This study aims at providing a simple and effective methodology to define a meaningful characteristic period for special class of earthquake records named "pulse-like ground motions". In the proposed method, continuous wavelet transform is employed to extract the large pulse of ground motions. Then, Fourier amplitude spectra obtained from the original ground motion and the residual motion is simply compared. This comparison permits to define a threshold pulse-period (Tp∗) as the threshold period above which the pulse component has negligible contributions to the Fourier amplitude spectrum. The effect of pulse on frequency content of motions was discussed on the light of this definition. The advantage and superior features of the new definition were related to the inelastic displacement ratio (IDR) for single-degree-of-freedom systems with period equal to one half of the threshold period. Analyses performed for the proposed period at three ductility levels u=2,4,6 were compared with the results obtained at half of pulse period derived from wavelet analysis, peak-point method and the peak of product of the velocity and the displacement response spectra (Sv x Sd). According to the results, pulse effects on inelastic displacement ratio seem to be more important when $\frac{T_p^*}{T}=2$ (T is the fundamental vibration period of system). The results showed that utilizing of the proposed definition could facilitate an enhanced understanding of pulse-like records features.

This study proposes a finite element analysis method that can analyze the vibration of a beam by considering the inertia effect of moving masses in a vertical direction. The proposed method is effective when a precise interaction analysis is not required. The inertial effects of the moving masses are included in the equation of motion, and the interaction forces between the masses and the beam are considered only as external loads. Time domain analyses were performed using Abaqus, a general-purpose finite element analysis software, and an implementation method using multi-point constraints wais presented to link the displacements of the beam element nodes and moving rigid masses. The proposed method was verified by comparing its solution with that obtained using an existing analytical method, and the analysis results for continuous beam vibrations under dynamic gait loadings were used to examine the mass effect of pedestrians.

Various forms of wearable bio-signal monitoring systems have been developed recently. Acquisition of stable bio-signal data for health care purposes needs to be unconscious and continuous without hindrance to the users' daily activities. The garment type is a suitable form of a wearable bio-signal monitoring system; however, motion artifacts caused by body movement degrade the signal quality during the measurement of bio-signals. It is crucial to stabilize the electrode position to reduce motion artifacts generated when in motion. The problems with motion artifacts remain unresolved despite their significant effect on bio-signal monitoring. This research creates a foundation for the design of garment-type wearable systems for everyday use by finding a method to reduce motion artifacts through modular design. Two distinct garment-type wearable systems (tee-shirt with a motion artifact-reducing module (MARM) and tee-shirt without a MARM) were designed to compare the effects of modular design on the measurement of heart activity in terms of electrode position displacement, signal quality index value, and morphological quality. The tee-shirt with MARM showed superior properties and yielded higher quality signals than the tee-shirt without MARM. In addition, the tee-shirt with MARM showed a better repeatability of the heart activity signals. Therefore, a garment design with MARM is an efficient way to acquire stable bio-signals while in motion.

The lateral behavior of the moving web is critical to the quality of the web products. The alignment of the rollers carrying the web is found to be one of important factors to the lateral behavior of the moving web. But, the study on the effect of the tilting roller in the direction of the normal to the moving web on the lateral behavior has not been reported in the literature yet. For example, the contact roller often contacts the winding roll in a tilted fashion and causes the lateral motion of the winding web, which induces the offset on the wound roll. The lateral dynamics of the moving web induced by a tilted roller in normal direction of a web is investigated in this paper. The two-dimensional dynamic model developed by Shelton is extended to investigate the effect of a titled roller in a normal direction of the moving web on the lateral motion of the moving web. New boundary conditions are developed to solve the extended model. Computer simulation study proved that the model developed can be used to predict the lateral motion of the moving web ? to a tilted roller in normal direction of the moving web. The lateral deflection is increased exponentially a the tilting angle is increased. As the length of web span is increased, the amount of lateral deflection was increased almost linearly for the same tilting angle. The lateral dynamics turned out to be almost independent to the operating tension. The model developed can be used to solve the offset problem of the staggered winding and also to design a new web guiding mechanism.
Purpose: The aims of this study were to determine if game-based training with constraint-induced movement therapy (CIMT) is effective in improving the balance ability in female patients with a total knee replacement, and to provide clinical knowledge of CIMT game-based training that allows the application of total knee replacement. Methods: Thirty-six patients who had undergone a total knee replacement were assigned randomly to CIMT game training (n=12), general game training (n=12), and self-exercise (n=12) groups. All interventions were conducted 3 times a week for 4 weeks. All patients used a continuous passive motion machine 5 times a week and 2 times a day for 4 weeks. The visual analog scale (VAS), muscle strength of knee flexion and extension, and range of motion (ROM) of knee flexion and extension were assessed, and the functional reach test (FRT), and timed up and go (TUG) test were performed to evaluate the balance ability. Results: All 3 groups showed significant improvement in the VAS, knee flexion and extension muscle strength, FRT, and TUG test after the intervention (p<0.05). Post hoc analysis revealed significant differences in FRT, and TUG of the CIMT game training group compared to the other group (p<0.05). Conclusion: Although the general game training and CIMT game training improved both the knee extension muscle strength and dynamic balance ability, CIMT game training had a larger effect on dynamic balance control.

Third, the results of this study are as follows: Weight Change(Body Confidence, Activity Confidence, Dance Confidence, Psychological Stability Effect, Dance Activity Effect, Perform-motion Effect) and Exercise Immersion(Behavior immersion, Cognitive immersion) were partially high It was shown that the influence was.
This research aims to develop an empirical model for simulation of time-varying frequency in earthquake ground motion so as to be used easily in engineering applications. Briefly, 10545 recordings of the Next Generation Attenuation (NGA) global database of accelerograms from shallow crustal earthquakes are selected and binned by magnitude, distance and site condition. Then the wavelet spectrum of each acceleration record is calculated by using one-dimensional continuous wavelet transform, and the frequencies corresponding to the maximum values of the wavelet spectrum at a series of sampling time, named predominant frequencies, are extracted to analyze the variation of frequency content of seismic ground motions in time. And the time-variation of the predominant frequencies of 178 magnitude-distance-site bins for different directions are obtained by calculating the mean square root of predominant frequencies within a bin. The exponential trigonometric function is then use to fit the data, which describes the predominant frequency of ground-motion as a function of time with model parameters given in tables for different magnitude, distance, site conditions and direction. Finally, a practical frequency-dependent amplitude envelope function is developed based on the time-varying frequency derived in this paper, which has clear statistical parameters and can emphasize the effect of low-frequency components on later seismic action. The results illustrate that the time-varying predominant frequency can preferably reflect the non-stationarity of the frequency content in earthquake ground motions and that empirical models given in this paper facilitates the simulation of ground motions.
Fragility as one of the most effective methods to evaluate seismic performance, which is greatly affected by damage index. Taking a multi span continuous rigid frame offshore bridge as an example. Based on fragility and reliability theory, considering coupling effect of time-varying durability damage of materials and time-varying attenuation effect of damage index to analyze seismic performance of offshore bridges. Results show that IDA curve considering time-varying damage index is obviously below that without considering; area enclosed by IDA of 1# pier and X-axis under No.1 earthquake considering this effect is 96% of that without considering. Area enclosed by damage index of 1# pier and X-axis under serious damage with considering time-varying damage index is 90% of that without considering in service period. Time-varying damage index has a greater impact on short pier when ground motion intensity is small, while it has a great impact on high pier when the intensity is large. The area enclosed by fragility of bridge system and X-axis under complete destruction considering time-varying damage index is 165% of that without considering when reach designed service life. Therefore, time-varying attenuation effect of damage index has a great impact on seismic performance of bridge in service period.
The performance of an isolated horizontally curved continuous bridge with High Damping Rubber (HDR) Bearings has been investigated under seismic loading conditions. The effectiveness of response controls of the bridge by HDR bearings for various aspects viz. variation in ground motion characteristics, multi-directional effect, level of earthquake shaking, varying incidence angle, have been determined. Three recorded ground motions, representative of historical earthquakes along with near-field, far-field and forward directivity effects, have been considered in the study. The efficacy of the bearings with bidirectional effect considering interaction behavior of bearing and pier has also been investigated. Modeling and analysis of the bridge have been done by finite element approach. Sensitivity studies of the bridge response with respect to design parameters of the bearings for the considered ground motions have been performed. The importance of the nonlinearity of HDR bearings along with crucial design parameters has been identified. It has been observed that the HDR bearings performed well in different variations of ground motions, especially for controlling torsional moment. However, the deck displacement has been found to be increased significantly in case of Turkey ground motions, considering forward directivity effect, which needs to be paid more attention from designer point of view.

In this paper, the nonlinear behavior of ultrasonic wave in partially degraded material is considered. For this aim, FDM(finite difference method) model for the nonlinear wave equation was developed with the restriction to the 1-D longitudinal wave motion and how the partial degradation in material contributes to the detected nonlinear parameter was analyzed quantitatively. In order to verify the rightness of this simulation method, the relation between the detected nonlinear parameter and the continuous distribution of degradation obtained from simulation was compared with experiment results and the simulation and experiment results showed similar tendency. It can be known from simulation result that the degree of degradation, the range of degradation and the continuous distribution of degradation have strong correlation with the detected nonlinear parameter. As it was possible in these simulations that only special part is assumed as degraded one, the quantitative evaluation of partially degraded material may be obtained by using this method.
