  • The continuously variable transmission (CVT) mechanism considered here is the output coupled type which combines the functions of a 2K-H I type differential gear unit and a V-belt type continuously variable unit (CVU). One shaft of the CVU is connected directly to the output shaft and another shaft of it is linked to the differential gear unit. It is shown that some fundamental relations (speed ratios, power flows and efficiencies) for twelve mechanisms previously described are valid by various experimental studies, six of them produce a power circulation and the others produce a power split. Parametric analysis is carried out in relation to the efficiency, speed ratio and power ratios in order to assist in the design of an optimum configuration. Some useful properties associated with power flow modes also are discussed in the output coupled type continuously variable transmission.

  • Continuously variable transmission (CVT) mechanisms considered here is a V-belt drive with two variable-diameter pulleys and effective diameters. One pulley was set by a mechanical link while the other was spring-loaded to provide automatic correspondence. The center distance between the two variable-diameter pulleys was fixed. Experimental studies were executed to analyze efficiencies as change of its speed ratio.

  • A planetary gear assembly is a key component to combine and/or split a power from the source. With a planetary gear assembly, a continuously variable unit extends its capacity by means of power bra nching mechanism. Power branching with one planetary gear assembly and one continuously variable unit is categorized into 12 basic types. Each type represents peculiar power transmitting characteristics. Additionally, a multi-mode (range) continuously variable transmission can be designed with accompanying clutches. A multi-mode continuously variable transmission changes the path through which the source power is transmitted. Each path has its own features, such as high efficiency. In this paper, some design principles are examined such as, criteria to guarantee the minimum power efficiency, and constraints to guarantee the smooth mode shift after discussing well-known features of multi-mode M mathematically.

  • Continuously variable transmission(CVT) combined differential gear unit has many advantages, which are the decrease of CVT size, the increase of overall efficiency, the extension of speed ratio range, and the generation of geared neutral. It is known that such CVT can be classified into the input coupled type and the output coupled type according to the coupling location of continuously variable unit(CVU). In this paper, six different configurations of input coupled type CVT combined V-belt CVU and 2K-H I type differential gear unit are proposed. Some useful theoretical formula related to speed ratio, power flow and efficiency are derived and analyzed. The propriety of derived formula and theoretical analysis are proven by various experiments.

  • As combining the functions of a 2K-H B type differential gear unit and a V-belt type continuously variable unit(CVU), 16 different mechanisms are presented. Some useful theoretical formula related to speed ratio, power flow and efficiency are derived and analyzed. Continuously variable transmission(CVT) mechanisms are proposed, which can of ffr a backward mode, a geared neutral, an underdrive mode and an overdrive mode. They are not required of a starting device as a torque converter. CVT mechanisms developed here present two distinct operating modes which are a power circulation mode and a power split mode. The transition of two modes takes place at the particular CVU speed ratio. For these CVT mechanisms, performance analysis related to speed ratio, power ratio and theoretical efficiency are executed.

They are composed of a 2K-H I type differential gear unit, a V-belt type continuously variable unit(CVU), a few friction clutches and gears, and not required of a starting device as a torque converter. Compound CVT mechanisms developed here present two distinct operating modes which are a power circulation mode and a power split mode. The transition of two modes takes place at the particular CVU speed ratio. • As a method to improve the poor torque capacity on the continuously variable transmission(CVT), power splitted devices(PSD) reducing the power entering into the transmission has been considered. But this kind of PSD requires for the variator to be a large coverage of the speed ratio (CSR) Since the CSRs of the well-known push belt or the toroidal ones are not enough large, the power splitted CVTs (PSCVTs) using them should be made with multiple modes. inevitably adding the do9 clutches and the associated accessories. In this paper a PSCVT with single mode is conceptually designed A new continuously variable unit (CVU) consisting of the paired inner and outer spherical rotors is used. The CVU has large CSR and excellent compactness. As a PSD. a variable bridge (VB) using the Planetary gear units (PGUs) is considered because it has an upper bound on the power ratio. An optimal design to minimize the effective efficiency of the PSCVT is carried out. Through the performance analysis on the designed model, good expectation on the practicability in the heavy vehicle system is shown.
