  • This study reports on a uniform resin coating method by using a doctor blade type dispenser. For high productivity, continuous imprint-lithography has been studied, and developed fabrication systems are used in several applications such as anti-reflection films, dry adhesives, and water collecting surfaces. In the continuous fabrication field, researchers have typically focused on patterning and demolding procedures. During the roll-to-roll fabrication process, however, the uniform resin coating process is also important in order to obtain a high quality product, which can be evaluated by uniform thickness, precise geometric expressions, and a thin residual layer. To achieve these, a doctor blade type dispenser was designed and fabricated. As a result, thickness of coated resin was well controlled by modulating the flow rate of the resin and blading gap. In addition, a very thin layer coating process (${\sim}10{\mu}m$) was achieved by softly contacting the blade on the substrate.

  • PEMS (printed electro-mechanical system) is fabricated by means of various printing technologies. Passive and active compo-nents in 2D or 3D such as conducting lines, resistors, capacitors, inductors and TFT(Thin Film Transistor), which are printed withfunctional materials, can be classified in this category. And the issue of PEMS is applied to a R2R process in the manu-facturing process. In many electro-devices, the vacuum process is used as the manufacturing process. However, the vacuum process has a problem, it is difficult to apply to a continuous process such as a R2R(roll to roll) printing process. In this paper, we propose an ESD (electro static deposition) printing process has been used to apply an organic solar cell of thin film forming. ESD is a method of liquid atomization by electrical forces, an electrostatic atomizer sprays micro-drops from the solution injected into the capillary with electrostatic force generated by electric potential of about several tens kV. ESD method is usable in the thin film coating process of organic materials and continuous process as a R2R manufacturing process. Therefore, we experiment the thin films forming of PEDOT:PSS layer and active layer which consist of the P3HT:PCBM. The organic solar cell based on a P3HT/PCBM active layer and a PEDOT:PSS electron blocking layer prepared from ESD method shows solar-to-electrical conversion efficiency of 1.42% at AM 1.5G 1sun light illumination, while 1.86% efficiency is observed when the ESD deposition of P3HT/PCBM is performed on a spin-coated PEDOT:PSS layer.

  • A Cr:YAG crystal was used as a saturable absorber for passive Q-switching of a Nd:$YVO_4$ laser which was pumped by a 1-W continuous wave laser diode. The first surface of the Cr:YAG was high-reflection coated for the pump wavelength. The high-reflection coating improved the absorption efficiency of the pump beam in the Nd:$YVO_4$ through double pass absorption. It also prevented pump beam induced partial bleaching of the Cr:YAG. The peak-to-peak pulse fluctuation of passively Q-switched laser output was approximately 4 %. The minimum pulse-width was measured to be 7.11 ns. Also, the average pulse repetition rate was 9 kHz and the maximum output power was 16.27 mW.

  • Poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene) coated Manganese Dioxide (PEDOT/$MnO_2$) composite electrode was fabricated by simply immersing the $MnO_2$ electrode in an acidic aqueous solution containing 3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene (EDOT) monomers. Analysis of open-circuit potential of the $MnO_2$ electrode in the solution indicates the reduction of outer surface of $MnO_2$ to dissolved $Mn^{2+}$ ions and simultaneously oxidation of EDOT monomer to PEDOT on the $MnO_2$ surface to form a PEDOT shell via a galvanic displacement reaction. Analysis of cyclic voltammograms and specific capacitance of the PEDOT/$MnO_2$, conductive carbon added $MnO_2$ and conductive carbon added PEDOT/$MnO_2$ electrodes suggests that the conductive carbon acted mainly to provide a continuous conducting path in the electrode to improve the rate capability and the PEDOT layer on $MnO_2$ acts to increase the active reaction site of $MnO_2$.

  • An attempt was made to investigate the effect of brazing time on microstructure, microhardness, and corrosion of Zircaloy -4as well as the beryllium diffusion into its sheet. The sheets were coated with beryllium and brazed at $1020^{\circ}C$ for 20-40 minutes in $2{\times}10^{-5}$ torr vacuum atmosphere. 1. Microstructurally the brazed zone was largely divided into three regions: a region of continuous or partially formed of eutectic liquid films along grain boundaries; a region of precipitation in both grains and grain boundaries; a region of elongated wide structure of .alpha.-laths, which was not affected by beryllium. 2. Due to the precipitates, the beryllium-migrated region was hardened and the width of the hardened region increased with increasing brazing time. 3. Beryllium brazed Zircaloy -4 sheets showed a higher corrosion rate than those of as-received and heat-treated at a brazing temperature. 4. Diffusion coefficient of beryllium into Zircaloy -4 at $1020^{\circ}C$ for 30 minutes was $7.67{\times}10^{-7}cm^2/sec.$ It seemed that Be penetrated Zircaloy -4 by forming eutectic liquid films along grain boundaries in the proximity of Be/Zr interface and it, thereafter, diffused into Zircaloy mainly by interstitial solid solution.

  • When the cells of yeast K35 were immobilized in Ca-alginate gel, cell concentration and viability decreased as alginate concentration increased. Considering the results, 2% (w/v) Ca-alginate concentration would be suitable. Among various concentrations of additives and cross-lin-king agent, the addition of 1.67% (w/v) of bentonite together with 0.33% (v/v) of glutaraldehyde (ABG bead) resulted in the highest ethanol production of 1.8%(w/v), using YPD medium containing 2% glucose. ABG bead seemed to be more resistant to phosphate ion than Ca-alginate bead. 0.33%(w/v) of phosphate was a proper concentration for the ethanol production by ABG bead. Scanning electron microscopic observation depicted that the immobilized cells on the bead surface were coated by alginate gel and that the cells in the internal bead were cross-linked with alginate matrix. When repeated-batch culture was performed with ABG bead for 40 days in a packed-bed reactor, ethanol concentration of about 90~110 g/l-gel was maintained. Cell viability was maintained around 70%, and outgrowing cell concentration was below 6.3% of total cell concentration. Consequently, the results showed that ABG head was a potential carrier for continuous production of ethanol compared to conventional Ca-alginate bead.

  • For NIR measurements of papers normally diffuse reflectance accessories are used which can provide a large sampling area. The in-line process control FT-NIR spectrometer MATRIX-E enables the contactless measurement of paper samples of low silicone coat weights on label-stocks in a paper converting factory. For this study concentrations of silicone between 0 and 2 g/$m^2$ on various paper substrates were included in a quantitative method. The aim was to achieve an absolute value for the deviation from the target value of 1 g/$m^2$ during continuous movement of the paper with velocities around 400 numinute. Influences from the uncoated paper type due to supplier, color, opacity, area densities, pre-coating as well as different compounds of the agent silicone were investigated and it was found that all these papers can be represented in one PLS-model. Especially the fact that silicone as an element is present in clay coated papers is of no consequence to the measurements with MATRIX-E. Moreover during in-line installations the variation of the moisture contents in the moving paper due to variable machine velocities as well as the reflecting material of the cylinder have to be considered. It is shown that the result of the in-line calibration has the same prediction ability compared to lab scale results(Root Mean Square Error of Cross-Validation RMSECV = 0.034 g/$m^2$).

  • Titania photocatalytic oxidation reactors were studied to investigate degradation efficiencies of hydrocarbons. In general, it is well known phenomena that thin layered titania oxidizes most of hydrocarbons to carbon dioxide and water under UV light. In this study, degradation efficiencies were measured due to changes in reactor structures, UV sources, the number of titania coatings, and various hydrocarbon chemicals. It was proven that gas degradation efficiencies are related to such factors as UV transmittance of coating substance, collision area of surface, and gas flow rate. For packing type annular reactor, about 98% degradation efficiency was achieved for achieved for propylene of 500 ppm level at a flow rate of 100 ml/min. Several gases were also tested for double-coated titania thin film under the condition of continuous flow of 100 ml/min and 365 nm UV source. It was shown that degradation efficiencies were decreasing in the order: $C_3$ $H_{6}$, n-C$_4$ $H_{10}$, $C_2$ $H_4$, $C_2$ $H_2$, $C_{6}$ $H_{6}$ and $C_2$ $H_{6}$./. 6/./.
