  • A flat slab is a structural system where columns directly support it without the presence of beam elements. However, despite its wide advantages, this structural system undergoes a major deficiency where stresses are concentrated around the column perimeter, resulting in the progressive collapse of the entire structure as a result of losing the shear transfer mechanisms at the cracked interface. Predicting the punching shear capacity of RC flat slabs is a challenging problem where the factors contributing to the overall slab strength vary broadly in their significance and effect extent. This study proposed a new expression for predicting the slab's capacity in punching shear using a nonuniform concrete tensile stress distribution assumption to capture, as well as possible, the induced strain effect within a thick RC flat slab. Therefore, the overall punching shear capacity is composed of three parts: concrete, aggregate interlock, and dowel action contributions. The factor of the shear span-to-depth ratio (a_v/d) was introduced in the concrete contribution in addition to the aggregate interlock part using the maximum aggregate size. Other significant factors were considered, including the concrete type, concrete grade, size factor, and the flexural reinforcement dowel action. The efficiency of the proposed model was examined using 86 points of published experimental data from 19 studies and compared with five code standards (ACI318, EC2, MC2010, CSA A23.3, and JSCE). The obtained results revealed the efficiency and accuracy of the model prediction, where a covariance value of 4.95% was found, compared to (13.67, 14.05, 15.83, 19.67, and 20.45) % for the (ACI318, CSA A23.3, MC2010, EC2, and JSCE), respectively.

  • This study evaluates the potential of various coagulants to enhance the efficiency of total phosphorus removal facilities in a sewage treatment plant. After analyzing the existing water quality conditions of the sewage treatment plant, the coagulant of poly aluminium chloride was experimentally applied to measure its effectiveness. In this process, the use of poly aluminium chloride and polymers in various ratios was explored to identify the optimal combination of coagulants. The experimental results showed that the a coagulants combination demonstrated higher treatment efficiency compared to exclusive use of large amounts of poly aluminium chloride methods. Particularly, the appropriate combination of poly aluminium chloride and polymers played a significant role. The optimal coagulant combination derived from the experiments was applied in a micro flotation method of real sewage treatment plant to evaluate its effectiveness. This study presents a new methodology that can contribute to enhancing the efficiency of sewage treatment processes and reducing environmental pollution. This research is expected to make an important contribution to improving to phosphorus remove efficiency of similar wastewater treatment plant and reducing the ecological impact from using coagulants in the future.

  • This experimental study was intended to improve the compressive strength of multi-walled CNT reinforced cementitious composites with efficiency. The variables considered are the degree of sonication, the amount of surfactant, the replacement ratio of silica fume, etc. Optical microscope informed that fiber dispersion of CNT was improved with the increase of sonication time, and the compressive strength was proved to be enhanced as the degree of sonication increased. When superplasticizer as a surfactant had SP/CNT ratio of 4~6, the best improvement in strength was obtained. Silica fume was shown to produce the highest compressive strength at 10% replacement. Microstructure of CNT composites was also analyzed; XRD and SEM results indicated that CNT addition hardly changed hydration products and microstructure, and MIP analysis found the reduction of total porosity as well as the increase of nano-pores with the size of tens of nm instead of the decrease of pore distribution in the region of around 10 ${\mu}m$ and 100 nm. The results of microstructure analysis explains that the strength improvement is closely related to physical contribution rather than chemical influence by adding CNT.

  • In general, the response of bulk material is independent of its size when it comes to considering classical elasticity theory. Because the surface to bulk ratio of the large solids is very small, the influence of surface can be negligible. But the surface effect plays important role as the surface to bulk ratio becomes larger, that is, the contribution of the surface effect must be considered in nano-size elements such as thin film or beam structure. Molecular dynamics computation has been a conventional way to analyze these ultra-thin structures but this method is limited to simulate on the order of $10^6{\sim}10^9$ atoms for a few nanoseconds, and besides, very time consuming. Analysis of structures in submicro to micro range(thin-film, wire etc.) is difficult with classical molecular dynamics due to the restriction of computing resources and time. Therefore, in this paper, the continuum-based method is considered to simulate the overall physical and mechanical properties of the structures in nano-scale, especially, for the thin-film.

  • Objectives : Evidence regarding the association between untreated depression in adolescence and suicidal risk in male young adults is scarce. We aimed to assess the effect of untreated illness during adolescence on the suicidal risk and attempt after that first episode. Methods : As part of a cross-sectional study, between May 2017 and April 2018, a total of 260 patients with currently unipolar or bipolar depression were included in the final analysis. Multiple linear and logistic regression analysis were performed to evaluate the association between untreated mood disorder in adolescence and its effect on the suicidal risk and attempt. Results : In total 260 patients, 189 were classified as untreated group. The proportion of suicide attempts, total depression score, suicidal risk and number of suicide attempts were significantly higher in the untreated group. The most predictive factors of suicide attempts were history of untreated depression [Adjusted Odds Ratio (AOR)=4.19, 95% Confidence Interval (CI)=2.25-7.81, p<0.001] and diagnosis of bipolar depression (AOR=2.60, 95% CI=1.52-4.46, p<0.001). Conclusions : Although the untreated depression suggests higher rates of suicidality, a significant proportion (86.7%) of adolescent depression in this study did not receive psychiatric treatment. Future research should be needed to find better ways to decrease barriers in using mental health treatment and its contribution to reduction and prevention of adverse outcome.

  • Paddy soil samples were collected from the plow layers of 19 soil series distributed in Yeongnam district to determine the relationship between soil urease activity and other soil characteristics. The results obtained were summarized as follows: 1. Simple correlation analyses showed that the urease activity was positively related with available $P_2O_5(r=.844^{**})$, potassium activity ratio($r=0.762^{**}$), available $SiO_2(r=.580^{**})$ and $SiO_2$/O.M ratio($r=0.591^{**}$). 2. Among soil chemical properties which had positive linear correlations with soil urease activity, the content of available $P_2O_5$ in soil had the highest contribution to the multiple regression equation of soil urease activity. 3. The activity of soil urease was especially lower in sandy texture than in clayey paddy soils, and a tendency was observed that the heavier soil textures the higher activity of soil urease. 4. Relatively well drained soils had the higher activity of soil urease while the soils in "poorly drained" had remarkably lower activity of soil urease. 5. The soils in higher classes of paddy soil equitability group had higher activities of soil urease.

  • This study is to investigate the needs for the cool motorcycle helmet and the factors affecting the purchasing intention of cool helmet. The convenient sampling from motorcycle clubs were conducted during 5/20/2014~5/28/2014 on Google DAX. As a result, 197 participants were surveyed. The main reasons of sensing unpleasant feeling wearing helmet were identified as 'hot and uncomfortable feeling' and 'it ruins hair style'. The mean score expressed in terms of five point scale showed that the needs for cool helmet was 3.9 and the purchasing intention of cool helmet was 3.6, respectively. The significant factors influencing the purchasing intention of cool helmet were identified as 'the needs for cool helmet' (odds ratio=6.52) and 'extra paying intention for cool helmet' (odds ratio=1.77). The main reasons of sensing unpleasant feeling wearing helmet were similar to the previous research. However, we can expect that the initial target market for cool helmet would be the low end (less than \40,000 of extra paying intention) or the high end (more than \100,000 of extra paying intention). The main contribution of this study is dealing with the topics related to the purchasing intention of the cool helmet.

  • There are many traffic problems in a city such as parking, traffic jam caused by traffic induction facility. Therefore it is essential to demand for traffic demand management to building's owner whose building location causes traffic induction. According to the 90s traffic policy, government collects fee for traffic induction facility through traffic policy management and they encourage the building owner to join reduction of traffic jam program by reduction of traffic induction fee. However there are not many buildings owner joined this program because the program is not ghat beneficial. For example, if government set out parking guidance system (part of parking demanding system) in a city, it will reduce to 20% of traffic induced contributions but t can be used only once a year, so it is not efficient to used even it is valuable for about 10 years. In particular, according to the economic efficiency analysis, evaluate economically as net present value (NPV) to 2,160.44 million won, ratio of benefit/cost (B / C) to 2.44 during 10 years. Therefore this research will find out what is necessary for parking guidance system.

  • In this study, discrete mathematical items were classified into analytical items and mathematical items were analyzed on the basis of analytic framework items of mathematics and the past items of mathematics subject contents of the period 2011-2017 school year. First, the discrete mathematics evaluation areas and evaluation contents proposed by the Korea Institute for Curriculum and Evaluation should be evenly distributed. Second, the items of measuring metacognitive knowledge as a strategic knowledge on the use of cognitive methods should be given. Third, the ratio of the number of items in discrete mathematics to the number of that was 3.8%~6.8%, and the ratio according to the item weighting was 2.2%~6.3%. Fourth, it is analyzed that all the items are suitable for the evaluation goal and the pre-service math teachers who have faithfully implemented the curriculum have maintained the appropriate level of difficulty to solve. Finally, the content items such as the method of counting the discrete mathematics curriculum, the Recurrence Relation, the generation function, and the graph are matched with the teacher certification examination and the mathematics education curriculum of each teachers college. By these reasons, we conclude that the contribution of pre-service teachers to the motivation of learning is obtained and implications.

  • It was studied to utilize wasted food as a starting material to produce for activated carbon. The wasted food was chemically activated with zinc chloride. Experiments were carried out at different chemical ratios(activating agent/wasted foods), activation temperatures, and activation time. The activated products were characterized by measuring the iodine and methylene blue number, the BET surface area, the pore volume, the micropore ratio, the pore diameter, the yields and the scanning electron microscope(SEM). For the products activated by impregnation ratio of 1.0 of ZnCl$_2$ at 500$^{\circ}C$ for 60 min in a rotary kiln reactor had iodine number of 480 mg/g, methylene blue number of 95 mL/g, BET surface area of 410 m$^2$/g, pore volume of 0.248 cm$^3$/g, and average pore diameter of 2.43 nm, respectively. The activated carbon obtained had the contribution of micropore area of 70.7% to the total pore area and micropore volume of 53.2% to the total pore volume.
