteristics were studied by means of SCL-90-R test, Behavioral problem and pain site was studied Isleep disturbance, irregular eating habit, decreased physical activity, decreased social activity, increased emotional tension) by examination sheets. This study was conducted to examine the mature and extent of psychological difference between the students who failed the college-entrance examination and freshment and to determine whether psychological distress acts as a precipitate for craniocervical pain. 96students who failed the college-entrance examination (examination-failed student) and 86 freshmen were included in this study. The obtained results were as follows : Mean T-score of SCL-90-R primary scaled and global Indies in examination-failed students were significantly higher than the freshmen group. In comparison with examination-failed student group, the prevalence of neck and shoulder pain was significantly higher than the freshmen group. When the study and control group were compared in behavioral problem the study group had not more sound sleep than the control group. The study group had more irregular eating habit than control group. The study group had the lower physical activity than control group. The study group had poor social activity than control group. There was no significant difference in emotional tension.
