This paper deals with a sliding mode controller with integral compensation in a magnetic suspension system The control scheme comprises an integral controller which is designed for achieving zero steady-steate error under step disturbance input and a sliding mode controller which is designed for enhancing robustness under plant parametric variations. A procedure is developed for determining the coefficients of the switching plane and integral control gain such that the overall closed-loop system has stable eigenvalues. A proper continuous design signal is introduced to overcome the chattering problem. The performance of a magnetically suspended balance beam using the proposed integral sliding mode controller is illustrated. Simulation and experimental results also show that the proposed method is effective under the external step disturbance and input channel parametric variations.
Sliding mode control is investigated for a discrete-time system with uncertainties. The narrowest neighborhood of the sliding surface is shown in which the state can remain. The range is determined by the upper bound of the absolute value of the uncertainty and the equation of the sliding surface. A sliding mode control algorithm is proposed to keep the state there without requiring an enormous input. Under the presence of the system parameter variations, the origin is not always stable although the sliding surface represents the stable dynamics and the state is kept in this neighborhood. The condition for the origin to be stable is investigated. Furthermore, the problems occurring when a continuous-time sliding mode control being ...
This paper presents a new control scheme that combines a sliding mode control and a neural network. In the proposed sliding mode control, a continuous control is employed removing the switching phenomena and the equivalent control within the boundary layer is estimated through on-line teaming of the neural network. The performances of the proposed control are compared with off-line neural network and on-line neural sliding mode control by computer simulation. The simulation results show that the proposed control reduces high frequency chattering and tracking error in example of the two link manipulator.
Chattering-free sliding mode control is derived from the reaching law method and Lyapunov stability theorem. Its control input Is composed of continuous term and discontinuous term. By the combination of these terms, the robustness and tracking performance can be improved and the chattering can be avoided. But in the reaching mode, the sliding mode control is sensitive to the modeling uncertainties, parameter variations and disturbances, also it needs a large control input. These result in poor transient responses. In this paper, to overcome these problems in the reaching mode, a time-varying sliding surface is proposed. And it is applied to a 2-link SCARA robot manipulator, experimental results show that the transient response is improved and its ...
In this paper, robust vibration control of a one-link flexible robot arm based on variable structure system is discussed. We derive dynamic equations of it using a Lagrangian assumed modes method based on Bernoulli-Euler Beam theory. The optimal sliding surface is designed and the problem of chattering is also solved by the adoption of a continuous control law within a small neighborhood of the switching hyperplane.
In this paper, it is proposed the adaptive-sliding mode control technique which is new approach to implement the robust control of industrial robot manipulator with external disturbances and parameter uncertainties. Over the past decade, the design of advanced control systems for industrial robotic manipulators has been a very active area of research and two major design categories have emerged. Sliding mode control is a well-known technique for robust control of uncertain nonlinear systems. The robustness of sliding model controllers can be shown in continuous time, but digital implementation may not preserve robustness properties because the sampling process limits the existence of a true sliding mode. Adaptive control algorithm is designed by using the principle of the model reference adaptive control method based upon the hyperstability theory. The proposed control scheme has a simple structure is computationally fast and does not require knowledge of the complex dynamic model or the parameter values of the manipulator or the payload. Simulation results how that the proposed method not only improves the performance of the system but also reduces the chattering problem of sliding mode control. Consequently, it is expected that the new adaptive sliding mode control algorithm will be suited for various practical applications of industrial robot control system.
A new chattering free sliding made control is proposed for robot manipulators. The control input is derived from the reaching law and the Lyapunov stability criteria, which is only composed of continuous terms. It has a chattering free characteristics and a concise farm. In implementing procedures, no change of equations is needed. Thus, it does not degrade the original merits of the sliding mode control. And it is applied to a 2-link SCARA robot manipulator. It is shown that the proposed control has good trajectory tracking performance compared with the PD control and the conventional sliding mode control which uses the boundary layer concept.
In Underwater Flight Vehicle depth control system, the followings must be required. First, it needs robust performance which can get over modeling error, parameter variation and disturbance. Second, it needs accurate performance which have small overshoot phenomenon and steady state error to avoid colliding with ground surface or obstacles. Third, it needs continuous control input to reduce the acoustic noise and propulsion energy consumption. Finally, it needs interpolation method which can sole the speed dependency problem of controller parameters. To solve these problems, we propose a depth control method using Fuzzy Sliding Mode Controller with feedforward control-plane bias term and Neural Network Interpolator. Simulation results show the proposed method has robust and accurate control performance by the continuous control input and has no speed dependency problem.
A sliding mode fuzzy control (SMFC) algorithm is applied to design a controller for a benchmark problem on a wind- excited building. The structure is a 76-story concrete office tower with a height of 306 meters, hence the wind resistance characteristics are very important for the serviceability as well as the safety. A control system with an active tuned mass damper is assumed to be installed on the top floor. Since the structural acceleration is measured only at ,limited number of locations without measurement of the wind force, the structure of the conventional continuous sliding mode control may have the feed-back loop only. So, an adaptive least mean squares (LMS) filter is employed in the SMFC algorithm to generate a fictitious feed-forward loop. The adaptive LMS filter is designed based on the information of the stochastic characteristics of the wind velocity along the structure. A numerical study is carried out. and the performance of the present SMFC with the ,adaptive LMS filter is investigated in comparison with those of' other control, of algorithms such as linear quadratic Gaussian control, frequency domain optimal control, quadratic stability control, continuous sliding mode control, and H/sub ∞///sub μ/, control, which were reported by other researchers. The effectiveness of the adaptive LMS filter is also examined. The results indicate that the present algorithm is very efficient .
