Servo System Control Using Continuous Time Deadbeat Controller (연속시간 유한정정제어기를 이용한 서보시스템 제어)

  • Deadbeat property is well established in digital control system design, But in continuous time, it can hardly realized for it's asymtotic property. But recently japanese researchers suggested serveral method for continuous time deadbeat property. They use delay elements In polynomials and established for the deadbeat condition. By solving this condition, unknown coefficients in polynomials with delay elements is obtained. In this paper, design method for optimal continuous time deadbeat servo system using 2nd order smooting elementsis studied. Continuous time deadbeat controller is consisted of serial integral compensator and local feedback one in state feedback loop. Determining method for damping rations and natural frequencies of smothing elements is described. By computer simulations, control inputs and system outputs are shown to have desirable property such as smoothness.

  • This paper presents a new design method of optimal continuous deadbeat controller by using second-order smoothing elements. The continuous deadbeat controller is made of a serial integral compensator and a local feedback compensator introduced into the state feedback loop. The decision method of the damping factor and the natural angular frequency of the smoothing element is described. A numerical example is given to show how well input-output characteristics are improved. Especially according to the variable input and disturbance, corresponding CDBC design method is suggested. By computer simulations, control inputs and system outputs are shown to have desirable property such as smoothness.

  • A seat suspension system with a controlled MR(Magneto Rheological) fluid damper is introduced to improve the ride quality and prevent the health risk of a driver compared to fixed seats. The system is located between a seat cushion and the base, and is composed of a spring, MR fluid damper and controller. The MR fluid damper designed in valve mode is capable of producing a wide range of damping force according to applied currents. In experiments, a person was sitting on the controlled seat excited by a hydraulic system The skyhook control, continuous skyhook control and relative displacement control were applied and the continuous skyhook control improved the vibration suppression by 36.6%.

  • A vehicle suspension system performs two functions, the ride quality and the stability, which conflict with each other. Among the various suspension systems, an active suspension system has an external energy source, from which energy is always supplied to the system for continuous control of vehicle motion. In the process of the linearization for the nonlinear active suspension system, the frequency dependent damping method is used for the exact modelling to the real model. The pressure control valve which is controlled by proportional solenoid is the most important component in the active suspension system. The pressure control valve has the dynamic characteristics with 1st order delay. Therefore, It's necessary to adopt the lead compensator to compensate the dynamics of the pressure control valve. The sampling time is also important factor for the control performances. The sampling time value is proposed to satisfy the system performances. After the modelling and simulation for the pressure control valve and vehicle dynamic, the performances of the vehicle ride quality and the stability are enhanced.

Influence of Semi-active Suspension on Running Safety of Vehicles

  • Railway vehicles equipped with semi-active suspension system can improve the ride quality of car bodies. Semi-active suspension system is usually applied onto high speed train, and therefore higher running safety requirement is desirable. The influence of semi-active suspension system on safety of vehicles running on straight line and curve line is studied, and the influences of sky hook damping coefficient and system time-delay on operational safety of cars fitted with semiactive suspension system is analyzed. The results show that in vehicles equipped with semi-active suspension system, while the vibration of car body is decreased, the running safety of cars is not affected to any significant degree. As a result, the ride quality is much improved with negligible deterioration of the running safety of cars.

Seismic behavior of isolated bridges with additional damping under far-field and near fault ground motion

  • This paper presents a numerical investigation on the seismic behavior of isolated bridges with supplemental viscous damping. Usually very large displacements make seismic isolation an unfeasible solution due to boundary conditions, especially in case of existing bridges or high risk seismic regions. First, a suggested optimal design procedure is introduced, then seismic performance of three real bridges with different isolation systems and damping levels is investigated. Each bridge is studied in four different configurations: simply supported (SSB), isolated with 10% damping (IB), isolated with 30% damping (LRB) and isolated with optimal supplemental damping ratio (IDB). Two of the case studies are investigated under spectrum compatible far-field ground motions, while the third one is subjected to near-fault strong motions. With respect to different design strategies proposed by other authors, results of the analysis demonstrated that an isolated bridge equipped with HDLRBs and a total equivalent damping ratio of 70% represents a very effective design solution. Thanks to confirmed effective performance in terms of base shear mitigation and displacement reduction under both far field and near fault ground motions, as well as for both simply supported and continuous bridges, the suggested control system provides robustness and reliability in terms of seismic performance also resulting cost effective.

  • Continuously controlled semi-active suspension system may improve ride and handling properties. Here, as a mechanism to control the fluid flow solenoid valve mechanism is introduced and added to the basic passive damper to create damping forces of the shock absorbers. The system may produce continuously controlled damping forces in both solenoid valve only and combination with passive shock absorber including fluid flow is studied, and then the combined model is added to the full vehicle model to evaluate its ride and handling performance. Finally, the simulation results are compared to the vehicle models having similar suspension system.

  • This paper describes a Unified Chassis Control (UCC) strategy to prevent vehicle rollover by integrating individual modular chassis control systems such as Electronic Stability Control (ESC) and Continuous Damping Control (CDC). The UCC threshold is determined from a rollover index computed by estimated roll angle, roll rate and measured lateral acceleration. A direct yaw moment control method is used to design the ESC based on a 2-D bicycle model. Similarly, the CDC is designed based on a 2-D roll model using a direct roll moment control method. The performance of the proposed UCC scheme is investigated and compared to that of modular chassis controllers through computer simulations using a validated vehicle simulator. It is shown that the proposed the UCC can lead to improvements in vehicle stability and efficient actuation of chassis control systems.
